Basically, you can use the RNG in battle to tell exactly when you're going to land a crit, burn the opponent with something like Fire Blast, flinch them via Air Slash, etc. I'm sure most of you know that abusing the RNG can be used to create flawless IV'd Pokemon, and shinies, but this is a step further into the game's mechanics. How would this affect the game? Well, if you could predict when you're going to crit the opponent, if they know what you're doing, they could attempt to throw off crit by using an unexpected attack that would wreck the frame, or Protect the turn that you were going to attack. This would lead to quite a change in the wi-fi metagame.

So post away, and discuss what the effects of this would be if it finally was figured out!

If it was figured out, Toxic Spikes would be top tier!

Example set:

Cloyster
Leftovers
Impish
252hp
252 def
6att
Protect
Toxic Spikes
Substitute
Avalance

Set up Toxic Spikes, Set up a sub (or protect until you can), then protect spam. Use sub once you have 100% health again. Toxic stall FTW

Crits are already infuriating enough while they're random.

Riots would ensue if people could now start calling up double-damage and defense-ignoring attacks whenever they wanted.

The thing you guys you have to remember is that the opponent isn't helpless to this abuse. Assuming they know what they're doing, they can do something that would ruin the frame and turn the crit was going to happen on. Running Quick Claw, for example, increases the frame by one and thus if the frame is on 5, where a crit is going to happen, the frame will advance to frame 6 and a crit will be avoided. I'm not saying that this would be good to have, but it could indeed be manageable.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what this means. So there's essentially a list of randomly generated numbers that the game goes through to determine "luck"-based events, and each turn it goes through a certain number of values in the list depending on the circumstances.

If so, this does NOT mean the player can call up crits whenever they want, but only try to land on the "crit" number whenever it shows up? And this would not help that Cloyster set, because you wouldn't be able to manipulate the RNG enough if you're only using Protect. Right?

Wow this would be awesome or horrible depending on the person who uses it...

Anyways, I assume this is for Platinum right?

This is for all of the 4th Generation games (I think).

T-block hit it right on though. You would have to land on the crit number when it showed up, and if the opponent did something that used a different number of RNG frames (say Fire Fang-it uses up 5 whole frames, one for damage, one for accuracy, one for burn, one for flinch, and one for critical hit chance, while Seed Bomb uses one, damage). It would be incredibly hard for the Cloyster set to work,

Out of curiosity, how does one know what the RNG frames are? Is there a way to do it without hacking the cartridge?

I not, I don't know why everyone is so opposed to this lol... it'll evolve a different metagame, but it shouldn't have any effect on the current metagame, no?

Yeah, I'm not sure why anyone would use that Cloyster set when you have

Clefable @ Leftovers
Magic Guard / Bold
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 HP
Protect
Detect
Endure
Substitute

It'll just be lot more dull / dumb when you have knowledge of critical hits and etc.

Then put something like Softboiled over Detect and it works.

Oh god, another number we're gonna have to learn to calculate. <.<;
Anyways, as much as some of us hate it, they'll probably figure out how it ticks eventually. It's only a matter of time. Still, I dislike the notion. We all hate (or love) hax sometimes, but still.

I don't really see a practical way to implement this. Even if there was I think I fall on the side that doesn't want this. It's interesting to take apart the game to see how it works but there are somethings better left alone.
