Setting you up the bomb.

With all the talk of including classic Nintendo franchise characters to the SSBB roster, I'm suprised that there hasn't been one for Bubbles yet. She's the main protagonist of one of the NES's earliest titles - Clu Clu Land (Kuru Kuru Land in Japan).

It may also be worth noting that Bubbles made it in DK King of Swing as a secret playable character, so it's not like she's been forgotten about.

EDIT: FlipTroopa delivers once more with a moveset for our heroine Bubbles:

B: Sonic Boom -- Shoots off a soundwave that stuns enemies when it hits. Can bounce off walls, but it only reflects a very short distance. It WILL, however, knockback instead if it's a reflected soundwave. Always travels straight ahead of wherever Bubbles "sounded out."

Forward B: Typhoon Kick -- Bubbles slams down the pole into the ground, and kicks off into the air, spinning around the pole for about 3 rotations. This has high knockback, and if you hold B, she will remain spinning, building up speed, but not power. When she starts moving faster, it pulls opponents in instead of knocking them away, dealing a crazy "tornado" of damage as they are comboed upwards and flung out. This part of the attack lasts as long as you hold B. However, she is very vulnerable to projectiles and can still be hit by a well-timed or placed attack.

Up B: Flinger -- On the ground, Bubbles attaches the pole to the air (funky ) horizontally, and throws herself off it like a gymnast, doing a short flip and taking the pole with her. In the air, she does the same, but the pole bends much further, and flings her very high in a tucked roll. At the end of the jump, the pole reappears in her grasp, and she falls to the earth.

Down B: Whirlpool -- Similar to Pikachu's Thunder, albeit... backwards, and not as much range. Bubbles slams the pole down in front of her, creating a splash of water that forms into a powerful funnel. It travels upwards at half the height of Pikachu's Thunder, and pulls opponents downwards, dealing combo damage. They will slam into the ground and be pummeled until the attack ends. This is great for anti-air games, or setting up a throw. There's some lag afterwards, as she grabs her pole back.

Please feel free to post any comments or suggestions you may have.

I'd love for her to make a comeback in Brawl. Besides, it'd be nice to have a unique female fighter... Now we just need somebody to brainstorm some ideas for her moveset.

I support thios idea, as for moves, maybe one attack could be her swinging around the pole while you charge the b button, and when you let go, she's sent flying into someone, the more you charge could give you further distance and make it more powerful.

Since the main action of the game involve swinging around poles and launching in a given direction w/ gained momentum, I had this crazy idea where Bubbles would pull out a pole which magically suspends in the air and allows her to do just that. Two variations would involve this idea - her B> - in which the pole appears vertically, where she would charge by swinging sideways faster and faster then launch herself forward in a Sonic spindash-type attack - and her B^ - where the pole breifly appears horizontally, where she swings around automatically only once, launching herself upwards.

Yes, I think Bubbles is another good classic character that could be included. There's certainly plenty to choose from! I think Bubbles is on a similar level to Balloon Fighter, who as I'm sure you all know nearly made it into Melee, (and I hope will be in Brawl) so it could happen.

Balloon Fighter meh... there's plenty better classic characters to use besides him...

Also, I think there's a good reason he didn't get into SSBM in the first place - they probably couldn't find enough material to work into his character. Besides, can you picture a puny guy straped to balloons holding up to the likes of Fox, Samus, C. Falcon, or Link? Don't get me wrong - Balloon Fight was a fun game, but I really don't think he'd work out too well in SSBB...

I bet people would say the same thing about Ice Climbers if Balloon Fighter made it over them, I say he'd rock for the new game, but it's not like we're going to change each other's minds.

Do you really want Balloon Fighter that badly? Balloon Fight may be one of the more recognizable classic franchises, but trust me, there's better material: Punch-Out!!, Star Tropics, Mach Rider, Clu Clu Land, Nazo no Murasamejou (might be Japan only, but would be a crime to omit). I would like to see BF make an appearance in SSBB, just not as a playable...

Also, why did the ICs replace BF? Simple: Hammers >>>> Balloons.

I think Balloon Fighter has a better chance then most, if not all of the series you listed, I actually DO want him in, I could easily see him playable, they made G&W playable, I see no reason why the same couldn't be done for him, after him coming so close in the last game, I see him near the top of the preference list IMO.

Mr. G&W is a jack of all trades, so coming up with a moveset for him wasn't all that hard (all featuring attributes to the many titles he starred in).

And Balloon Fight better material than Punch Out!! or Star Tropics? You gotta be kidding! It's on a bit more equal footing with Clu Clu Land an Mach Rider, but even those are also better choices, IMO, due to Bubbles making use acrobatics and Mach Rider being a combat racer - even moreso than F-Zero. But atleast BF is a better suggestion than the Duck Hunt dog...

At anyrate, let's stay on topic - this is a Bubbles discussion.

EDIT: Sorry if I got carried away. For some reason, Balloon Fighter suggestions really get me worked up... But not quite like those for Tom Nook.

Maybe something to do with a sea urchin, TO WIKIPEDIA! (Rides off on white horse)

(comes back)

Maybe super move could be the timer, she'll use it, the oponents freeze and she could take the opportunity to beat them up, maybe for another moves, she could spin on the pole really fast, making small gusts of wind hit the opponent. Another could be tossing a sea urchin.

B neutral = Urchin Toss? - Definetly see use of the urchin though.

That bit about the gust of wind gives me a good idea, though:

Bv - Dizzy Twister: Pulls out pole vertically and spins really fast slowly toward the ground, forming a red tornado animation. Deals out consideable damage, but, as the name implies, Bubbles gets dizzy after attack and is vulnerable for about 3 seconds.

Perhaps smash attacks could involve her using the pole to smash people like the Ice Climbers do with their hammers. Maybe she could toss an ingot in the air and catch it for her taunt.

This actually started on in the Mach Rider thread, but FlipTroopa had the ingenious idea of Bubbles using the pole as her weapon all together, similar to Soul Calibur's Kilik. Just imagine a cutesy little Classic Nintendo character as bo master... it's just too cool...

 Glad you like my idea so much, man. Very flattering. Honest. :chuckle: :chuckle: *strokes his ego a little more*

Wanna moveset? :p Just the B attacks, but the As should be easy to imagine as well.

This is great for anti-air games, or setting up a throw. There's some lag afterwards, as she grabs her pole back.

Like I said earlier, the A attacks could be using her pole like a staff, and I can see her spinning around it for a lot of her skills, even her throws. Imagine a grab where your character spins around a pole, grabs the opponent, and then flings them off a powerful spin in the direction you want. Very kinky.

On an aside: Bubbles was originally a male fish known as Groopy. Play the original Clu Clu Land and look at the manual. I'm pretty sure it's there somewhere

Guess that puts poor Bubbles in the same boat as Birdo...
At any rate, Birdo's pretty much accepted as female now, so I believe this also applies to Bubbles.

Back on topic, excellent ideas once more FlipTroopa. :)

Do we need another ball character? o_o Kirby and Metaknight are enough for now. Let's bring in someone who is more iconic.

Bubbles is NOT a puffball like Kirby or Jigglypuff... And SSB isn't just about "iconic" characters - otherwise we would have never seen the likes of the Ice Climbers, Ness, Falco, etc...

God yes, I support this. I love the moveset, FlipTroopa. :)

I'm a sucker for the classics, and SSBM was a total sausage fest (only 4 girl characters out of 26) so I think Bubbles would be an excellent fighter, and a refreshing character to play.

Meh. Plain red ball with buck tooth. Not my cup of tea, ya know? Just doesnt stack up to more interesting characters like Link, etc.

A few Nancies aside, it looks like your suggested moveset has been very well received, FlipTroopa.

Also, looking at your banner, would you consider making a Princia thread? I've done some thinking and I see a sort of genie theme going on with her. Also, her homeworld is the desert kingdom of Magica so does anyone else see use of any 1001 Arabian Nights mythology?

EDIT: Suddenly Doki Doki Panic comes to mind.

I just knew someone was going to bring up the "pole dancer" comparison sooner or later... C'mon people - don't be so predictable - and try to come up with better counter-arguments than "OMFG! Uninteresting buck-toothed red colored puffball that is a pole dancer! Worst. Idea. Ever. LOL."

Ok then...no, I don't like Bubbles because there are a lot of other characters I'd prefer to be in Brawl over her.

OK - it's a start at least. But besides your personal opinion, do you have any better reasons why she shouldn't make the cut? She may be obscure, but she is from an action-oriented game (a simple one at that, but what do you expect from a game from 1984?) and has appeared in DK: King of Swing as a secret character, so it shows that there is at least some level of interest in the character and not utterly forgotten.

Of course not, you just like girls with huge ***** for brawl j/k. Anyway, pretty good moveset Flip, now I don't see a reason why she wouldn't work.

Those buck-tooth really do annoy me, that's my main reason other than the one I stated above.

Iggy K pretty much summed up the rest.

*head a'splodes* Thanks for liking it guys. I was wondering how it would be received; it's a funky-*** idea for a moveset. Especially with a character like Bubbles

She would definitely be a surprise character if she appeared, no doubt.

And Deathborne, the Princia thing is weird. I, for some reason, started seeing her in this game :p I didn't want her, just... started seeing her. And then I thought about it, looked it up, and was like "holy crap, she would be awesome." So I'll make a topic once I get on it. For some reason, she just seems like the PERFECT F-Zero addition, dontcha think?

Interstingly enough, that's kind of the same reason I want her now... I didn't even consider her until I saw your banner - then the wheels in my head started turning and then BAM! Now she's pushed her way to my top ten.

Back on topic: I'd appreciate any more ideas anyone's willing to thow out regarding a moveset for Bubbles.

For her up B she could swing around a pole thingy twice and then let go hurling her in the direction you hold (a la Fox)

And I like Tom Nook...

How did Tom Nook get into this conversation? - though I don't think he's the best candidate for a SSBB roster spot... I mean you might as well suggest the shop keeper from Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - now that's someone you DON'T want to mess with...

Back on topic: Um... I guess this post really just serves as a bump...

EDIT: Alright, I did make a brief mention of him with my Balloon Fighter debate with Iggy K. Oh well...

What are you talking about? His Down B "Buy somethin will ya?" attack is DEVASTATING. It totally breaks up Marth's chain grab combo, and ****s up JPuff's wall of pain something FIERCE.
