I always thought Rosalina was probably a distant ancestor of Peach... like Rosalina's parents were left behind in the Mushroom Kingdom because Rosalina left them to find the baby Luma's mother... and Rosalina pretty much became immortal since she travels at the speed of light so she barely aged since she left the Mushroom Kingdom at least 100 years ago... meanwhile Rosalina's parents had other children and those children had children of their own and so on for generations and then finally Peach is born.
Rosalina was originally going to be Peach's sister or something, and a princess, when she was a minor character, but they scrapped those ideas when they realised that introducing a new character as a relative to another, long standing character like that, means a lot of holes are created and they have to explain them, and it just over complicates things. Bowser Jr's fiasco in Sunshine probably contributed to that realisation, I reckon.
It did though. Just google Metroid Prime storytelling. There are tons of articles praising it.
Popularising it =/= "having a ton of articles praising it". It didn't influence other games or anything on a regular basis, or set a new standard. Rosalina's storybook did though. It's one of the many innovations in Galaxy.
Yes, but there's even more that are completely optional.
The real depth is in places you have to choose to go to.
Plenty of games have that though.
Galaxy doesn't have much of a story outside of everything Rosalina was bringing to the table. You can more or less avoid everything other than the token "Peach gets kidnapped/saved" sequence. That's not plot or story though anyway.

It was something I remembered, cast a seed of doubt in my mind, and it took a quick search to find (This site has a very nice search function, you know). Isn't Rosalina the tallest character in the game or am i crazy?
She's third tallest. Bowser is taller, Ganondorf is second. Smash reduces her size though. She's a little taller than OoT Ganondorf at least, canonically.
Rosalina can change size at will though. In a way, she doesn't have a defined size, but Galaxy is considered the base/canon size.
