for me i cannot tell the difference when i do a Nair SHFFL and a Nair SHFF (w/out the l-canceling)...is there a major advantage to l-canceling or is marth so quick in recovery that it doesnt matter?

well you tell me, do you want to have a little lag, or twice as much? L cancling is easy, and becomes refelx later on, just put in an effort to practice it, and not everything should be SHFFL'd sometimes you want the stall, and L cancling is pretty much needed for everyone...except in brawl (DUMB)

Slowly starting to enjoy my mothertongue again. :)
If you can't tell the difference in lag, you're probably not fast falling early enough.

If you don't fast fall early enough, the nair ends before you land, so you just get the 4 frames regular lag from landing on the ground.

To see the difference, do a nair on your way down, close to the ground. If you press nothing, it will be laggy, if you l cancel it, then you will have very little lag.

Also, dair has the most lag out of Marth's aerials, so if you practice with that it's easier to tell the difference between l canceled and not.

Depending on the timing of your aerials, some will "auto cancel." This means that the move will completely finish in the air, and you will land as if you had only jumped without performing an aerial in the first place. If you do a rising nair and fast fall, it will auto-cancel.

But, in order to have a full mastery of the character, you need to be able to pull some aerials off right before landing; in other words, you MUST learn to L-Cancel.

here's the thing, marth's nair auto cancels if you fast fall correctly (learned that from zimmerman himselffff), also you can see the timing for it by watching m2k vs cort (annonymous) marth vs falcon, towards the end, m2k just short hop nairs the whole time, funny but, you really get to see how it's done and how fast it is, and to kal, no, marth's other aerials do not AUTO CANCEL, if you do it in the air before you land, it means the move just finished its time frame
