yeah kinda weird questions, but also looking for response anyways so whatever lol

also colors affect hitboxes? just wondering the dsmash thing,it really has longer range? even if its a minimum or insignificant it would be still usefull to know

also whats a hurtbox?

EDIT:ok maybe the red color thing was just mental(blood falcon rapez)

When did I ever say it affected the range of their d-smashes? The others are just a tiny bit fatter as far as bumping into walls is concerned.

The orange diamond is for dealing with stage interaction. When the movement of your character would put it through a wall/ceiling/floor or whatever, the game slightly repositions you away from that surface to prevent this from happening (otherwise you'd just pass right through them obviously).

The slight difference in width of this area that normal falcon has happens to make enough of a difference here where the edge of the others' diamonds touch the wall sooner in the d-smash animation while they are moving less forward, and the pushback they get from going through the wall at that part of the attack is enough to cancel the attack by leaving the ground but not enough to fall off so they just land immediately. Normal falcon instead reaches and interacts with the wall later in the attack and is moving forward more at that point in the animation and gets more pushback because of it, and it's enough to cause him to fall off completely.

so does this mean normal falcon can tech the side of the stage better because he can get closer to it? or does it not effect that?

The different colors have very slightly different widths for dealing with stage collisions/interaction (hurtboxes are exactly the same). It manages to make a difference here and normal CF doesn't collide with the wall until later in the animation than the others, and when he does get adjusted by touching it it's enough to put him barely over the edge and so he falls.

This should give you an idea of how small of a difference it is and how they compare relative to one another (measured in DerpMeters):

Normal 1088
White .1096

Blue ..1097
Red ...1099
Black .1100
Green .1102
i realize this is a huge bump to a dead thread but.... do you have any idea why this happens? or if there are other characters that may have similar properties

This was one of the earliest Magus things I read back in 2011 or so. I always wondered which one would you want; given there might be some situation in a match that could change.

Smashers today are saying the green falcon is objectively the best. Is this the whole base of that? Or are there more differences?

Because all I get from this discussion is that his downsmash goes further forwards, thus he kicks the wall easier and pushes himself off the edge easier.

So this is basically a number that represents their downsmash forward range?
Normal 1088
White .1096
Blue ..1097
Red ...1099
Black .1100
Green .1102

(Know I'm about 8 years too late, but I can't be the only one curious about this today)

it doesnt change the Dsmash range when it comes to hitting people. just for colliding with the environment. so maybe green has a situation where its slightly easier to ledgetech. maybe

The different colored falcons have slightly different skeleton descriptions (most, or all differences are on arm bones). The absolute positions of falcons hands contribute to the ECB, and those become varied.

Neutral and green falcons starting a dsmash exactly on top of each other.

Raptor boost hitbox appears on hand, and the hitbox positions are slightly different for the same reason.

The info is fascinating, but forgive me because I am way too stupid to actually interpret the data. What are the practical differences between the colors (if any) aside from being pushed away from walls during dsmash?

Well, that is a hard question for sure :b: . Some thoughts:

  1. Green falcon has the largest peak x-range (highest x-offset on frame 4. There's also enough difference between the f3 and f4 x-coords that if the victim is doing something like a last second dash away attempt, the hitbox will "catch" on to the victim. The low y-coord could also be beneficial for catching dash away.
  2. Green falcon has the highest y-coord on f5, and nice interpolation from f4 to f5 too, it might be the best for catching a jump away.
  3. Green falcon has the lowest x-offset f3, which should make it the most likely to catch a movement through the falcon.

At the moment, I would play green if I was falcon main, since I think it's the least likely to whiff by a very very tiny margin. I'm not sure at all that the assessment is correct though. The differences are also very miniscule. Though they are still multiple times the range of a phantom hit (max overlap 0.01 between the hurtbox and hitbox), and those aren't that rare.

There must be differences with other characters too, it cant only be falcon. If someone can figure out those differences, we can have a definitive once and for all color tier list :p
