1. Find someone in your area to play ASAP. You won't get better playing level 9s.

2. I would advise you to learn and practice Advanced Techniques. You want to main Marth? That's cool. But you have to realize what you're implying when you say "main". "To main" generally means "To utilize with an especial focus, to the best of one's ability and knowledge, in at least a moderately competitive environment". Take a little time to look up terms such as short-hopping, fast-falling, l-cancelling, edgeguarding, sweet-spotting, wavedashing, dashdancing, and so on. There's a vast amount of useful information available to you on these boards, so just browse through the guides and FAQs and you'll find all you need to know.

Haha, that looks an awful lot like my Marth.

If I have any suggestions..

Try not to up-b as much as you do, it's a pretty chance move that only works on occassion and if you set it up perfectly, not good for standard use. Practice wavedashing a bit, practice grabs, short-hops, l-cancelling, all that jazz.

If you want to practice wavedashing and short-hops, do what I do. Try short-hop Nair, l-cancel, and then right after that, wavedash backwards or forwards (Assuming you already know wavedashing), and try doing that until you get it in one fluent movement. I find that helps for practice.

And of course, practice your *** off, man. No one got really, really good by just playing on and off, you need to put much effort into it if you wanna be good.

my advice is to stop playing against computers. it will make your game terrible for a long long long time.

pick a lvl 1, and just work on movement. set time to unlimited and spend as much time running away from the lvl 1. practice your wave landing and moving right when lag ends. throw a combo out here and there, but really those combos rarely work on humans because of how the computer DIs.

watch what pros do during a break (or at the beginning of one SS vs mango vids they just sit there warming up) and practice til you can do that in a match without trying very hard.

I could only watch the first 1 and a half minutes.. so much jab ._.

Don't jab so much. The move's best uses are if you use 1 hit for spacing or if you're going through someone's UpB at the edge. Learn autograb combos like Fthrow -> Fthrow/Uthrow at 0%. PLAY HUMANS. That is the only thing that is going to get you to play smarter. Then play level 1 CPUs to work on tech skill.

I really can't help you that much until you start playing humans

1. practice ur basic things, shfl, dash dancing etc.
2. Try not to play comps find some real foulks to play...and if it comes to it dont play lvl 9 comps. stay on lvl 1 if anything id say and practice basic things
3. in the video u were to straight forward, run to grab/dash attack, or ud jump straight at the comp and attack with an aerial, this is not effective do more dashdancing and/or wave dashing to bait your opponent that way u can attack or grab easier

I just watched your video. If you want my 2 cents, then about short hopping. Go to practice mode, pick fox, and practice that about 9,001 times. You may not get it perfect, but If you can short hop so-so with fox you will be able to short hop well with marth. Now at 3:47 in your video, this would be the ideal time to edgehog, and I would recommend either jumping backwards or wavedashing backwards to the edge, it will help you a lot

Why do you care, stalker? Don't make me sic the po
OK, I used to play a lot like you. Try short hopping. I couldn't get it at first, but what seemed easiest to me was putting the middle of my thumb (right at the joint) on x, and then sliding it off to the right very quickly while applying a little pressure. This way, your thumb isn't doing an amazingly fast flick which is tough until you get used to it, but instead one easy motion.

If you want to play against bots, then never play another level 9 again. EVER. They give a very bad representation of an opponent: someone with no mindgames or inventiveness but insane DI and ability to get out of comboes. Most people are the exact opposite. Play against, at the very very highest, lvl 4's. And that should only be to get the timing down for your short hopped, lcanceled aerials.

If you want to get good at smash, you'll need a human. Plain and simple. You can have perfect technical skill, but once you go against a human mindgames and the simple performance reducing pressure comes into play. For example, I can pretty much perfectly waveshine with my Falco against bots, but against a human? I airdodge all over the place, and sometimes forget to jump. Long story short? Recruit someone. Check the boards for your region to find a good smasher.

dont just train on the advanced techs untill they are perfect.
do them perfectly untill it becomes mucsle memory-untill you can do it without thinking-without looking.

practice makes perfect, but perfect practice makes effortless perfect.

also find actual people to play. im sure your friends would want to learn with you. ^-^
