I was just wondering.

I like marth, hes got a sword and some pretty bad *** hair. I can honestly say this because he owns Meta Knight ( talking about bad ***-ness here ) and was just wondering.

Do you have to study a character like what his AT's are etc?

I really just want to play with him, I obviously know SH double fair's and aerials and tilts and all used but would one have to study a lot to use Marth?

Dumb question maybe...

Did you just say Marth owns Metaknight in bad***ness <<

I personally think MK is a awesome character...just outside of Brawl.

Also no, Marths AT's are pretty useless, however you should study his matchups and EVERYTHING about him in the stickies....thats about it.

Well first off, welcome to the marth boards!

Second off, this is borderline, could have been posted in the Q&A thread, but I'll humor you.

If you had read anything you will know that sh double fair is rarely good. You would also know that Marth sucks against MK (q_q)

And to answer your question, I think it depends on the kind of person you are. Read threads and stuff, though, all the stuff around here is helpful.

If you have any specific questions or really anymore after this one in the Q&A thread, right at the top

Are you asking do you have to learn how to play a character to play them?

Yes you should learn how to play a character if you actually want to be good with them...
Please use the quick question quick answer thread next time

Although personally I don't see the point of your question =[

Oh, and read the stickies.
He's asking if you need to study a character to be good with them, which I interpreted as watch people play as him or I guess...stalk him?

Either way, Marth is very sexy, and the fact that he acknowledged this means he doesn't get the typical "post in the fawkin Q&A thread" scolding XD

Don't feel embarrassed, but for future questions maybe read them aloud and ask "Would someone else who I don't know understand what I mean by this?"

If no, then come up with a different, more coherent, way of asking it, and if yes then ask it in our Q&A thread, so long as it's about Marth ^_^

Just play with him for several matches until you get the hang of it, and then check Emblem Lords guide on Marth and improve your game. It worked for me. Oh and don't sh double fair

like i said i ask the dumbest questions

T_T

if some one would like to delete this...
Trust me, if you will have to do a lot worse then this to get actually yelled at Steel or Fear.
That was a marshmellow compared to what he replyed to my thread.

But anyway....

Know matchups, and learn EVERY move Marth has (But don't try to spike all the time.), Spacing, weaving. ect ect.
And learn to develope your own playstyle.

Welcome to the Marth boards.
enjoy.

There are no AT's.

He's a pretty straight forward character.
Doesn't mean you have nothing to learn and study though. OP, he's actually a very difficult character to play. Playing Marth is all about spacing and knowing your options well. You should definitely read the stickies and ask questions, but most of it will come with experience.

Dead. *****es.

one of my theories is that the best way to learn is to go straight into a battle. fool around in the heat of battle and you should be able to eventually do the right things at the right times.

then you read the stickies. learn things to make somethings a bit eaiser.

i welcome you to the marth boards.

Marth doesn't have any crazy ATs that aren't also used by other members of the cast. But, Marth has the tools to handle SO MUCH... he can be pretty tough to use effectively though. I've been playing Marth longest but my G&W is better... but I have faith in my boy Marth. He's got a ****-ton of potential, and is stylish while he kicks *** too. Playing him will definitely be good for your spacing game and reaction time.

But yeah, tippered attacks (edgeguard killer and early smash killer) + counter (attack killer) + dancing blade (spot-dodge and roll killer) + Dolphin Slash (combo & chaingrab killer) + shieldbreaker (shield killer) + tilts (range killer) + good aerial speed, maneuverability, juggling moves, and straight-up elegance?

This all equates to the fact that if you can absolutely *MASTER* Marth, he can be a freaking brick wall. With a sword.
And I am still yet to get there but he is promising enough that I want to keep getting better with him.

Unless you're just new to the game engine, you don't necessarily need to study a character. Just play around with the character a bit to get a feel for their in-game physics such as how high and fast the character's first and second jump is, the general range on their attacks, their grab length, dash length and speed, fall speed, etc.

After getting a feel for those, you can then integrate them into your "practice runs." Just run around BF for a while and get used to the timing on buffering your movements.

Ex. Jump onto one of the platforms, fastfall off and airdodge to buffer a dash. Then RAR a fair in the opposite direction. When you land, dash dance into some fox trots and continue to jump around and work on the speed and fluidity of your character's movements.

There's a nice guide in the tactical forums somewhere about SHADing. (short hop, airdodge to buffer attacks) Also, there's a sticky in the same subforum (by SamuraiPanda) that shows some "must-reads" about brawl's game mechanics. One of the most important ones is about Brawl's buffering system.

When you're comfortable with the character's movements and such, move on to integrating their attacks into the "empty spaces" of your practice runs. By empty spaces I mean the areas where you can squeeze in attacks- but not make your character move slower. Marth's upair is good for this purpose because it's lagless upon landing. You can use it just after landing a retreating SH.

Really, I don't think you can truly practice "mindgames" and most tactics by studying video or searching through these forums. You learn them by playing live matches with other people and practicing on your own.

Hope this helps.

DanGR hit it spot on, along with all the people, Marth has all his tools, universal ATs like Glide Toss is all.
