"Disappeared on October 13, 2008, when the fifteen-year-old boy ran away from his home in Barrie, Ontario, Canada after his parents took away his Xbox 360 due to falling grades and excessive play of Call of Duty 4..He was last seen alive on a bicycle trail. His body was found weeks later, about 3 miles away, by a party of hunters. An autopsy determined that he died of a fall from a tree."

See how easy it is to blame video games when someone dies?

EDIT: I was debating on if this should go in the PRoom or the Light House. Mods feel free to move this to the appropriate forum that you see fit.

So, they are blaming video games for causing someone to run away from home?

Why don't I blame ponies for causing little girls to run away from home?

Incidently, how good are the ratings for the show?

Most of the people that commented didn't seem like they would watch the video clip, some saying that it would make them too angry.

What people seem to ignore is the fact that most of those kids either have:

1. Mental problems unrelated to games.

2. Other home issues

Maybe he had a lot of arguments with his parents or had a disease? No, we won't find out because games are an easy scapegoat.

I started reading about this and watching the video and literally uttered "Oh, screw this..."

This is so biased it's not even funny. What a load of crap.

Little kids run away all the time -- or threaten to/start to -- because their parents do things they don't like. OH MY GOD GUISE, PARENTS ARE DANGEROUS!!! They should be eliminating parents!! If you still have one, LOOK OUT FOR YOUR BLOOD!!

[/epic sarcasm]

They're so full of **** it's coming out of their ears.

"Had they known that the son they'd raised to be adventurous and athletic, to be a good student, would one day become obsessed with video games, they might never have brought that gaming console home as a Christmas present."

Replace the word "obsessed" with "addicted, " with video games" with "to drugs" and "brought that gaming console home as a Christmas present" with "let him hang out with that group of friends" and...wow. That's ridiculous.

Last time I checked I managed to go through life a good student despite playing video games since I was rather young...

I watched this entire report when it was originally posted on Kotaku. It was so unprofessional, it wasn't even funny.

They didn't even bother to do research on game ratings. They didn't even bother to do research on the games they were talking about (they refered to Spartans from Halo as 'robots'). Worse then, they didn't even mention that all modern consoles have parental controls!

Ridiculous.

Also, the parents were pretty stupid. They did less research than Fifth Estate did! You can turn on the parental controls to prevent your child from playing this game. AND you should've taken it away the moment addiction started to show.

It's how the media is.

World demographics
99.8% normal
0.01% Jonas Brothers
0.01% psychos

Media coverage
70% Jonas Brothers
29% Psychos
1% Normal

Then when psychos do something dangerous/kill people, people blame video games.

If The Waterboy's mother had to comment she would say "Bobby, video games are the devil!"
