People are STILL salty about Ridley's explanation.

But yes, curveballs are very unlikely at this point because the time that worked best for them was before the ballot came to a close, to say that, akin to Ryu, the character was chosen as "someone you didn't even know you wanted." This condition being one of the cruxes for the cases for someone like Chorus Men or Chibi-Robo.

At this point, everyone's said what they want and, with varying reason, are damn well expecting it.

Wait, people are STILL salty about Ridley being deconfirmed? Wow. Every time I see people mentioning Ridley for Smash these days, they usually get made fun of or are mockingly called "Ridlievers". I mean, Ridley's deconfirmation has practically become a meme at this point. Had no clue that a good percentage of the fanbase were still angry about that.

While I'm indifferent about the Inklings possibly being in Smash, I would rather have someone that isn't "new and fresh" first.

There are still historical and iconic characters in Nintendo's lineup that are long overdue for Smash Bros. Games that are not only party fighting games, but also big collaborations of Nintendo's HISTORY.

Sure, I'd like a fresh face in Smash as much as the next guy but I also want to see characters that have history with Nintendo. I want to see characters that not only older gamers know and love, but also something that younger, newer gamers would like, even LOVE to know more about.

If it wasn't for Smash I never would of heard about (I'm well aware that Metroid is popular, I just didn't know it at the time), , , or and the franchises they came from, but when I played as them I wanted to know more about them. Now, years later, I know about these characters and their franchises and how important they are.

THATS what I want to see when it comes to a character's inclusion. I want to see kids and new gamers wanting to learn who these characters are and where they're from, the same characters that we all grew up with.

Call me nostalgic if you want but like I said, I'm all for new faces in Smash but I don't want to see historical characters that still havent gotten in left out in the cold and forgotten either.

This is what speculation is about. Wild guesses and hope with a dash of unfounded trust. We have no idea if it's wrong and it very well could be. However there is some credit to them. And that is why they are being given the chance to at least be speculated upon. If these were random nobodies with no followers they would be ignored like the foolish fools they are.

But these happen to be many people with various ties to each other and some things conveniently lining up. Hence why we speculate on the chance they are telling the truth. Better to bring every fake leak to light then let a real one slip through the cracks. Realism and pessimism are key, but the ability to at least see from the opposing side is necessary as well. Some have too much of one or the other (never believing any leak or believing everything is a hint) but having neither just makes speculation dull.

And I get that, I really do. I don't mind the discussion but since the talk has being of only leaks and leaks about people that apparenbtly have a good position on the 'medium'? then I have to bat my eyes at it since I don't only believe it for the moment but to me just because of postion/acknowledgement is enough to believe something. If it offers something we have not seen before, then I'll give it an opportunity to prove itself to the rest of us, but until then, nope.

Some say is one character, other says another, and when the true character gets revealed, it'll prove them to either shame and ridicule or even despicable attitudes towards them. They're playing it safe by just saying what character they think it is, and keeping it vague so that doesn't bite them in the butt. And that, while smart, it is not good of rht epeople to keep their hopes up for who they think will make it: Viable or not, and Reality or not.

I find this parading of hype without info by these sources on something like "for certain" leak information to your fellow gamers is childish at best. Who wouldn't be happy to know, but then play your role and shut up. If you're going to talk, say something worthwhile... otherwise, you're just being an ass. I'm excited to find out, just not hear about how xyz knows it, even though they shouldn't, and won't share.

Toad, Dixie, a true Pokemon Trainer, and then the specific series: Chibi Robo, Wars, and of course- some third party- such as Bomberman.

But judging by what others have said about this character not being decided by ballot results, being first party, and a character that would get in Smash eventually. The only logical choice to me are the Inklings. So I'll be pleasantly waiting for a Nintendo Direct announcement sometime this month. With the Octoling hints for Splatoon itself, this big rumor going around for Smash, and the discovery of Twilight Princess HD being on the eShop or something, Nintendo will probably be announcing things within the next couple of weeks. I'm going to be pretty disappointed and upset if it's the Inklings that are the rumored character. It's not just because I find Splatoon to be a very overrated game, it's because it's really a waste of a DLC character. Inklings are a guarantee for the next Smash game and them getting in the game as DLC means they're taking away a spot from a character that could have gotten in the game through DLC and that really bothers me.

I'm just really hoping it's not them that's being rumored. If it's them, then the Inklings are going to be the first character that I will refuse to buy. The only characters other than Inkling that I also refuse to buy is Shovel Knight and Shantae.

Speaking of which, if the Shovel Knight rumor is true, that would suck even more so. I'm honestly starting to believe that we're living in the darkest Smash timeline.

Well judging by the way things are being time framed on top of what people are "leaking", they were chosen by Nintendo specifically. Not in regards to the ballot. This is anything but a "waste" of a character slot. I much prefer having more new characters now as opposed to them showing up in six years or so.

If you're not a big fan of Squid you still have two more characters that were actually voted by the community coming up at some point.

I really hope if there's any stock in these leaks that it is the Inklings now after seeing so many complaints about them.

I don't particularly find Wolf an exciting choice after recieving 3/4 DLC characters being guys we've already played as but I wouldn't call him not fan service simply because his inclusion at this point doesn't appeal specifically to me.

At least you don't HAVE to buy Inklings if you don't want them.

You can't look at it like they're taking a spot away from a character like K. Rool or Isaac, because to be honest Nintendo has no interest in characters like K. Rool or Isaac. At least not right now, anyways.

The Inklings do deserve to be in Smash lol, even if they're coming in a little early it's certainly not the first time something like this has or was going to happen.
Inklings are part of a brand they know sells, Retro hasn't used K. Rool and Golden Sun isn't a big name. This is Nintendo's decision, not the Ballot's. Even then, to be fair, the Inklings and Splatoon brand is going to be bigger than both of those two combined in time.

You have the right to be disappointed if you have no interest in the character, but they're not stealing anyone's spot if they are being designated one specifically for them.

No one said inklings or this "splatoon crap" has to take up the ballot slot. 'there's so many characters who can benefit from a DLC slot, inklings are one of them and we are currently assuming 3 slots as of now... the future can hold more, no reason to be salty over the success of the new guys on the block. I'm not crazy about Inklings getting in off the bat but I think they hold a pretty interesting build potential for a moveset and game mechanics and from a marketing standpoint it's a great time to let them shine. There are no rules to how long a character has been around, especially when they've proven themseleves a pretty big success by their own merits.

That's my point. Whoever is coming this or next month, be it Inklings or anyone else, was not a character chosen by the votes in the Fighter Ballot, it was by Nintendo's decision alone.

From a business standpoint, because you must remember that this is still mostly about making Money for them, they are the safest choice to sell super well. Which is why I am personally certain they are the most likely candidate. You don't need to want the character or be interested them, but to complain about them "taking a spot" makes little sense when the spot was designated for them. Characters like Isaac and K. Rool have the Fighter Ballot to take spots from each other, the character potentially being released in this or the coming month is not taking anything from anyone.

Even though Isaac's my most wanted character, I still welcome the Inklings with open arms. At least they aren't niche third-party indies who really don't have the merits needed to qualify as "special cases" unlike the significant and iconic third-party characters we have had throughout history. In short, even though I'm not an Inklings supporter, at least they actually make sense.

Way back in July '14, Inkling was one of my most-wanted characters. I was super-hyped by the Splatoon demo at E3 and I thought the squid kid would be a great character in Smash.

Fast-forward about a year and my interest in them had dissipated by a fair bit. Priorities had shifted to other characters, I didn't think they'd happen because "Nintendo doesn't want to use Smash to validate their existence".

Now that there's a chance, however remote, of them happening, I find myself hyped up the same as I was way back when.

It's probably for nothing, but I want to believe.

Deserving seems like another trigger word. A lot of characters are deserving for different reasons. From my experience, however, think of it this way...if being new means you aren't as deserving, Robin and Greninja should have never happened. Yet, I find them incredibly fun to play as in Smash. Greninja is my main. Same could be said for Shulk.

Inklings might be viewed a certain way, but could prove to be one of the most interesting and fun characters in Smash...which is what matters considering we PLAY the game, not stare at it like a hall of fame to "ooo" and "aaahhh" at.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but I said "if this is all true" in my comment. Never did I say it WAS true. I know that there's no proof that this rumor is real, I'm just saying that if it WERE true, Inklings seem to be the best fit based off of what's been said.

And there's reason why you are one of the more memorable mods here because you easily point out the many flaws of the Snash fandom. Deserving is exactly what you can call a trigger word since even the unintelligent Gamefaqs community gets scared by the misuse of it.
