heres what i thought about the 00's bassically everything revolved around gangstah preppy and emo mostly emo and gangstah beileave it or not heres all the trends and things i could think of from the noughties/00's:
sagging-
... this is HORRIBLE but it will take a while to go out of style im sure
i <3 boobies wrist bands-
they are cool i never understood why teachers never confinscated them lol?
pink shirts on guys-
no... simply no i remember 03-04 "tough guys wear pink" was a everyday saying but its sorta gay...
emo hair-
most people never noticed it but now guys use straighteners and stuff and brush it to the side like an emo kid would they both do hair flips and only difference is emos cover an eye
rap and r&b-
we forgot what was so magical about rock and metal because the emo kid posers started to listen to it and our rap is not as good as the original 80's 90's rap and thus we forgot about the power of peace and music...
rock... as we know it:
it changed into christian bands bassically... ALL THE VOICES SOUND LIKE BEIBER!!!
silly bands-
everyone wears them in the late 00's "i got a duck and goat"
"cool i got a walrus"
cartoons-
all cartoons turn gross *watch flapjack for example* and the only cool cartoons are adult swim animes which everyone have been blinded by peers to thinking they suck and south park and family guy
shoelace belt-
skaters do it... so much
carrying a comb-
all guys tryd being clean *looks at 90's* haha what a change
clorful wrist bands-
every girl wore them till they realized the punishments of having another person break them in the early 00's
gators-
i personally never liked them but mid 00's they were all around
heelies-
early 00's *just getting outta the rollor blade phase of the 90's* EVERY kid had a pair and went threw stores and for a while schools haha

you guys add some!!!

An annoying, more recent trend in my general area, children will actually leave the tags on their pants. Not sure if this was popular in the past or anywhere else, but I see it a lot on freshmen.

This can stay open as long as actual discussion happens and people aren't just arbitrarily adding things to the list :)

There is so much good music out nowadays, you people are nuts or just misinformed.

And dude LASHING_LEAF, the way you type makes me want to skip over all of your posts. I imagine I'm not the only one. Your OP is nearly unreadable.

In England there was a trend with the yoot called happy slapping.

Basically someone would record on their phone as someone slaps an unsuspecting victim (stranger for best effect).

Also, I think my favourite trend is insincere yet overzealous tolerance. People who know me know that that I despise bull**** over anything else. I actually admire honesty, which is why I don't really mind openly prejudiced people.

Twilights amazing get out of here. You clearly don't understand the deep, intellectual meaning Stephanie Meyer was going for pshhh

on a serious note..wearing pink isn't gay.

And on hats. Nothing like doing something to be "cool" because you saw it on TV.

Sadly, I think fashion was generally better than it was in the last few generations. Mainstream music was for the most part considerably worse, but the mainstream doesn't have the same impact as it always did.. Which is good. A lot of good music has come out this decade, especially in the first half. I don't think there was really any "Nirvana" figure of the 2000's though.

...And "gangsta rap" is somehow still popular. :ohwell:

Civil rights are progressing and regressing rapidly at the same time. Corporations are more powerful than ever, and politics are partisan. The mainstream media is becoming less and relevant as time goes on, and they're trying to combat it by... Not covering news nearly as well.

/Americentric viewpoint.

The religious right, the conservative republicans who stated their platform as religious virtues. Think about the 2004 elections, Huckabee, Glen Beck, hell even the election of George Bush himself. The religious movement picked up real steam in the 2000s, and its come to define the modern day republican party in many ways.

The religious right sparks up every once in a while, but every generation seems to be getting less and less religious. In modern America, Atheists are still the least liked minority in America (pdf) but I doubt they'll be quite as distrusted in the next twenty years. Right now, the Pacific Northwest is about the only area in the nation you can decently get around professionally while being Atheist.

In my opinion, it's far detrimental that one cannot criticize their country without being accused of hating it. Politics is a perpetual "shift the blame" game, and those who will openly state their distaste for some of America's shortcomings often end up getting blamed for everything.

Tomo - The religious right perked up in the Reagan era. They've not actually become much more Christian since then, just dogmatic and strict in their "free-market" (give rich people more money) beliefs.

Trust me, I know my hip hop. If you think all of it is about drugs sex and money, even now, then you're looking in the wrong places. You're thinking of mainstream.

Ok lashing, the way you type is getting me annoyed. Could you at least CAPITALIZE words at teh beginning of your sentence and not words that are midway your sentence? Maybe then I can actually go through one of your posts and not feel the need to skip it

First of all, I don't mind pink shirts. I also think Anime is awesome (The actual Japanese Anime, not the American animation).

There is only one guy that I've seen carry around a comb, and he also had a fro. He would just stick it in his hair and leave it there, because it wouldn't fall out, lol. That guy was so funny.

alot of the past has reflected into the 00's for example:
40's: girls type of make-up
50's: guys with back up combs to stay nice
60's: long hair on guys
70's: dancing
80's: skinny jeans
90's: ripped up jeans

so yeah if you make a reference thats fine just stop spamming

There is a lot of great rap from the 2000s. If you think it's all "sex drugs and money" you are very ignorant of the denizens of conscious rappers, abstract rappers, etc.

Soulja Boy is not at ALL representative of hip-hop in the 2000s. He isn't even representative of mainstream hip-hop. He has one song that is insanely popular but he's basically a gimmick.

The mainstream hip hop artists that I think are more representative of the decade would be

Kanye West (sure, he raps about having money and clothes but he also has a lot of sincere emotion)
Lil Wayne
Eminem
Jay Z
Kid Cudi
Gucci Mane
3 6 Mafia
Outkast (early 2000s)
