I've got a lot of free time this week, strangely enough, so maybe I'll squeeze in my own Bubbles redesign. I don't feel like doing moveset drawings so much anymore (THO I do have two in the works *natch*). I definitely have been playing Kirby's Superstar a lot all lately, as well as Mario Baseball, and so I am killing to see a lot of these talked about characters in Brawl.

The Balloon Fight minigame I didn't like so much (but that's just me...), but the Metroid Prime and Wind Waker ones were good fun... and the Star Fox one kicks so much ***... (OG Star Fox @ 60 FPS! Giant R.O.B. w/ Light Zapper! ZOMG!)

But yes, Bubbles FTW!

*LOVE IS OVER! ... OH, AND BUMP!*

But at any rate, I do hope that the her recent cameo appearances in Donkey Kong: King of Swing and WarioWare: Smooth Moves indicate a good opportunity of Bubbles being in SSBB. Retro Nintendo FTW!

That's actually a point of debate. Apparently Bubbles is genderless.

REally, I recall her Trophy in SSBM saying she's a girl...

Although, there are a lot of inaccurate info on trophies in SSBM.

Still, for the time being, I'm calling Bubbles a girl.

Yeah, there IS a bit of a gender issue with Bubbles - In the original Japanese version of the game, the character is named "Gloopy" (also "Groopy") and is male. Upon it's North American release, NOA decided rename the character "Bubbles" and make it female instead.

yeah, I just learned about this...

You know, this is kind of similar to Birdo's gender issue. Why does Nintendo confuse us like this?

O Bubbles, Bubbles! wherefore art thou Bubbles?

Heh heh... That was muy lame-o, I know... but I think Bubbles has been ignored long enough. Now why am I reviving this long-neglected thread, you ask? I just wanted to see what are your opinions regarding whether Bubbles is going to be playable or thrown in as a mere AT. Sadly, I see the latter situation as a vastly greater possibility. I still think she'd make a great character, but with the recent upsets of Samurai Goroh and Lyn getting the shaft, as a much more obscure character the odds don't really seem to be in her favor. What do you think?

You think THAT'S confusing?

Personally, I'd ratherhave no Bubbles in the game than Bubbles as an AT. Whenever I'd get her, she would be there, in the game, NOT playable.

Mocking me with those cold, doll-like eyes...

Oh God... Ya had to bring up Poison... o_0;;

But yeah, Bubbles would make an excellent AT. But I'm still convinced that she'd be better suited as a playable character - and I'm probably the only person here on SWF that thinks that... Ah well...

I sort of hate AT's just for this reason, deconfirming great characters (IMO, anyway). I mean, AT's work for Hammer Bros and others, but Samurai Goroh had so much potential, as did Lyn (I didn't like her, but that doesn't mean she couldn't fit). It will be bad if Bubbles suffers the same fate :(

Sorry Bubbles was already considered and rejected during melee. If she is in the game she will most likely end up an AT.

rejected due to time constraints....like Peach, Bowser and Pit in SSB(Pit was replaced with Jiggs), Balloon Fighter, Bubbles, ExciteBiker, Mach Rider, Snake in SSBM(all of those retro characters were replaced by Ice Climbers...and you know the fate of Snake)....

so I think Bubbles has a chance...

So, if she was a rejected character in Melee, with the year they've had to work (actually, more than a year. I'm sure they started way before they showed the first e3 video), they haven't had the time or thought to work on possibly adding her character for Brawl, especially if she was already considered?

Actually she was rejected because (according to Sakurai) she didn't really have the fighting ability or something like that. Same goes for Balloon Fighter, and then Urban Champion didn't have a lot of moves he could use and I shouldn't even have to mention Excite Biker. So Ice Climbers was put in melee to represent those games.

Of course it was on the Japanese site for Smash DX (Melee) under the Ice Climber profile

All we have are rumors to fly by (in fact, you were the first person I ever saw say that Bubbles was rumored), when I see a definitive source, I'll believe that a team of professionals are less imaginative than some random guy on teh internetz.

*SIGH*

A cited source would be nice, but here is the Babelfish translation

First, representing from the Family Computer original character, one it probably will put out! When with it decided, then it was the method of elimination. Balloon fighting spirit... the balloon being divided, useless so it puts out and the urban champion... ワザ puts out so little and does not know whether round and round the land... how it is possible to fight, and the being excited motorcycle... the jump stand it is attached, if and others it is not, it puts out, (not to be such problem)
As we know, Babelfish can't translate Asian languages for crap, but I don't see anything about Bubbles in there.

Basically it was an elimination method

Balloon fighter and the whole balloon thing was pretty useless---REJECTED

Urban Fighter had only 2 moves (techs or in japanese "waza") didn't have enough fighter potential---REJECTED

Clu Clu Land (Bubbles) How can it even fight (This is what Sakurai is saying)---REJECTED

Excite Biker all the crap with the stands and bike jumps was too much trouble--- REJECTED

This games winner is ICE CLIMBERS.

and there you have it...

TROLL BEGONE!

So perhaps Sakurai and his development team weren't able to devise a feasible moveset from the game's raw content with the considerable time-constraints placed upon them... I'm actually impressed they were able to pull off Melee at all given their extremely tight schedule for completion of that project. And regardless, what applied to Melee need not necessarily apply to Brawl.

How am I being a troll for giving truth, they most likely are going to have the same fate. It's not like they said it was an accident they didn't include them. They had acceptable reason hwy they were rejected. It's all about objectivity, don't let subjectivity rule your choices on characters, otherwise you will be set up for bigger disappointments, need I mention Deoxys, Goroh, Munchlax and Lyn?

Regardless of whether you can back your statements up with facts (or your interperetion of the facts) or not, I’d hardly call your assessment ‘objective’, as you’ve implied that the character wasn’t even worth a second look, among other things, so don’t preach to me about objectivity and subjectivity. Besides, I did in fact mentionon the previous page that I expect her to get the AT treatment over that of a playable character, so I wouldn’t quite say that I’m setting my self up for disappointment... I just stated that I still think that Bubbles would make a good character addition – and that she shouldn’t be written off completely just yet. At any rate, you've made your position clear enough and I've made mine, so there's no reason to continue this frivolous debate...

No, this is fact.

Although I do think with work Bubbles could be playable, but I don't support her. And I dunno how in the world the Excite Biker could ever be playable.
