Sorry if this has come up before, but how many fox players use claw grip? Or what I think is called claw grip (using index to jump). I personally don't use it, but I've recently met a few people who do and I feel that not only spacies but many characters would benefit largely with the instant C-stick access with thumb, though wavedashing with middle finger is wtf status lol

i tried it for a while.

its too hard/uncomfortable to shorthop with my nonthumb fingers, and jc grabs were really annoying 2do.

i figured out i could get all the benefits of claw by integrating control stick jumps into my game.

analog jumping feels the wierdest to me, but yeah I guess probably way way easier than switching grips. But theoretically it seems to be the most efficient, any people at the high level play with this grip?

yea the claw has been around for a while and imo it causes more problems than it solves.
the claw makes easy At's more hard, and hard AT's more easy lol.

but yea, like soap said, if you can learn to intergrate joystick jumping for certain AT's, it makes things way easier.

I agree with PBnJ, it is about preference. I use claw in specific situations to make it easier to perform a technique. For example, to illusion stall with Fox/Falco, to do random things like reverse shine shdls, to double fair from the edge with Marth...

Those things require excellent timing and precision. Its not impossible to do everything holding the controller in the traditional way, but it would help a lot if you tried to use claw at least a tiny bit.

thanks for reminding me i never bothered to ever try practicing but imma try the illusion stall for an hour right now.
don't do it. people can grab in between illusions to kill you. my friend has lost money matches and tournaments with illusion stalling.

I can double f-air with Marth from the edge without using the claw. I think it comes down to personal preference. I've tried it, and it's pretty effective once you get the hang of things, but it just doesn't feel comfortable for me. I also have small hands, so the claw feels like I'm stretching my fingers.

As far as illusion stalling goes, I've never actually tried it using the claw. I just use the c-stick to let go of the edge, quickly press forward and alternate my thumb from the c-stick to b. Works most of the time, or whenever I try to do it.

I don't think so. Falco doesn't have that nice little sweetspot fox has that lets him drop just slightly. Falco just...falls.
