Defending Against a Chronic Edge-Guarder

My friend plays as Marth, and all he does is roll back and forth until he can get a good smash or two out, then he camps along the edge and keeps using his B attack everytime someone grabs the ledge or comes near. What's the best character/strategy to defend agains this? Please and thank you.

Pick Peach, spam crouch canceled downsmash. He'll lose from the sound of it.

Marth's smashes are terrible pokes. Dash dance around them, or block them and wavedash out of shield to punish them if you can.

For recovering, learn how to sweetspot your recovery options.

Use a condom.

But, in all seriousness, one thing I love against people who roll: run towards him and dash cancel (crouch while running) in front of him and flick back on the c-stick if he rolls.
You can actually react to the roll very easily.

Getting around marth's edgeguarding can be very difficult for new players, but it sounds like he only uses dsmash or something.
There are two ways you can get around it easily:
Sweetspot the ledge (so your upB ends right where the ledge is) is the easiest.
You can also ledgetech, which is important to learn, but very difficult for new players. There are videoguides on youtube (I would link you, but I'm posting from my ipod)

Its also pretty easy to punish marth's smashes once you learn how. Learning to wavedash is REALLY helpful here.
You can:
A) stand near the end and WD back once you see the fsmash start, then run in and grab him.
-or-
B) stand near fsmash range, if you see the animation start, shield and let it hit the shield, then as soon as you can, WD out of your shield towards him and punish accordingly.

Strong Bad is right, at that level of play Peach downsmashes will destroy him. You might do alright spamming projectiles with Sheik (you get sheik by holding a at the map loading screen when you select zelda) or Samus. You could also play fox and shoot lasers at him until he gets mad and approaches, then when you think he's going to c-stick at you you run out of the way, then run back in and hit him with your up c-stick

@the rest of the thread
You do realize this guy is losing to a rolling and c-sticking marth, so there's no way in hell he'll be able to bait things out with DDWD or ledgeteching, right

Tells the guy to dash dance.

Tells the thread they're stupid for telling the guy to dash dance.

No, you told him a term he wouldn't comprehend. I explained how to run out of the way of an attack, then run back and hit the guy. There is a very important difference. Furthermore, I didn't say everyone else in the thread was stupid, I just pointed out that using arcane terminology would do no good here.

@Nickaboo: If you really want to step up your gameplay, go on youtube and search "advanced how to play ssbm"

It's not arcane terminology. It's the standard expression for a standard technique; one that he will definitely easily find out about if he uses google for two minutes and doesn't need everything presented on a silver plater for him instead.
Imho only the first type really deserves answers, with the silver plater guys it's just incredible kindness of the guys who put up with it. Especially when they write texts which I am not totally sure I really understand after reading them twice :D

just stand right out of fsmash range and punish with usmash with fox. eventually he will stop fsmashing so long as he stops hitting you with it
