Hey guys, I'm a Brawl player (Ranked 4th in UK for Brawl, but I doubt you guys really care) and I'm attempting to pick up Melee. I've been learning all the basics for a few months now, and here are some recent videos of my Falcon:

Crews match:
Part 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFXxq-dd4rw
Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKO95dHKN08

Grand Finals (skip to 4:50)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U4RmOhKZhY

I'm not anywhere near the best, but I'd like to be one day! So any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

(btw I'm Willz in case you can't tell from the vids, my name on smashboards is for teh lulz)

It looks like you've got a great start on melee, I hope you are enjoying it as much as I do. You are lucky that peach couldn't chaingrab in the first crews match, it would have been ugly. Honestly, anything glaring other than little mistakes that you probably noticed by yourself. (random bthrow vs peach, upbing into a fsmash vs fox) Generally I've found I like to avoid going off stage unless my opponent is out there farther, falcon is easy to gimp. I saw you go off stage vs fox while he was siting at the edge, he didn't really punish you for it if I remember correctly, but I just thought I'd mention that better players would.

Have a good one, keep playing and posting vids.

i watched the grand finals match and a little bit of the crews. it looks like you have the technical stuff down.

it also looks like you approach to much. nair is a great move because of its range and how easy it is start combos from it, but don't just jump at your opponent flailing nairs, especially against sheik. captain falcon is pretty much the fastest character in the game, use that to your advantage instead of approaching.

in other words, camp more. jump around on platforms and dash dance and try as hard as you can not to get hit. once your opponent does something that you KNOW they're going to do, like if you bait a grab, you can dash away to dodge it and grab/nair/pretty much everything if you space it right.

and you're definitely technical enough to punish every option your opponent has after you get a grab, just work on your spacing. im talking about parts like 6:55 and 7:45 in the grand finals match; you do a downthrow and you hit nothing where you stomp, and it wouldn't have hit him even if sheik had teched away. be patient and just knee the sh*t out of her when she techs in place. watch some silentspectre, hax, darkrain, scar, or any other respectable player. watch what happens when they get a grab. **** happens. try to mimic some of the things they do and incorporate it into your own style.

sheik is a really tough matchup for falcon, but youre pretty good!

Thanks for this help guys, I really do appreciate it! I'll try my hardest to improve with the advice you guys have given me.

There's an upcoming melee national soon, so I'll try and get some matches of myself recorded at that for you guys to critique again. =D

one thing to remember is try to never ever

do a down air in front of someones shield, try to hit them behind. that way if they shield you cant get shield grabbed.

when your recovering, if its possible reverse up-b

it makes it easier to tech if you have to

and it just makes it harder to get edge gaurded

thats about it, you seem like your pretty good for a relatively new player

thats cool

how do u like melee compared to brawl

Cheers, and Melee > Brawl ofc.

I prefer the faster pace of Melee, and of course there's ACTUAL combos. I main Falcon in Brawl as well and I'm (debatably) best Falcon in Europe. It's just that being unable to dish out the **** combos like in melee is pretty **** unsatisfying, which is why I've picked this game up. =]

The grand finals match of my CF wasn't really serious and I can usually 2/3 stock him xD The rolling was on purpose because I was just messing about. I performed better in crews =P
