Not saying it can't be, but it isn't inevitable that will be as good. I bet Soul Caliber two people said that about Soul Caliber 3 being just as competitive and **** and look what happen to that.

A ****ty competitive game.
That's a failure, because Soul Calibur III was released just for console. I'm not even sure if that supposed Arcade edition was released yet. Total screw up of the competitive scene for the SC series during that time.

people like you are over reacting, check this vid out.

that was an early Melee tourny on the competetive scene. Notice how most of Melee's AT arn't in play?
People need to remember Melee's metagame didn't spring up over night, these things take months and years to develope. Have faith, Brawl will develope over time just as Melee did.
Heh, didn't realize how slow Melee seems in 2002. I'm sure we'll find more glitches to exploit, don't you worry casual gamers ;).

But seriously, AT has been important because it brings more dimensions to smash. If you disagree with using AT, then don't learn them, but also don't start flaming. I personally like learning and improving myself. It's what I find fun.

And on a sidenote, it's annoying how people complain about "broken" characters. There are always ways to counter them, since Smash is in general pretty balanced. It's like saying, "DUDE, the queen in Chess is so broken! CHEAP, BAN BAN BAN!!!"

Whenever I play chess, we turn all Queen's, Bishops, Rooks, and Knights, and play only with Pawns and Kings.

That' way it's fair.

Read LeftManOut's post about the game. It is really screwed up entirely.
Yes, Soul Calibur 3 is a **** game. It's basically the Tekken 4 of the series. Also, it was the lack of an arcade version that caused a lot of problems. It's hard to develop the game when you've made a change as drastic as that and people decide just to arcade on SC2. It's nothing like taking out a few ATs that will be replaced in time by another metagame.

Will technical players:

1) Flounder

2) Quit

3) BAAAAAAWWW

or

4) Stop whining and play Brawl competitively?

And for those who are saying "lol ur not competeteve," how can you judge this? Do you know what I look like and have visited every single tourney to make sure I'm not there? Using your logic, I could easily claim that George Bush was never president...Just because I don't use ATs doesn't mean I'm not competitive, but just a not-as-technical sot that practices a lot and goes to the odd tourney knowing that he will lose, but tries anyway because he enjoys it...And yes, I often confuse battlefield with final destination...They both look very similar...

Wow people can't stay on topic here.

As people have already mentioned the two premier other fighting games are mainly SF3:III and GGX. Soul Calibur used to be great until SC3 blew. Let's hope brawl doesn't do the same. (Note: i'm sub-touny level in both, only play locally so I could be incorrect in the emphases of the games at high levels.)

GGX is among the fastest paced games, even more so than melee. It also has tremendous character gameplay variation. It also has a good number of ATs, an instant air dash, and an extremely important cancel technique (kind of like l-canceling but much less intuitive or forgiving) called roman cancel which is crucial to strong combos. Finally, with a few exceptions, its extremely offense oriented. I'm not familiar enough with competitive play to know about the character balance.

SF3:3 is a quite bit slower paced, and has a very powerful universal advanced blocking technique called parrying. If you like ATs there's also a very useful trick called kara-canceling for thows where you cancel an unconnected basic move in order to get more range. What happens when someone is knocked down isalso an importantaspect, as are throws and are supermoves (making use of their invincibility frames).
much faster. SF3 also has extremely poor balance, similar to smash, with 3 main charactes, then a couple more second tiers occasionally but most of the roster is unplayable competitively.

Ive seem an influx of Smash children posting and a dramatic decrease of the notable smashboadds names posting...

that speaks volumes of the effect this is having on the completive community.

GGXXAC is supposedly balanced enough that the tiers don't matter much, especially in the states where the scene is so much smaller. Though I guess that's the drawback... you won't have anyone else to play with in most of America. Plus you'll have to invest in an arcade stick if you want to take it farther than casual play on the Wii, since Wii and GC controllers just aren't made for traditional fighters.

But if Brawl's competitive scene doesn't turn out well GGXXAC would probably be my second choice...

I'll say it one last time. If you've never played competitive SSB64 you're missing out. Hell you can even play it online unlike other fighters.

wow... ok seriously.

fox falco no items wavedashing x infinity final destination was getting old. be GLAD everyone has to start from the basics and work their way up, maybe the "top" this time will be a little more diverse and interesting.

and of course new "techniques" will be found but lets hope they're intentional lets hope each character in the game is good at a different style of important game technique lets hope brawls tournament scene is better than melees.

just because brawl isn't melee doesn't make it BAD in fact it's suppose to be BETTER so lets give it a chance and see where we get.
