Hey everyone. I've been kind of putting around this Site for a few years, and I've never really contributed a whole lot in terms of substantial, lasting material.

And since the Yoshi forum is easily one of the most cohesive and cooperative examples of the Brawl community I've ever seen, I found it somewhat strange that we have such a distinct lack of comprehensive video footage for advanced Yoshi techs.

Now, I'm aware that there have been a few videos, and I certainly don't want to step on any toes. But from what I've seen, the videos are either somewhat outdated and comprised of a previous Yoshi metagame, or barely discernible due to the video-recording quality.

So here's my proposition. I want to create a kind of multi-purpose Yoshi movie. The first part of it would be a guide to every advanced technique that the community as a whole can think of that would be worth including in a video. It would probably be my Yoshi performing all these feats just for consistency.

The second part would be like a montage of a large portion of the talented Yoshi players among Smash Boards. We could put together some solid footage of 1v1 smashing and overall really amazing Yoshi-play and make a video to kind of end all videos. Every person that submits could have like their own section, their own music, etc.

I got the idea from some folks on the DK forum, who were doing a similar montage-video.

The only problem for me is, I'm kind of a noob at the built-in recording process for Brawl. I can't fathom why sometimes the option for me to record a match appears, and sometimes it doesn't. But I'm sure any of you astute scholars can straighten me out on that matter.

Anyway, just throwing this out there. What do you folks think?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Although, just like the videos out there are steadily becoming out-dated, this will, too. Of course, we could make it a recurring thing, like maybe one every couple months or something, that'd be cool. =P

As far as the in-game recording goes, I wouldn't rely on it heavily. You can only record matches that last three minutes or less. I suggest getting some recording equipment/software and do all of your recording with that.

On a slightly related note, I need to get more vids of my yoshi out there. I know for a fact ALL videos of me on youtube are very out-dated. =/

Yeah, if you want to post it on YouTube you'll need video recording equipment anyways. For the outdating: I don't know how good you are with video editing, cutting, etc., but if you keep the source material and have a good program to do the editing, you could easily just insert another piece of footage when a new technique is discovered, for example, and then post an updated version.

I think it's a pretty cool idea, I'd suggest making the guide part similar to the SSBM Advanced How To Play video.

Also, Shiri has made a guide named Project Y.O.S.H.I. for SSBM that was accompanied by two videos that were pretty cool. You might get some ideas there, too. There's a sticky thread about it in the Melee Yoshi board.

So yeah, I'd love to have something like that, maybe you could even expand it and make it a substitute for a written guide instead of just a tech video.

And in case you need any help with PC video capturing, I may be able to help you out, so feel free to ask.

I am working on a new advanced tech tutorial with a plethora of techniques (some having yet to be discussed) with good quality as well as a combo video.

Sounds cool. So each player will have like a mini combo vid inside the video?

@ Yoshinator: I'm pretty handy with Sony Vegas. I know that this video will also become obsolete in due time, but like you suggested it wouldn't be too hard to edit in new features, or release entirely new sequels. It could even be like an annual or quarterly release incorporating all the latest stuff and new smashers.

@ Badger: If you wanted, we could kind of combine forces on the technical tutorial aspect of the montage-piece. I've seen a few of your videos before and they were exceptional, and I'd love to work something out for you. If you'd rather do your own thing, that's cool too, I'd still love to include a section in the video featuring some of your work if you were game.

@ Burntsocks: That's the idea. Doesn't have to necessarily be a "combo-video," it could be some straight up match if that's what you wanted your section to look like.

I'll definitely work with you. If you have AIM, IM me at Badgey612 sometime and we can start it.

I might be able to get some high quality videos finally up this weekend. I'll be at a tournament and I'm pretty sure most of the matches are going to be recorded.

Managed to get a couple of vids down, still pretty confident about this project.

My AIM is OminousPiratus for anyone that's interested. Just hit me up any time you see me on.
