Can We Add Lightshielding?

Honestly, who doesn't use the GCN controller? So, is there any chance it could be possible to reinstate lightshielding?

Super Smash Bros Brawl simply does not even RECOGNIZE the analog function of the GC controller. You can't add light shielding as just pressing the shield button lightly because the game has no record of that input to work with.

We'd be able to add it to some other function (like a certain button), but that would probably just make it odd. <_<

I dont see much of a purpose for Light Shielding in B+ really (aside from edgehogging UpBs that end up going slightly over the ledge like Marth's). If it was to be added, it'd have to be button mapped too, but the question is: Is it really needed?

The idea is that since L and R don't register on the controller until the buttons are pressed all the way down, they throw off timing. If lightshielding were added, this problem wouldn't exist.
Adding it to another button really wouldn't help anything.

And yes, Wat indeed. o.o

IIRC The Wii itself won't recognize it unless it is in GC mode.

You people misunderstand his request. He doesn't want Melee style lightshielding (aka, a shield option that is always better than not light shielding). He simply wants to be able to shield without pressing the shoulder buttons all the way down.

Now, why the developers overlooked this, I have no idea, but apparently (as has been said a couple of times already), there's no way to do it. You'd have to physically modify your controller.

The wii itself does recognize it on some other games (for instance, pressing it even slightly in Guilty Gear Accent Core will allow it to register).

But not brawl cause Sakurai is gay <_<

Sakurai is a symbol for Nintendo's integrity with the Smash series. Nintendo, in the opinion of many, destroyed that integrity with Brawl. Sakurai certainly had a hand in it, wanting to make the game simpler and more appealing to a casual audience. In his defense, the game has sold outstandingly and has an impressive tournament scene that sees many people participating who would have never participated in a game as...complex as Melee.

Sakurai was who Nintendo used to promise it'd be a good game at E3 (it's funny, when they announced he'd be directing Brawl, they'd only just agreed on it with him a small bit of time before).

I suppose the best thing to do would be to put shielding on Z, and grab on X or Y (whichever you don't use for jump).

WHERE are people getting it from that the game doesn't recognise analog input??????

seriously have you people seen the game's RAM or something?

the game DOES recognise analog input, it just doesn't DO anything with it.
there are 2 main problems in making lightshielding.

1) it is still not easy to code and me and almas have other things to do.

2) why do people want it so badly? brawl shields are still waaaay better than melee shields due to the fact that there is no shield drop time.

So it did recognize analog input? I thought it didnt because it was one of the things brought up against WDing and Manual L Cancel (that is, one having to push all the way down on L/R to WD/L-cancel).

I've heard countless times that the game simply cannot read the analog input, multiple times from WBR members. So...did they just not know? Because that'd be a bit troubling if it's as obvious as you imply, PK.

Nonetheless, if it does recognize analog input, can we make the analog L/R activate your shield?

Lightshielding is meh, but the lack of any action being taken with the analog shoulder triggers is just irritating. >.>

I was barely ever brought up, and I think I'm the only one that actually knew it, but people keep yelling what is told them.

and I don't really know what would be the use of it other than lightshielding, and we are not gonna put that in.

If the analog input is recognized, can't we simply make it do your normal shield? You know, so the button does something when you push it?

I think they made Brawl's shield have no drop time because the button needs to be pressed all the way in.

I Find This So Irritating At Crutial Moments Too!
There Was A Long Period Where I Only Played Melee And A Different Play Style Grew On Me.
Then I Started Playing Brawl Again And When I Was Knocked Off Stage I Wouldn't Even Air Dodge Because The Muscle Memory Was Still There...

So When I'd Roll Dodge I Wouldn't Press It In Very Far But Brawl Screwed That Over

But What I'm Trying To Say Is Melee Grew On Me
Also Having Worn Out Controllers Doesn't Help... My One Controller I Can Press It In All Of The Way And Then Some And It Won't Respond

Also Lightshielding Was The Best Because It Wouldn't Eat Up Your Shield So Much
