Helloo Marth boards. Once again, I have a few matches that I would like critiqued. I went up to Charlotte to play against one of the best Brawlers in the state, and this dude is pretty good. If nothing else, please watch/help out with the ZSS matches, as I was kind of clueless during those.

vs Ike: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8F_lCX4tuM
vs ZSS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOI-FTPy-zY
vs Snake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw6nSRZx6QM
vs ZSS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMqiPJTiWLU

Thanks in advance for all of your help Marth boards! Help me improve my game to rep Marth in NC!

Your Marth is beastly! I would really like to critique your mathces, but I'm afraid that I really can't give you any much help with those battles with ZSS, I wouldn't have done any better. Great job, there is definitely more improvement with your Marth since last time we battled.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but my Marth still needs plenty of work. I wouldn't have to make this thread otherwise lol. Thanks for the compliment man!

I think you play a really good marth.

The tips i can give you now :

Work on your spacing and abuse the last green multihit attack of the dancing blade as it more damaging. ( while your enemy is at low % )

I actually have worked on my spacing since these matches, and I'm wary of using the last down-b hit of the DB at times because it can be DI'd out of.

I could still certainly use some help though, if anyone is willing to critique me a little. I know someone wants to!

I can tell you have total control over Dancing blade, with Ike it pretty much always hit and it helped you very nicely. I wonder if I should use that technique more myself when I watch you fight. Your dodging and shielding was also very remarkable, especially during the ZSS fights. Overall, i'm really impressed.

I feel weird giving you advice, because i know i'm worse. But here it is.

Mindgames = great stuff. I could see you jump or rush at an opponent at times and it would be easy to hit you away. Instead of jumping and slashing, why not try an air dodge, so your opponent misses, and you could possibly punish? Just a suggestion.

Like I said, I'm open to all suggestions, and I'm certainly not the best Marth here. I agree with your advice that I should definately switch my game up some. It gets tough when I'm up against opponents like this guy though. That's what I'm working really hard on now. Thanks for the tip!

Interesting. You have a different style than I do (I like Marth grab/tech chase a lot). I think you should go for grabs more. Good air attacks and dancing blade, but Marth's grabs help him a lot IMO.

Yes, my grab game is extremely weak still. With the discovery of new things to do with grab release, I'll definately try to implement grabs into my game some more. Thanks for the feedback!

Alright I'm not the best Marth around, but I'll offer the advice I can.

Vs. Ike -

:15 - You stayed on past your invincibility frames to get hit by his Up-B. You could have found your way to the ledge and further gimped him. Not too big of a deal, though.

:32 - I personally thing Shieldbreaker edgeguarding is totally blech, and you got punished for it here. Ike is slow enough where you can let him get up, and then just proceed to Fair him off the stage again, so that kinda stuff is meh.

1:05 - pointless fmash. If you're gonna go for a punishing move that you know probably isn't going to tip, Dancing Blade is better. Move depletion is very important in your smashes, especially against fatty characters like Ike.

Other than that I didn't notice anything too big. Use your Down combo for your F-b more. You have a pretty good Marth. Tilts were also something I noticed you didn't use too much. D-tilt would have been particularly useful in a few situations, and especially on a place like Battlefield you can abuse u-tilt which is a really great attack.

Basically just switch stuff up a little more and you should be fine. And moar Counter, but I just have a personal love of that move XD

Very solid advice, thanks for that. I will say that sometimes I think that getting Ike off of the stage is better if I can edgeguard him well, but that wasn't what I did very well at the beginning, so I guess I was better off doing DB instead of Fsmash. I guess I'm just defending myself a little lol.
I think that my new Marth vids from this upcoming NC tournament are gonna look really good for you guys. I will definately be using moar counter and tilts, don't worry.

stick with the red combo. The green one is not reliable enough IMO. It's harder to land and people can get out of it. The red one covers a larger area so you can follow up air attacks and throws with it. The blue one is decent too.

That's what I usually do. I only use the downward attacks to shieldstab or rack up damage when close. I only use the upward attacks when I'm going for a kill/juggle when close.

I'm watching your matches now and have only seen the Ike and first SZS one.

I'll start off by saying your Marth is very nice. But something tingles me in the wrong way. In the Ike match at least both of you seemed to lack dodge-game, making it very aggressive. Also you were relying on bair too much, which has that unfortunate lag.

SZS was hard to critique, I havn't vsed much SZS myself so...

But yeah grab game, and also I didn't notice much Dolphin use. I'll add more after I watch your other matches.

Watched them all.

You're just too aggressive.
You never punish, you only get punished yourself.
In the air against SZS you're using nair/fair when theres considerable distance between you and then you just get a whip to the face.
Your aggression seems to help damage people up, but with the lovely dodging people can do you're putting yourself in awkward positions and not keeping your spacing consistant.
You just run into the opponents attacks. AND GET OWNED.

Your defensive game was shown a bit in the Snake much but at the beginning you were still just trying to aggress and were getting punished.

I'm a little inexperienced vs ZSS and Ike, that's why I was just rushing, and trying to force an opening. I should've slowed the game down and forced them to make mistakes with little risk to myself, you are right. I think I'm fairly decent vs Snake because I know that he can't punish me very well if I play smart against him. Thanks for the advice! I'll definately use it, and keep on the lookout in a few weeks for some new tournament videos from me showing how well it paid off!

I suggest you use your Tilts more, the IASA D-Tilt goes right into a perfect tipped FSmash.
