i'm pretty sure the "forward wavedash" is just continually interrupting a walk with crouch. The backwards wavedash requires too much input, imo, for it to be applicable when given the tiny tiny window to dtilt someone. I think dash true pivot dtilt or even bomb di crouch cancel dtilts are more effective, at least, based on my personal experience.

When I first read the title of this thread, I was thinking, "Is this going to be about z-air?" When I saw this video, I thought, "Nice. I'm going to have to see how well this works."

My conclusion:
-- Samus' crouch is too high to duck under anything, except maybe zss' mistimed aerials.
-- Walking has the same or greater speed than this trick.
-- The only benefit of this trick is to space dtilt or a bomb, but a bomb used on the ground is generally already used for spacing. So technically, you're spacing a spacing move. Useless.
-- It's walking then using the momentum from the walk to perform a sliding crouch.
-- The distance you slide is pretty small, and not that easy to control (think Zelda's wavedash in melee).
-- Walking is better.
-- Forward slide: left>crouch.
-- Backward slide: right>crouch>left.

Sorry if I ruined anybody's hopes and dreams :(

I was pretty excited when I first found out about it but after testing it didn't feel too useful. I don't see where it would fit in my game at the moment. 0RLy pretty much summed up, I feel like walking handles the majority of what you would do with this. I still think it's worth exploring in case there's a way to enhance the slide.

It's too slow to be useful, imo. Can you do a sliding d-tilt with it? That would be good. Otherwise, once again, useless.

yeah but you can use the a dash and buffer a dtilt from shield release animation. Its a lot faster and covers more space.
