I know at the local schools here CP is pretty much banned. Which I think is BS. My sister-in-law is a teacher at a local school and she just went to a siminar over the new policy, and yeah its even more BS.

Not only are they saying no CP EVER, the child is now supposed to sit at a special table/section/corner/whatever and reflect over there actions and they may rejoin the other kids WHEN EVER THEY WANT TO. WHAT THE HELL KIND OF MFBS IS THIS?

The rules should be set as to what is and isn't punishment, not completely removed.

But Pluvia also has a point in saying in that people would begin to abuse it.

What do you mean begin? People already abuse kids, because of the lack of laws regulating cp.
Not really, well at least here anyways. Basically any kind of physical pain torwards a child is worthy of firing/fines/removal of children/jail time. This doesn't mean that abuse still doesn't happen, it just means that they aren't abusing the right of CP.

Now in places that its not completely removed and laws don't clearly define, I agree 100%.

More like, people are abusing kids because they (the adults) have the physical, emotional, and mental dominance over a child

Last I checked there was none of that here and it gets abused like it's going out of style.

last I checked, I've never seen any type of Corporal punishment down where I live.

I do have to agree though that school system should definetly enforce but only to a certain extent, (no physical abuse whatsoever, no explicit language etc...)

@Exec: You live in the south as well? and you called me weird

Texas is not the South. Texas is Texas. Deep South's borders are Louisiana to the west, Tennessee and North Carolina to the north, and certain parts of Florida.

Tuscaloosa, Alabama qualifies as Deep South. And, since I've technically been an Alabamian forever despite only living here three years, I have one of those permits where I can mercilessly define, mock and ridicule the entire region. Georgians think they have those too, but they're mistaken.

Bama is No. 2 in the AP Poll right now. Respect.

WRONG!

the only difference between the "deep south" (Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana) and Texas is that they are well... in different zones, which Texas may not exactly be part of the "deep south" but regardless they are still part of the south including Texas.

permit eh, I envy you.

WRONG...ER!?

Texas is the only state to use "y'all" as a singular pronoun, plus it has a major hispanic influence (esp. West Texas). Texas was also its own country and would probably be insulted to be included in the same group as lowly Mississippi.

Also, I posted in all the stickies. Still bored. The PRoom is deserted.

hmm.. well you do have a point, most Texans around here would probably get rowdy just for being compared such low-liners such as Louisiana (no offence)

I was thinking about this and has anyone really come up with a reason why it's ok to hit kids past the toddler stage?

When you hit a kid it weakens their relationship with you. Most people do it on impulse, and it usually has the opposite effect of what they're trying to achieve. Instead of making the kid think "They hit me because I did.. etc" it's just as likely to make the kid think "They wouldn't listen to me and they hit me".

It's much more effective to deal with the roots of the problem rather than the problem at hand. The best thing you can really do for someone is to listen to them.
