That's about all I have to offer at present. Through the Looking Glass really sounded like the answer to it all.

actions like these are redundant. same goes for the ones where macman says we are in a pitch black room and everything is dark and then someone asks for a match. by now its become apparent which things are wholly unimportant, really, and its just a question of which of the possibly useful clues are going to net results.

maybe the heart, bug, cat, painting each mean a word and it makes a sentence.

Skyler does so. The entire room begins to flash dark red. You hear a scream. You all look to skyler, you see him in great agony with blood gushing from his shoulder. He seems to have gotten bit. He passes out. [Skyler can no longer post until further notice]. The painting of the screen begins to flash. For a few short seconds you see the image of a black cat being hung from a noose. You aren't sure but it looks like the cat has gotten it's eye gouged out. The painting than returns to normal.

Alright, now I think this room is just referring to something I've never seen/polayed/heard of before. This one might be kinda like the Zelda one. Can any of you guys think of games where the room flashes red when **** goes down? Or movies? Also the word "flash" was used twice in the description so it could be significant somehow.

As well as the hanging and the eye getting gouged out. Might be referring to a character with an eyepatch or something, or a person that was hanged.

I'm not sure I agree with it being hangman. Is losing an eye a hangman thing? When I play, you lose limbs off the guy, not facial features.

I meant an adapted hangman. I'm willing to bet that another wrong guess on the cat would have its other eye gouged out, and that the loss of facial (or wherever) appendages would lead to a severe penalty, like death.

Well, if it does have to do with hangman, that means guessing letters. But I think if it were the case that we were supposed to guess individual letters then the format would be different. Normally it's at least possible to solve the puzzle without having someone have to get something wrong first, so I don't think it being hangman is the fundamental nature of the puzzle. Could be something that comes in later though.

At any rate, we should try to solve the cat one first, so that if we make another wrong guess, we can confirm or shoot down whether there is indeed hangman flavor.

Apparently you recognize the story these things are nicked from, but we don't. Quit bein' such a ponce. If we don't think of it, odds are none of us read the story in question.

included in what EE says is the fact that when we solve a puzzle based on outside hints or information, though we've solved the puzzle quicker and safer than what could have been, we also lose a bit of the accomplished feeling of cracking a code or that special Eureka
