O.K. My CSS is on frame 51. How do I delete the other frames? I go to a frame that is not my CSS and click the delete button, Eventually, it deletes my "CSS frame" even when I click delete when I'm on a non-CSS frame. What am I doing wrong? My CSS has 50 tiles if that's any help. I could also get a screen shot of the CSS Organizer if I need to. If you are wondering, I have read through the whole thread and have not found anything to help. I guess I'll have to use just codes until I get this straightened out.

I'm dealing with exactly the same problem. It's virtually impossible to tell which frame I'm deleting when I click delete.

Tip: When you find out what frame your Custom CSS is on, use the Copy All button to copy that frame. Then delete down to 1, replace your Custom CSS on it and then just add new frames.

hey guys, sorry to repost this, but it seemed to be skipped over when i posted earlier.

Does anyone know how using CSS organizer affects slot IDs? Almas's file replacement code uses slot id's, which is the reason for my question.

Thanks

Sorry for the bump, but I can't get my CSS working. It just resize the icons, but it doesn't rearranges them nor add ZSS and Sheik. What must I do to fix this?

Preview image:

It stacks BR Tier characters close to each other. First three are S Tier, Next 9 are A Tier and so on...

Nice program...is it written in C#? ^^

But i dont get it...how do i set which "layout" is used in the game? Or in other words how many characters there are on the selection screen... (or does it need a code? because im a PAL user :( )
Btw i cant seem to be able to enter a comma in the number text boxes.

Is the code updated? The bug where you have to disconnect the controller in order to turn it off keeps me from using this.

I have a problem. I now have this as my CCS.

As you can see, sheik is here and Zelda isn't. But i don't wanna have Sheik and Zelda seperated. I want them as one, but dont know how to do that.
And how can i stop it from freezing ? Sometimes its freezes when I am going back to the character selection screen after a match. Most of the times its because i'm too fast or something, but sometimes i wait a little longer and it still freezes.

The resulting pile of failure I can't capture due to a lack of camera... The overall shape of the thing is similar, but the icons are all in a (seemingly) random order with odd scaling differences.

I thought I understood how to use the custom CSS code, but apparently not... I've re-read the directions that LeafGreen posted multiple times, and can't find a problem with my limited knowledge.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to deal with my ineptitude.

Scratch that, the code seems to be fine... They're in the right order when I'm not using the modified .PAC.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong on that end. Does it matter which icon is where in the CSS Organizer?
Thanks again.

Edit: Hurr durr, of course it does, that's how the code works. >_>
I'm an idiot.

What else can I remove to lower the file size? Aside from the other frames for the CSS as suggested in the OP?

The file is still 0,02 MB bigger than it should be.

EDIT: Nevermind. It's been over a week without help.

Hello, I am WackaAlpaca and I am the largest supplier of brawl modding video tutorials - hopefully you have all heard of me :)
I will be covering this program for an upcoming tutorial, and would love some questions answered so that I can proceed, and have answers ready for the more inexperienced users.

1) There are two player choice box's (The place where your CSP's are displayed) under player one and player four, what are those for? I would guess they are hidden for the computer to choose characters for things like SSE and the challenges.

2) It is mentioned in the thread that the pictures are only "Placeholders", does this mean that if I move mario to the END of the chart, and shuffle everything back one spot so that donkey kong is in the first slot that if in game I went to select donkey kong, it would select mario? Or does it mean that the pictures are tied to a code, and if I want to have a different character for a box, I would have to code that. EX//: Sheik and ZSS dont have boxes, so the code ties their box to their selection.

3) What files do I have to have to get this in my game? I know I need the sc_selchar.pac for editing, but which files do I need to replace this into?

I think that is it, if someone could answer these questions in PAINFULLLY small words, and make it the easiest to possibly understand that would be great (I hate it on forums when someone asks a question, but doesnt understand ONE part of the answer, and then has to ask ANOTHER question to get the original question answered, the whole thing just doubles the time). Also, it helps to have the dumbed down version so i can repeat it to the people who watch my videos.

Thanks again, and great work as always PW.

1. Those are for all the single player modes where there are only 2 character choices (such as training mode and co-op stadium events)

2. The pictures in the program mean literally nothing. The numbers are the only things that have meaning. The program would function the same if it didn't show any pictures at all (in fact I think it would be LESS confusing for some people).

3. That's the only one.

OK, so here is my main Q (I know MANY people will ask me this, so I want to nip it in the bud)

Here is the scenario on the editor:

In game, when I select the mario picture, will it be mario? or random?
All I did was move mario to the end, and random to the beginning - I need to know this to show more elaborate swaps in my video (Knowing what you are talking about helps, although I'll be the first to admit that I have made tuts flying by the seat of my pants without any knowledge at all XD)

Thanks for the speedy reply hotdog, that really cleared some things up.

The item is pos1. That's what will be selected. To know what that means you sort of have to understand how the custom CSS code works, because there was some confusion early on about the "names" not matching what they should be.

http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=6360644&postcount=3238

A normal CSS, without using any codes, has the IDs in the order that they show up visually (1=Mario, 2=DK... 36=random). If you change it, then it changes the order. So if your custom CSS code started with 02050607, then ID1 would be Link, 2 would be Yoshi, 3 would be Kirby, and 4 would be Fox, because that's the order that they're listed in the code. In your picture, Link would be in the bottom right because he's 1. The pictures in the CSS Oragnizer are merely for your own reference while you're designing your layout, and they don't affect what the game actually does at all.

So to answer your question, Mario would be selected if you're not using any codes, but if you are using codes, then it would select whichever character was first.

Hey again, before shooting the video (It will be shot today - no matter what), I need to know something.
This image below, it is my understanding that when I put this in brawl, it will NOT look like that, correct?

Because the actual ordering and spacing of the slots is done in the code, right?
And how does scaling work? Is it just for show aswell, or does this program actually CHANGE anything?
If I wanted to create the image above exactly in game, would I simply save this file, or would I have to use a different method, or would it be ALL coding?

I know it is a lot of questions, but honestly, I need to get this tut out the door, and my deadline is today. Quick help is immensely appreciated!!!

You need the code for it to take effect properly or else it work won't
Think of it as the program tells where the position is supposed to be and the code tells the game what the character is where.
Also the program will change scaling/translation/rotation
Hope this helps

OK, assuming I have all the custom CSS codes (Obviously) so that my custom CSS will work - does moving things around in thsiprogram actaully do anything?
that is what i need to know.

Is this just for visual reference, or does it DO something?

no, its just a tease of what you want. it won't actually create anything (that would give it an actual PURPOSE!)...

The positioning is done entirely with this program. The order of the characters is done with the code (that's the only thing it does). Just remember that the code determines which character takes which position, and this program allows you to move the positions themselves. So you could drag position 1 to the bottom of the screen the position 2 to the top, and they would still appear based on the order of your characters in your code.

And yes, scaling works. I made this using the program: http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=9813007&postcount=15
I haven't experimented with Z-axis scaling or translation yet, but I assume that those would work as well.

OK so lets assume I made a tutorial on this, what would I say about the end result of ONLY using this?

From what I understand now, it would be incorrect of me to say:
"Using this program alone, you can totally re-organize your CSS".

It seems to me it would be more like:
"Using this program, you can alter the aesthetic of your CSS, and if you use some custom made codes, you can alter the positioning of your characters in your CSS; thus giving you a completely re-organized CSS"

Is this more correct? So if I did this tutorial, would it be a 2 part type thing, this application first, then explaining the code second?

And again, please this is the most important - If I move the characters around in this app, and SAVE - will it look that way in brawl?

Thanks guys, you have all been so helpful, I just fear sounding like an idiot when I talk about this, because it's complexities (Or illusions of) escape me.

In those example quotes you said, it would be more accurate to switch the program and the code. Using the code alone, you can ONLY re-order the characters on the screen. They will still stay in the 9x4 rectangle of icons that the normal Brawl has (or become 9x5 if you use it to add extras). The program allows you to move (reposition) the icons themselves. That is how you make custom designs like a vertical style or the spread out design that you posted.

The only reason you need a code in conjunction with the program is to add ZSS/Sheik/individual Pokemon. If you don't want those, and you're only going to use the default 36 character icons, then you can use the program without any codes. So yes, you can totally re-organize your CSS using the program alone.

Alright guys! It is up and running - live at youtube.
I would very much appreciate being put in the original post, so that any new users who read this can get a better understanding of how to use it, and for those more experienced who need a refresher :)

Nobody cares :(
I have gone through the thread and alpacka's tutorial and i have codes and everything, but when i play the game and press to go to the character select screen it instantly freezes and buzzes. I'm using riivolution by the way.
The picture is in the link:
http://i54.tinypic.com/1fwnzs.jpg
The forms wouldn't resize it right so i just left the url.
It's pretty awesome by the way considering i spent 5 minutes or less on it.
Anyway Heres the code:
It's a little long but it has all the bells and whistles except for a working csscode.

Question! I have a problem actually.

When I use this program and increase the layout to 42, I save the .pac, and when I open it up again the layout goes back to 36 (default) and my icons are in random places and messed up. What's up with that? I tried the BrawlBox thing and it doesn't really work (the animation thing), it always goes back to layout 36. Also, how do our custom CSS codes change what characters are selected? Do they pertain to the character selection of pos1, pos2, pos3, etc in the Organizer, or what? Thanks for any help in advance.

Heres a thought, is there a way of putting 2 of the same characters in character select, and hack only one of them, like one can be sonic while the other is shadow, or one is peach while the other is rosalina, etc?

It's being worked on, but it's a lot harder to do than you'd think.

I also already have a working CSS with all of these but when I open it in the maker I just get the default...

What would be awesome is if there were an extra version of this or an option that supported the all characters have different slots codes. Because when you add those codes all of characters get moved to different position numbers and what you see on the organizer is completely off from what you'll see on the brawl screen.

EX: I think instead of DK in slot 2 it's samus or something
