It's a journal, but close enough.

If you can't find any suspense or desire to find out what will come next, essentially not liking the mystery aspect of it, it wouldn't be for you. (though a lot of things have since been explained and revealed as the series has progressed)

I wouldn't personally think it's a messy story, but that's just me.
