d-tilt usage

so i thought i'd ask about another move i don't know how 2 use properly... dtilts.

i find that i feel less 'safe' using a dtilt (cuz any SH will punish it, or at least i feel that way) than a utilt (facing the right way, of course). that said, however, i've seen in the vid archive ppl using some dtilts when their opponents are dashing at them. i honestly wouldn't feel safe doing that. the question this time:

how/when do you use d-tilts?

EDIT
when to use the d-tilt:
- anytime the opponent is in front of you (in range, obviously). this may seem like common sense, but most newer ppl would probably try to fsmash at times where they should in fact use more dtilts or other moves. it apparently opens a lot of opportunities, so it's really beneficial to work this into your game. =)
- combined with krii's 'crouch avoid list' you can use the d-tilt after avoiding any of those attacks. =)

things you can do w d-tilt:
- poke through shields
- TRIP (common knowledge, i know)
- dtilt>grabs
- dtilt>fsmash
- dtilt>hammer

NOTE: Deg's got an awesome YOUTUBE tutorial on most (if not all) of kirby's moves, so obviously you'd want to chk those out for further depth into the d-tilt.

that's cool, and i will update the top 2 reflect those, but _when_ do u use the dtilt?

i know it's not particularly _dangerous_ as there's only a little lag on it, but still, why use a d-tilt which can be SH'd over or punished otherwise (does it have good priority?) when you can use something else? is it safer when someone is landing? or shielding? dashing? i'm not sure when it's 'okay' to use it...

I'm not sure where you're getting the impression that it's unsafe to use. This move is practically instant and barely has any ending lag. I mean they could short hop it if they jumped before you down tilted. But even at that point you probably could block right before they hit you with their short hop.

It can lead to a KO as mentioned and also has pretty long range (decent priority too). It's actually safe to use because of the simple fact that you're ducking when using it. Kirby becomes the size of a pancake when ducking and is safe from several attacks.

whenever my opponent is close to me and in front of me i dtilt

its fast, trips, and can poke through shields if they are shielding

sometimes they will spotdodge and there is so little lag that i can hit them right at the end of their spotdodge anyways

so what you're saying is, use the dtilt as long as your opponent is in front of you? =) that sounds pretty straightforward (read: common sense). haha.

= ) i feel dumb for not using it more.

F-smash, f-tilt, SH any aerial although probably not nair or uair, grab, jab, another d-tilt, d-smash, pivot u-tilt. That's all I think.

Usually I dont use d-tilt as much b/c I find it troublesome to pivot > d-tilt and I just use pivot f-tilt instead to avoid the trouble. All in all though I should get my lazy *** working to practice pivoting.

I really just use it if I really need to slow down the momentum of the game with a trip (which seems to have some good psychological effects) or just a safe poking move, as with the crouch Kirby can duck under some high-hitting attacks.

I used to main Meta Knight (and as a Meta Knight main, you are required to spam the hell out of Dsmash), I use Dtilt quite a bit. It comboes well and ducks under most aerials if the they decide to SH, leaving them open for punishment.

If you react fast enough on most characters you are guaranteed an fsmash, luigi comes to mind as a character that you just have to chase as he slides so far when tripped.

Also grabs and dash attacks are guaranteed if you react fast enough too... but I think the timing is more precise and your better off just following where they roll.

I found this out while I was waiting online. If you dtilt then turn the control stick while ending the attack, you can turn while crouching. I don't know how this is useful though.

Depending on how fast the turnaround is, (i haven't tried it out yet) it could set up for a quick bair after any dtilt, so it could be very useful if the dtilt doesn't trip. I'll try to test this out and see what i come up with. Perhaps other areals or an utilt?
