Er...didn't he just ask if it was good as a stand-alone game, i.e. not a Star Fox game?
As said: From what I have read and seen from the originally intended game, it looked good. Star Fox Adventures as a standalone game - not really thinking of the series - is a bad game. Certainly not awful, but it definitely isn't good either.
On the topic of Star Fox Adventures: I thought it was a good spin-off. Granted, I doubt anyone will take my opinion seriously since it was the second game I played, after Assault, but it really wasn't as awful as it's made out to be, I don't think.
I played the both other games beforehand, and I wouldn't have minded a change of pace, even in a tribal setting such as Adventures had, if it were executed well. If you change the gameplay of a liked series, you always have to do it well. Adventures was by no means a horrible game, but it would've had so much more potential without the Star Fox universe pressing on it. I mean, come on... I never hear anyone mentioning the shooting sequences of Adventures because they were just clunky and tedious, and Andross as final boss was a dumb idea too. It just makes no sense. All the Star Fox elements have been put in for the sake of the name, but they were implemented so bad it's awful.
I mean, Star Fox may not really go along with that whole universe of Adventures but Pokemon doesn't really work along with the concept of getting temporary Pokemon and releasing them, every time. Yet the Ranger spin-off was popular enough to merit a sequel. Not to be a jerk, but I think a lot of Star Fox Adventures haters were mostly angry because it wasn't Star Fox 64.
While it may be true for many, I personally am not angry that it's not Star Fox 64. I loved the two games prior to Adventures, and I liked Assault, too. Don't get me wrong, I love some of the most obscure or hated games. I like Castlevania 2 or the CD-i Mario and Zelda games. Don't get me wrong, I don't care much about if a game is a good sequel or not. But Adventures just was a disappointment... not because it's a bad Star Fox game, but because it's a bad game overall. I didn't enjoy it. It was easy, and the Star Fox-elements were dumb. So... without Star Fox, Adventures maybe would've been a decent game.
