Did You Expect Sonic to be So Floaty?

I was expecting Sonic to be more ground based, kind of like Fox with fast falls, and was expecting him to be unique with the speed idea and not lose his momentum when jumping, like doing a Spin Shot by just moving and jumping.

You haven't played Sonic Adventure, don't you? Sonic is lightning fast on ground, but when you jumps he will fall slowly if you don't homming attack to boost yourself on air (It don't works in SSBB)...
I think Sakurai wanted to keep some of the character's "own game properties" (well, not at all 'cause Sonic can swim in SSBB LOL).

Well, I was referring more to the 2D games, where momentum didn't change that much when he jumped, since Brawl is a 2D game with 3D graphics, I was thinking that they would give Sonic the same 2D feel for Subspace levels.

Horizontally in the air he's one of the more maneuverable in the game, though he does fall slowly.
I don't have gripes with that though. What I have gripes with is the Sonic's general attack speed is no where near as fast as it should be.
Also, a 'rapid-fire' spammable Homing Attack would have been awesome

Mmmmm... I loved that 2D games... But I guess they based him on the 3D ones. If he keeps the momentum and speed when you jump, you could chase and gimp/kill people off stage amazingly long and fast making him broken...

There is also less gravity in Brawl when compared to Melee. Not that it makes a difference for a new character like Sonic.

Ehh Sonic was based of the 3-D versions for those that didn't know. Well some 2-D aspects too hince the figure-8 run. If he jumped and didnt loose momentum forget edge gaurding u'd kill urself...>_<;;; think about moving in the air like a 2-D Sonic game depending on where u jumped from u'd fly into the side barrier and die XP...omg the hill on Green Hill Zone would be Sonics death...XD Think of how close the barrier walls are there XD lol well thats atleast my thoughts...

What bothered me the most was that dash attack wasn't momentum-based. I'd start a short run and use dash attack and go like.. half the level. Oh well. It doesn't bother me anymore lol.

The whole game is super floaty. But haven't we talked about this already?

RixMaadi is the second coming of Boxoblol
You're too slow. Boxob has returned to judge us all!

yeah its a double edged sword cuz its better recovery and aerial combo maybe but i hate when i jump up in the air and all that speed just slows down -_-

He's not actually all that floaty. It's more that when he jumps he has this really lame period where he hangs in mid air in ball form.

Where people get NOTHING.
In SA if you hit X (Dreamcast version) after you jump you'll exit ball form and drop like you do out of a ramp or spring. You have little direction control and Sonic is floaty as he falls. Like BrawlXD

Yeah. It's cause he was floaty in Sonic Adventure.

Samus is encased in armor and she's floaty. It's cause in her games she's floaty so she can jump and shoot.

Why would he be ground based? he is really fast making him able to jump high. haha
