Heyo Snake boards. I'm kinda new to the smash scene and I was wondering if anybody with experience would like to critique how I play Snake. I've seconded him for a few months now and I'm kinda curious about what you guys think. I would ask about my main instead but I don't have any vids of me playing him on the internet, so.. Here you go.

Inb4 flamers I've only been to one tournament before (Hot Dickings), and I didn't play much Snake at it. Thanks for whatever you guys may have to offer, lol.

Well, I like to be brutally honest so prepare yourself.

Your Snake doesn't make sense. Yea, does not make sense. You seem to short hop aerials randomly all over the place for no reason at all, especially bad short hop aerials like Nair. And you roll way too much for no reason. Not to mention if you've secondaried Snake for a few months, you should know not to play Snake like that. Which leads me to believe you do not play decent opponents often.

With Snake, stay on the ground and force approaches, then punish. Don't roll around like a lunatic, that just gets you wrecked at higher levels of play. Don't spaz aerials like he's Metaknight. If you think you should do an aerial, do it less randomly and not for no reason. Don't play Snake like he's Metaknight, cuz it doesn't work. You were decent with nades and C4 but that needs work too. Cook them from time to time and toss them before the blow up. Don't just always drop them.

It's really hard to accurately critique you when you uploaded a video against an opponent extremely less skilled than you. If you upload a video of someone around your skill level or better, then it'll be easier to critique.

Which leads me to believe you do not play decent opponents often. The bit about decent opponents is unfortunately true. I've only been at one tournament and my regular group of players hasn't been to any at all. Johning aside, this is exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for. Thanks!

Unfortunately this is the only vid I have so far since I just got my Dazzle, but I'll add an update later.
Responses in red. So, if I got this straight, stop spamming aerials, cook nades, and play a more defensive/campier game in general?

Ya, look up videos of Ally/Fatal/Bizkit/RedHalberd if you want better ideas of how to use Snake.

Immediately, I see that you spotdodge way too much. I saw that 30 seconds into the video.

Snake's Short hop is near useless. I don't use it at all, except to jump back occasionally. Unfortunately, you use it way too much.

Jumping up and using fair randomly isn't doing you much justice either.

Play better opponents.

That's my opinion of your match in a nutshell. I'm trying to be less harsh when I critique, because I don't feel it does anything but make me look elitist. But I'm not gonna lie to you.

Snake's SH is good for doing auto canceled uairs if they're above you and to mix up explosive tricks, but thats about it though, but sh bair oos isnt bad on tall chars.

Thanks a lot guys! This'll really help my game =D

The thing about the random aerials is that I main G&W, so I feel stupidly safe pulling out aerials because of his disjoints. I'll stop after I work all that out though lol. Random fair was on accident though. I don't remember what I was trying to do =/

I do want to get way better with Snake though. MGS4 made him iconic to me.

@Bizkit: Will do, I'm a little curious about how you play now.

WAY too much rolling which is predictability. Random nairs and airs. But I think you just need faster reactions over all. I saw you trying to grab the marth after he rolled away for a good time period. You gotta strategize more and yeah reactions.

Try and get more familiar with snake's kill percentages, and his own dying percentages. You tried to tech a c4 needlessly, as you could have easily lived blowing yourself up at 100%. Unless marth tippers or gimps, you can live to ridiculous ****. Otherwise, just listen to what the others said.

Avoid rolling too much.

Stop spamming Snake's main disadvantage (Aerials)

Most of it was mentioned :/

OMG a name I recognize answered. I love my life.
But yeah, my reactions kinda suck when I'm tech chasing, I'll admit that. Just another thing to work on as a noob.
