Eh, I don't care if Chrom gets in or not, but he does seem to be the most likely candidate for a Fire Emblem newcomer.

Who's going to bet that we're going to see a newcomer that wasn't leaked by Sal Romano?

I'm 50/50 on this. We have seen plenty of newcomers (twelve is a lot if you go by the Gematsu leak) and Sakurai is focusing more on fixing up veterans than ever. However, Sal Romano did not leak Rosalina and never claimed to know the entire roster so I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few more that we haven't heard about. Keep in mind that Melee veterans are unaffected by the leak.

I know they have fans. I'm specifically referring to a group of people who lament and condemn people for including anything other the norm on their rosters. You can't tell me you don't know what I'm talking about, we all see this everyday.

This kind of hostility and indirect accusation/patronizing is another thing that really upsets me in this community. I am the last person to "shove [my] opinions down other people's throats". It really upsets me that a mod would say that.

I am not saying Chrom and Miis don't have fans, I'm saying that the speculative community here, overall, dreads their appearance yet shuns those who don't put them on their predictions.

I was just calling it as I saw it, is all. While I don't exactly think of you as the type to use your opinion as fact, the post didn't really help see that, if you know what I mean.

Sorry I quietly went off like that, but it does upset me.

Besides, you probably didn't see what I mean because it was context sensitive. I was specifically responding to a user who knew what I meant because s/he has the same stance (on this subject) as me.

If we're making prediction rosters, it would make sense to include Miis. They are pretty likely to be included.

I can understand why people would omit them from fan rosters, though. Still, they're an important part of Nintendo history now, with an abundance of games top draw moveset inspiration from; I don't know why some people don't think they're appropriate for Smash.

As for Chrom, his inclusion is up in the air; I think the third FE rep has a good chance of being female.

I love Shulk, but honestly, if he isn't in X I'm not sure he deserves a spot over similar characters like Isaac. There's a lot of overlooked Nintendo franchises, and Shulk is a bit too much of a one-off newbie.

Nothing to say except that he's practically guaranteed, leak or not. He has a lot going for him, and that's coming from someone who's never touched a copy of Xenoblade.

As someone who HAS played Xenoblade and loved every minute of it, the possibility of Shulk + Smash makes me moist.

Though all of the moveset potential has been discussed to death in the Shulk thread, and Sakurai is probably going to go with something totally different for him if he's in, so yeah...

I don't know if there's anything to substantiate the idea that Miis are unlikely. Miis are like a secondary mascot by now, I would be utterly baffled if they weren't playable. You can play as them in Mario Kart! They have nothing to do with the Mario franchise. They have everything to do with a representative cast of Nintendo all-stars.

Also, Robin would be my pick of FE newcomer (as a WYVERN RIDER).

Miis are the only things (I refuse to call them characters) I am 100% certain will not ever be playable, and that is because they are a second mascot to Nintendo. Think about it this way; do you know risky it was to put Mario and Pikachu in a game where they can be slashed and beat down in so many unique ways, and actually act as if they are actually hurt? Now consider that risk, but multiplied by 1000%. Miis, so far, have only appeared in games where they leisurely play sports and party games (and Mario). You think Nintendo wants to deal with the complaining people will do when they allow someone's kid or Obama to be beat up like that in one of their games?

If Sakurai didn't want to include Villager because he is too peaceful, Miis are much worse.

edit: Plus, Miis are only included in non-Mii games (Mario games) if they are easy to implement. Miis would not be easy to implement in Smash, and considering the risk/reward factor here, I doubt they would expend the effort to include them over other much more requested characters.

Chrom is by far the most hated upon. I see very few actual supporters for him anymore, now it's almost entirely people who want some other FE character. Miis are a close second, but everyone has them in their signatures and are convinced they are in (thanks to leaks, it seems).

Chorus Men were pretty much made to be hated by the speculative community, though. Those other examples are divided, at worst.

Haha, that's funny, I do find his name unflattering as well.

I can tell you this. Well, he's the star of Xenoblade, which was a really popular and well-received game. Interesting, the game was supposed to never be brought to the US, but thanks to the efforts of a fan organization it was brought over, which is a first as Nintendo (specifically, Iwata, unsurprisingly) never listens to petitions. So it has a little bit of historical significance for that.

Shulk himself is apparently pretty popular too, as he's highly requested in a lot of places, which is a good thing for his chances in and of itself. Now I can't talk uniqueness in regards to Shulk, but I assume he's pretty unique because everyone says so.

Supposedly, he is also appearing in X, the sequel (?) to Xenoblade that Nintendo is supposedly putting a lot of stock into.

Overall, him being "practically guaranteed" is just my stance, but he truly has a lot in his favour.

If I make "baseless claims" I explicitly state that I am doing so. That was the entire point I was making before and during our argument. I said that I personally think that they will never happen. I didn't say that they wouldn't - no one can know that. I said that I strongly believe they would not. However, you misconstrued what I meant into thinking I was doing exactly what I had just said I never have done when talking to Opossum.

If I sounded subjective, it's because I partially was. But I expected you to know that, which clearly you did not.

The roster.

The only rep from a single-game franchise is Ice Climbers. There has never been a character included in Smash Bros. from a recent stand-alone game. Not that I think it's a rule, but going by past inclusions, Shulk seems unlikely.

I do love Xenoblade, though.

They literally got the same rating (in want) on the RTC thread. That's insane precision.
So, naturally, we are all inclined to pick sides. It is basically a matter of old vs. new. In my opinion, considering the nature of this game, I think new will will, if at all.
