I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument.

In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.

Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

I need to engage in homicidal behaviour on a massive scale. It can not be corrected but I have no other way to fulfill my needs.

There is an idea of a Cort; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there.

God dammit, I knew I should have used that one before someone else did.

Well, in response:

You're a ****ing ugly *****. I want to stab you to death, and then play around with your blood.

Are we still talking about Phil Collins?

If we are, than I've never really been a fan of his. Genesis just seemed to commercial, and most of their songs sound exactly the same.

I kind of like that one song "And The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", and "That's All", as well as the Tarzan soundtrack, but for the most part I find most of his work extremely repetitious. Many of his songs could be a few minutes long, they don't need to be stretched out to epic lengths.

We were never talking about Phil Collins. I'm mindgamesy like that.

Also,

There is a moment of sheer panic when I realize that Cort's apartment overlooks the park... and is obviously more expensive than mine.

You know, cort, if you use up all the quotes yourself what point does anyone else have to come into this topic? Aside from the obvious, that being to post in between your posts, so that you can just post another quote.

I live in the American Gardens Building on W. 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don't know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip.

There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape, but even after admitting this there is no catharsis, my punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.

I'm not sure if you know what is going on... however, I don't want to get you drunk, but, ah, that's a very fine Chardonnay you're not drinking.

I like Phil Collins simply because of the gorilla advert.

That advert and that song are both amazing.

I wish people would actually read the topic.

~N9NE~ has mistaken me for this ******** Phil Collins. It seems logical because Phil also works at P&P and in fact does the same exact thing I do and he also has a penchant for Valentino suits and Oliver Peoples glasses. Phil and I even go to the same barber, although I have a slightly better haircut.

Read it more closely, or research or something. There's a part of the first post that might have given it away...

Anyway, when I see a pretty girl walking down the street, I think two things. One part wants me to take her out, talk to her, be real nice and sweet and treat her right.

The topic says "Do You like Phil Collins?", and unless you were an expert on American Psycho, you'd naturally think that all these other posts were spam. Thus, you'd want everyone to get back on topic.

Just change the thread title to "AmERiCan PsyCho Is 1337!!!11!!!" so you don't get everyone confused.

No, that would be dumb. If you actually read the first post you might realize that something else is actually going on.

Anyway, don't you have some videotapes to return, demoncaterpie?

I did read the first post. Remember how I was even confused as to what was going on?

And darn, you're right! I don't wanna have to pay late penalties for Juwanna Man and Gigli!

I read the first post looking for some indicator that this topic was about something other than Phil Collins, but I couldn't tell otherwise...so...
