Our BtT thread had yet to be carried over here so I figured I would. This thread is for discussing break the targets lvl 1-5. tips, advice, fastest routes would be awesome and that kind of stuff. I will also try to use this as a Smashboards PM 2.5 BtT speed records thread. I'll have all the characters listed, each lvl of BtT and then their best run with whichever user had the fastest time. Videos WILL be needed as proof, You don't have to have a tag in the video, but it is highly recommended. When you post for a speed record please use the following format.

Player Name
Character used
Break the Target Lvl, 1, 2, or 3 etc
Time
Video

Lastly, if I miss your post and it doesn't get posted in the original post PM me with the format above.

That would be really cool, I'm sure the team would like to but atm I think they're trying to get all the character finished so they can begin the global balancing process. I love your idea, I'd have so much fun with it.

Yeah, I would love to see custom target tests for every character as well-- I thought it was awesome how nearly every stage was specifically tailored to each character's specific moveset and skills. Imagine if that and race to the finish made it into the game's 1P mode. :awesome:

I'll have the vids up when I can find a recording setup, but I had:

9.80 on BTT lvl 1 with Falco
and
a sub-16 on BTT lvl 5 with Sonic.

Point a camera at the TV? That's what I'm going to do when I beat the Falco one

Edit: ;) lol I missed an L-cancel (but the 2nd bair was Autocanceled)

Crap I forgot to add the "Yeah", does it still count roymaster?

Doing this seems to kill your Wii/Wii laser reader though with the reloading tries lol, this is fun but I might have to stop until I get USB loaded P:M.

My thoughts on the Falco one if you want to beat mine (shouldn't be that hard), I totally whiffed the ending portion, meaning you could probably try to hit both of those targets that I baired with a single Fair/Bair, and if that doesn't work go with nair/upair each since it has the shortest L-cancel time as well as lower damage meaning less hitlag frame waste(you should totally be able to Fair both though, or laser'em). I also could have wavelanded to get on the platform at the end to jump sooner (or double jump past the platform and do a WJ Bair off the block thing that'd be sweet lol).

Juushichi did you shoot the target on the left and go right or did you do what I did?

Also for lvl1 I got 11:38 for CF and 12:98 for Ike, I'll post videos if you guys have trouble beating those

Not bad on that Falco run SpiderMad. The illusion to edge cancel was really impressive. Try to wave land when you hop on the platform to get the last target. Have you tried double jumping to get it. Falco should go high enough to get in range for that U-air, which could save you a half second. Also lulz you don't have to add yeah. XD

@Juushichi: Sorry dude, but I can't put your score in the OP till I have proof. If you have an Ipod just use that. I do and it works pretty well for me.

edit: just uploaded some more stuff for you guys to try and beat lol.

I believe that most of the Brawl strategies should still work for level 2 (but faster), so you should be able to get like 4-5 seconds on most of them.

I think the only thing I don't like about BtT in Brawl are the items.

Melee BtT was so much more interesting because you have to make full use of your moveset.

Here, you dont. You just have to abuse items.

That's true, but in melee the stage was made for the character. These aren't so certain things have to be added to help out certain characters.

I'd love it if the PMBR made a custom break the targets maker. They could just replace the stage maker with BtT. We could even recreate the melee versions and then some.

And maybe even stages with no item play and advanced item play. That would be soooooo sick. Maybe even HUGE ****ing BtT stages with a ton of targets for co-op! [/hyperventilate][/j1zz]

I shot the target on the left and went right.

Doing what you did would probably cut out a lot of time like yours did, lol. I'll record them on my iTouch and put them up in the morning.

Sounds good, Juushichi. I look forward to watching your video.

The BtT stages can currently be edited with BrawlBox. Just so you all know. While I would like to edit them and change them, I would be the only one using them and that would defeat the purpose of editing it.

I can't record, the best i could do would be taking screenshots or sharing Brawl replays.

Most optimal Fox strat i've found so far (Lvl 1):

1) Full hop and shoot your laser to hit both targets in front of you (2)
2) Illusion through the little gap to your left, hitting the target there (3)
3) Land on the platform below, do a short hop and shoot with your blaster to hit 2 more targets (5)
4) short hop down and shoot your blaster once again, hitting the 3 targets in front of you, weaving to make sure you land inside the target on the bottom left (8)
5) Do a shine > double jump bair to hit the last 2 targets (10)

I have a record of 05:55 with this strat.

Bowser strat:

1)Turn around and double jump, using your fire breath at the peak of your jump to hit the target behind the wall (1)
2) run to the right, using an Nair on the 1st target, then 2 nairs on the next ones (4)
3)run to the left, fast fall towards the right and Bair the target on the bottom-right of the screen (5)
4) Jump to the V-shaped platform and hit the target in the middle with an Fair (6)
5) Jump to the top of the L-shaped structure, and use your fire breath in mid-air, angling yourself to the left to hit the remaining targets (10)

My record with Bowser so far is 11:30, but i'm sure it can easily be improved due to this being a poor strat.

EDIT: Just got 4:13 with Fox. I could send a Brawl replay if proof is wanted/needed.

Totally agree with the fox start. Haven't tried bowser, I'd love to see your replay of Fox. If it's as good as you say then it beat my record by a full 2 seconds, that's a lot seeing as how I just redid my lvl 1 with Fox. You would hold the record atm if you have the video.

Found an interesting way of doing Sonic Lvl1.
1)go left, spindash through gap hitting target, then jump out of special and wall jump over the ledge performing D-special as you rise(1)
2) spin dash carries you through to the right taking out lower target near stage then jump to take out upper target. (3)
3) Dair to get target below(4)
4) run left and jump then side special which takes out upper bottom target, the target directly under it, and the target to the far upper side (7)
5)Dair to take out lowest target directly bellow you(8)
6) run to the right and jump on the v-shaped plat taking out the target above it with side B, use side B momentum to carry you to the last target and finish with Fair, nair, whatever.

it's a rough run, but I got a time of 9.91 with it.

also I redid my lvl 3 Captain Falcon run with much better results and a nicer ending.

I wasn't sure of which replay had the best record, so i sent the last 3 i recorded.

Stick them in Private > Wii > App > RSBE > rp so that Brawl reads them, and if anyone can upload them to youtube or something, that would be pretty cool.

EDIT: I uploaded some of my records with my camera, the quality is super bad but i think you can observe how the strats work.

Pretty impressive, guys. :V

Makes me want to hold a contest or put these on the front page of Smods. V:

Also, how do you guys feel about removing the items in BTT? :V

what names do you guys want in the OP? Very impressive Fox run now that I see it. For Bowser try using his Bowser Bomb jump cancel to reach the higher targets faster. Very nice Marth run btw. lol We'll do lvl 1 then just move up it seems.

Dron you did a great job with Lucas. I'll update the OP with your results.

I fully support this. I also think that at the very least, stages 2-4 should be redesigned to be more condensed and less gimmicky, I think it would really improve the overall experience. Because right now, I can't bear to mess around with any other TT aside from level 1.

Just simple small changes are are that it would really need. At least for a starting template, after removing all items, what I would do is look around at what is obsolete or tedious with the absence of items. Cut extraneous pieces and re-position targets to accommodate the lack of items. The levels should be simple enough for every character to complete, but they also shouldn't be gigantic and drag on. Melee's target test levels had a small average time frame between each target hit, and that was nice because the order in which to break the targets was much more unclear. Whereas when the distance between each target is greater, it becomes more clear and drags on. More time can be spent actually breaking targets rather than getting to each target.

Random thought: Something like Luigi's Melee target test could be really cool. It's simple and every character can clearly do it without trouble. But based on their abilities, they'll each opt for different paths.

I think that revamped BTT stages would be cool, but I'd much rather the team work on the more important stuff at hand (like characters)

maybe it's something we'll see in the future, but it definitely shouldn't be a priority as of now

A custom BtT maker was mentioned in the first page. That would be a neat thing to try. I prefer certain stages keep their items. It makes the stage interesting. Stages without items tend to be in favor of character that have quick jumps, fall speed, or projectiles. As you can already tell Fox will be able to do BtT lvl1 much faster than any DK ever could.

These are all really awesome, and I could be wrong but I thought we already had custom target tests in brawl.

no, you can technically edit the stages with Brawl Box, but I think you are thinking of custom stage maker. I I don't see why it would be too hard to just replace one of the items in the maker with targets and bam. Custom target tests.

Jorge is the name i would like in front of my vids.

Also, YES PLEASE at removing items in BtT. The only reason i am not doing any other stage other than level 1 is because they're super gimmicky in nature due to items.
