We arrive at the capital, and we get a special picture of King Garon and his army at the city's center. Citizens scream hate at the army, with one of them calling me "Prince Traitor." Once again, Garon his minions go on a killing spree as the only thing we can do is watch.
We reach the meadow before the Castle Shirasagi where Hinoka and her retainers are ready with several units. I found the Dragon Veins' message very cryptic here:
"Slows fliers, speeds up others, but Hinoka..." ... but what?
After finishing the first turn, we hear Hinoka talk to her retainers as all three state their resolve. We then see Hinoka's cutscene, and man it was awesome. The Dark Fall track fits the video perfectly as it opens up with a badass introduction as she flies from the sun in the center, and they way she emerges is like she's a god of some sort. The choice of words were a bit odd though. Her lines were,
"I spent my whole life searching for you. *Swipes lance* Finally I found you." I didn't think that was a fitting choice of words since she's more about defense here rather than searching for Corrin. The way she said her words though still sounded pretty good though.
This chapter took me four tries to get it perfectly done. In my first run, I made the mistake of putting a few of my units to the starting island on the left when I didn't know two Kinshi Knights would challenge them in addition to the two Chieftains and Omnyojis already there, and things only made it worse when I learned how the Dragon Vein tiles work here When Hinoka uses it, all the enemy fliers have much bigger mobility than they already do, while anyone else has a huge reduction in movement.
The second try had everyone go for a more center approach, but then I made the foolish mistake of putting Xander in a position where all the units at the center rushed toward him because I thought he could handle most of them. Boy, was I wrong.
The third run was a lot better though. I didn't bother have anyone go to that island. All my units proceeded though the center path except for Shigure+Nina who moved to the island around the top from the bottom where everyone began in order to take care of the three Onmyojis there as well as the incoming Falcon Knight (in addition to having him use the Dragon's Vein tile should Hinoka use hers). I also had myself, Xander, Laslow, and Effie handle all the units come in from the center without being on any tile where Azama would use his Hexing Rod. Once I took care of most of them, I then proceeded to move myself, Xander, and Niles to take out the Onmyojis and Falcon Knights ariving from the nearby left, while Arthur+Effie tried to weaken the Kinshi Knights at the bottom (by then, the Oni Chieftains there were taken care of prior). Odin+Elise and Azura fell back to help Shigure+Nina handle the enemy units coming from the bottom where I started. Niles eventually helped out with that too.
Azama succeeded using all three of his Hexing Rods though: one on Laslow, one on Azura, and another on Niles. Luckily no enemy unit overwhelmed any of them when they got affected, but jeez, the RNG luck I tell you!
Then came the final stretch. I had Arthur land the killing blow on Azama to gain some exp, and I put all my units with good resistance in front of him to keep him safe. Then an Onmyoji came in with a Lightning tome, and I was like,
"Lightning, seriously?" That Onmyoji ended up having four shots at using it, and what you know it, Arthur died. Man, I was so close! So frustrating considering I made it through all those hectic flying units without losing anyone. I had to restart from the beginning again because I couldn't bear it.
The fourth try was like the last one, but better. This time, Charlotte managed to get some kills on the Falcon Knights on the center left, and Azama wasn't very lucky with his Hexing Rods. He only succeeded once, and that was on Effie (the other two were on Azura).
I had a unit other than Arthur finish off Azama this time around, and I also managed to take out the remaining Chieftain and two Onmyojis before they could reach me with the help of Niles, Odin, and Xander. The turn after, Hinoka sends in
more reinforcements and uses her Dragon's Vein tile again. Good thing I was right by one to turn the tide.
Taking out Hinoka wasn't too bad as I thought it would be. Dread Fighter Mozu got one hit on her with a Silver Dagger, and then Shigure proceeded to finish Hinoka with a Beast Killer (still was pretty tense considering both Shigure and Mozu's accuracy weren't perfect at that moment). I then had Elise finish off the Chieftain that was with Hinoka. Azura proceeded to sing so that I could reach the tile and seize the map for victory.
After the chapter, I encourage Hinoka to escape with her retainers immediately so that she can survive and not have to worry about Garon's forces killing her. Hinoka is reluctant about it, but then Camilla comes in and has to convince her to give in to my demands by putting her close to Hinoka's neck. As Camilla explains the situation, she drops this line right in between one of her sentences at one point.
...
twice (the second time is worded differently and used in a different sentence, but it once again follows after Camilla says my name). Geez, Camilla just loves to rub the whole
"He's my brother" down people's throats.
There's also this.
Camilla then talks about how Hinoka blushes like me, and even her face looks a like mine. Gotta love how the game teases how the Hoshido royal siblings are my birth siblings despite their S-Supports and Revelation stating otherwise.
Camilla then leaves once Hinoka is convinced, and Hinoka reveals Ryoma is waiting for me in the castle. Following that, she states this:
She says this several times throughout this scene, and the fact they keep emphasizing it that much is already a pretty good death flag for Ryoma at this point, similar to how Leo kept emphasizing
"I don't know what's going to happen" right before Chapter 26 of Birthright to put the death flag on Xander/Elise .
At the scene's conclusion, I tell Hinoka that I wish that everyone will come together as siblings after the war. Once I depart, she tells herself that while she can't forgive the Nohrian army for what they done...
Man, that moved me a little to see Hinoka still has faith in me.
Quite the good chapter overall.
