The rivalry in the speculative community between Isaac and Shulk is truly interesting.

They literally got the same rating (in want) on the RTC thread. That's insane precision.
So, naturally, we are all inclined to pick sides. It is basically a matter of old vs. new. In my opinion, considering the nature of this game, I think new will will, if at all.
How about neither? I don't see either of them as likely or needed in any sense. They are two blonde guys with swords and magic. Big whoop. Their franchises aren't that big either, nor popular, just to a small amount of people. It's not that I don't like them, it's that I don't see them as necessary or important to Nintendo at all, they aren't retro, so why include them?

I think you're severely understating their significance. Of course neither of them are that important to Nintendo - no one but Mario and Pikachu are. So that is a poor argument.

Why include them? How about because they are popular and unique? Two things that clearly are important factors? Don't forget that these two characters are some of the most requested characters for this game.

I kind of agree.

They shouldn't add a ton of minor miscellaneous characters when we're still missing all-stars like K. Rool and Ridley.

The roster.

The only rep from a single-game franchise is Ice Climbers. There has never been a character included in Smash Bros. from a recent stand-alone game. Not that I think it's a rule, but going by past inclusions, Shulk seems unlikely.

I do love Xenoblade, though.
You'd think Ice Climber alone would of been enough to say that there isn't any single game stigma, but apparently that doesn't count because of retro double standards.

They... aren't really unique. I own Golden Sun for GBA and have rented Xenoblade, got about 3/4 through, and they didn't do anything other RPG heroes can do that are cooler, or anything that wouldn't be a hodge-podge of other Smashers. Especially Shulk. At least Isaac has Move to work with.

I've never played Xenoblade or Golden Sun, so I have literally no idea what you are talking about.

Question:

(for the Gematsu/Sal Believers)

If Mii or Pacman aint announced at E3
Would you count the leak being fake?

Tbh if these 2 particular characters aint announced at E3 i would be on the fence......not so much i guess about Mii but more Pacman.

E3 is gonna make or brake alot of things...
Gematsu and Ridley.....gonna be BaD......real bad.....

I kinda assume the first part of the leak is true; 4 out of 6 correct guesses is pretty slim odds.
If Pac-Man isn't revealed at E3 I won't expect to see him at all.

If Pac-Man and Mii are shown at E3, the first half of the leak is obviously true (and obviously leaked, 6 out of 6 can't be a coincidence).
I'm not going to give the second half of the leak any notice unless I see Shulk or Chorus Men.

I do hope it's true, though. Those are some diverse and interesting characters, even if they aren't necessarily all fan favourites (especially Chorus Men).
But muh Ridley....

I'd be fine with Shulk so long as they could make unique and interesting. Unfortunately I've never played Xenoblade, but I'm a big fan of his character model.

Would anyone who's played Xenoblade be kind enough to give me a quick rundown of what could make Shulk unique as a sword user?

Thank you in advance.

New Punch Out boxers for...SSB5? :troll:
I'll give a list of my top 5 :

5.King Hippo : He's at the bottom of the list because, well,I can't figure out his whole moveset. Particularly, his recovery. He does seem like a good character, however, being in 3/5 official games.

4.Disco Kid : I love this guy,to be honest. He could use his rhythm to put a certain tempo on his speed and movement, and can use some of his disco moves like Disco Flurry to combo his enemies. If he was in smash,I would expect his recovery to be "WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I am fab-u-lous :troll: ." However, downside is,he's only been in 1/5 official games.

3.Aran Ryan : He is an Irish stubborn person. He likes to cheat, alot. He can use his swift movement and cheats to K.O. his opponents. He can use Headbutt,he can swing his rope/whip glove filled with horseshoes, whatever you want.Being in 2/5 of the official games, however,he is in the middle of the list mainly because of his uniqueness.

2.Great Tiger : The mystic Indian appears into battle. Much like Ryan,he is unique in his own way, magic. He can use his glowing gemstones to shine when he punches. What? It's pretty. He is a sort-of floaty fighter however. He can send doubles after the fighter, much like Substitute or Counter. His final smash would be his special move in Punch Out! Wii. This time, however, the clones don't stop to punch, they just keep going. The whirlwind can draw in opponents, and hit people on ledges. His rep is good, being in 3/5 official games

1.SUPER. MACHO. MAN. : This 27 year old (27? Bull****.) Californian is a force to be messed with. He usually holds the title of a bout, being the champion of the world in Punch Out! 2 in the arcades. He didn't show much, until Punch Out! Wii. He started moves like Hang Ten,Release the-BOGUS!,and finally, his signature move, the Macho Man. These moves can be uses, maybe in his specials somehow. His final smash? You know how in Punch Out! Wii in contender mode,he would flash his armpits, and a flash (persumeably cameras) came out? Well, use that, and enemies near him left and right get flashed, and get stunned, leaving a chance for an attack. His reps are high as well, being in 4/5 official games.

What did you think? For an additional challenge, can you find the Pokemon reference?

You are, however, implying that all of those who would like the Chorus Kids are sycophants, which is worse. I, for one, have wanted a rhythm fighter in Smash for a long time, but never knew of a suitable character for it (Tempo may have worked, but GameFreak may have been hard to work with).

Just because people like something that you don't doesn't make them sycophants.
Oh no, you misunderstood my post. I for one actually came to like Chorus Men.
I don't mind anyone who liked the Chorus Kids, I actually respect the fact that they support underrated franchises like that.
I just mind that people would act like they thought of the idea all along.
I apologize for the factI worded my post to the point that it offended you in anyway.

You know what I hate? People calling rosters "safe" at this point in time.

If you had Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Rosalina, Greninja, or Chorus Men on your roster last year it would be anything but safe.
So it's a bit of a moot point now since the current roster would have been a very strange roster last year.

Well, with all the detailed and hard to debunk leaks like the Palutena one or the Reggie leak we saw yesterday (and Gemastu),it's kind of cornered.

Hmm, I agree.

Though I'll admit that I'd be a hypocrite since I've called a roster safe (I think it was @False Sense 's roster), completely ignoring all the confirmed characters and just looking at the newcomers they think would be in the game.

Though, it wouldn't hurt if there was another shock character like Dillon, Wonder Red which both could of been great additions.

So much hate on smashboards. Who do you guys think has the most animosity directed towards them in general (I don't mean who is the least popular, I mean who is the most commonly hated upon)?
-Chrom
-Miis
-Bandana Dee
-Ridley
-Tingle
-Chorus Men
I think Tingle has the worst love:hate ratio of them all. But since he doesn't come up very much in discussions, I'd say Chrom and Miis. That's why I specifically made that comment about them earlier. Ridley is very loved here. But is probably Miiverse's most hated character. And Bandana Dee has a random fanbase here, but I've never seen him brought up anywhere else except maybe up to five times. Pretty obscure pick on other sites from what I've seen. And Chorus Men seem to usually get the reaction "meh, that could be interesting I guess"
Krystal usually gets hate here too.
Edit: Sometimes Pac-Man too

Probably Miis, honestly. I also personally dislike the idea of their inclusion, however I've never really thought as to why before. I think the best way I can explain it is that I don't care for the idea of some vague "character" taking a place. They don't have a consistent face, a consistent personality (or lack thereof, in Nintendo's case.) They're just some stupid fanservice. If Nintendo is best-sellers, they're Twilight-- crap targeted for kids. I like to think myself above crap targeted for kids. (And yet, here I am debating characters on an online forum at noon on a Tuesday. I may need to rethink my priorities.)

The other character I see get a lot of flack is Chrom, but that explanation is a bit more obvious. Yet another morally upstanding blue haired swordsman, running around winning fights and spewing the word justice like it's his motto. Which, evidently, it is. He's just boring, predictable. YAWN.

The thing is, though, choosing Fire Emblem newcomers has a lot of problems attributed to it. You want to add characters who are relevant to their respective games, but that's already incredibly limiting-- over half of them are just sword-wielding lordlings. And most of that group have very similar personalities, the only one I've seen yet whose is notably different is Ike; and that can be attributed to being one of the only protagonists who wasn't royalty before the game even started.

The natural thought here is that Fire Emblem has a massive array of characters to choose from, all with distinct and, some moreso than others, entertaining personalities. But, by choosing somebody like Tharja, for a common example, you run the risk of picking a character half the people who even played the game might not even remember. At least Chrom is forced to be used in every story-based battle, and has huge relevance to the plot.

The best solution, I think, is Anna. Not only has she been shown to have a much higher capacity than simply a sword-wielder, but she's been the face for that series for ages, and would bring another female fighter to the ring. But the realistic solution, and the one people expect despite an abundant supply of arguably more interesting characters, is the one character people will be expected to know, Chrom. Which is just another problem, now that I think of it-- most people don't typically pick the "Chrom" of a story as their favourite character. Hell, whose favourite character is Harry Potter, or Frodo? Few people. Most people find the quirky side-characters more entertaining, which is, I'm sure, true in this case as well, given the variety to choose from.

Chrom has so little in his favour, and yet it's all he needs to be picked. History proves it. And people will hold it against him.

I totally agree, but i'm pretty sure there's so much debate about Chrom, mostly because a lot of people (me included) believe that Chrom is shoe-in...:drshrug: also... let me point out why the other characters are "hated"

-Ridley, well... a lot of people love him, but a lot of people just think that it won't happen, he won't be playable, is not that they hate Ridley (lol i was going to write Hitler :drfacepalm:), is just that they get annoyed by those that believe that he have a chance, and for those that don't think that, is just... annoying :drsad: (no i don't think is annoying, i actually want Ridley in, but i have my doubts)

-Bandana Dee..., most people don't talk about him, for those that don't play Kirby, he's just a generic character and for those that play Kirby he's a character that should be in the game, but now that we have Dee as mobs, most people just... don't think he will be playable even if they like the idea :dr-_-:

-Tingle, I HATE HIM! NO NO! NOOOOOO!!!!:drflip:, oks... well, most people don't talk about him or he is easily removed of the ecuation because he have a big hate-base in the west (he's pretty popular in Japan):drifloon:

Hey, several pages back, i know, but SERIOUSLY?

Magic and Witchcraft. So standard.

Not like SUOOOOOARDS!!!!!

Come on now.
Well if a sword character was in Warioware, sure.

But Ashely is seriously the most boring choice out of all possible Wario characters.

And then swordplay is a real thing that covers so many styles. People look at a character who has a sword and be like "lol he'll play the same" which seriously annoys the **** out of me.

Yeah, I've said it before. If Pac-Man isn't shown this E3, I'll pretty much doubt his inclusion at all.

It's amazing how much certainty some put behind their picks, after a main character boxer that made the roster in the 4th entry and darkhorses like Ice Climbers I learned that Sakurai can and will do whatever he wants, this is the same man that claims to love uniqueness when clones are one of the very few things disliked in the series.

Captain Syrup would be my Wario pick.
But if we're being specific for a WarioWare character- I would pick Ashley. And now that she's gone- Mona.

...I really wouldn't mind the Kat and Ana assist trophy getting removed for these 3 :p (I doubt a 2nd playable Wario character)

We also get a Wario Land character in Syrup, while Wario keeps his Warioware style. Make her playstyle around manipulation of enemies, kinda like DeDeDe's B in Brawl but expand on it to make it shape her playstyle since that's what Wario Land is all about.
