What does she like?
Don't hate. Power is like Thrash but with non-generic instrumentals.
Except that Thrash >>>>> Power.
My sister doesn't even like Metal. Thinks Thrash is boring. Listens to Linkin Park, Disturbed and other crap like that.

I like Radiohead

But the best band ever would have to be the Beatles, that's not even a competition
But so many bands sound better and are more interesting.

These band are not anywhere close to Power Metal. At all.
I think yo may be ill informed.

Sorry, but when I think of this, I usually don't think of THIS

I was more referring to the progressive sound of the instrumentals, even moreso the drums.

Dream Theater is probably one of the best "modern" bands, if not the best.

However, they are not the best band ever. The best band ever is certainly Aerosmith. And yes, they have done more for the music industry than the Beatles; in fact, you can actually HEAR Aerosmith in rock from all eras since they became popular, which you can't say for the Beatles (unless you're talking about pop music, but really, who cares about that crap?)

@Symphony X: I'm pretty sure that NebZ wasn't comparing them to Power Metal, just giving a list of really crappy bands that show that his sister doesn't listen to metal. Although, I don't see how your sister listening to Disturbed is so horribly bad; sure, they aren't great, but at least YOUR sister doesn't listen to Panic at the Disco and Fall Out Boy. T_T

In/Casino/Out is better than Relationship of Command.

I don't care which one has One-Armed Scissor (which is a great song), In/Casino/Out is the better album as a whole.

In casino out is my favorite too.

Relationship of Command is the one with One-Armed Scissor I think.

Both Kamelot and Nightwish I'd dub symphonic power, and for Sonata Arctica I'd give them power with symphonic elements.

But in no way would I consider them "not metal." Sure they don't have an abundance of four minute double-bass high-pitch-vocal songs about dragons and orcs ( >_> ) but I would still consider them power metal.

I find Kamelot is more into Ghosts. And they stay way far away from double bass.

That's one of the reasons I like Symphony X, their themes aren't generic. Their albums have one common theme. Concept albums, if you will. The Odyssey obviously being about the Odyssey.
V is about Atlantis.
Paradise Lost about the Garden of Eden.
So on and so forth.

I refuse to acknowledge any of them, especially Nightwish, as metal. Seriously, why insult ourselves like that?
An attitude like that insults real metal fans. Metal isn't about just pointlessly heavy music (contrary to popular belief); real metal bands try to produce innovative music, not just blaring nonsense. That is all.

It's just what has to happen. People acknowledge Trivium as metal. That's scary.
Older Trivium is metal as hell. Though the newer album (The Crusade?) is just pure ****.

Though seriously, there are no best bands. Though the best genre is clearly Progressive Metal or Melodic Death Metal ;) (In terms of Metal, obviously can't compare jazz gods like Guthrie Govan to John Petrucci or Michael Romeo)

Can I make a metal thread and take all metal talk there? I think it would help.

Oh, I also nominate myself for best band. I'll post my work in a sec.

He IS a real metal fan. Yes, it isn't just about the music. The trick is to be "innovative" without being gay.

Well I'd argue oldschool In Flames was better than Death, but that's just me.
No. Way. No. Way.
Death is miles ahead of In Flames. Death(along with possessed) CREATED the genre that In Flames is in(before they turned into Metalcore crap).

Those **** posers were never Metal.

On a side note,
C0ck and Ball toture and Torsof*ck are the best Pornogrind bands ever. :p

Can't argue there.

Are there two Michael Romeos? 'Cause the only one I know plays lead guitar for Symphony X, and as far as I know isn't a jazz god.

So how many times have you switched bands NeBz?

As far as metal goes, I'd list my favorite legitimately (power) metal band as Sonata Arctica. I don't listen to a great deal outside of them (some Apocalyptica, a bit of Nightwish) but they'd be the top of that chart.

That aside, I'd say I definitely lean towards alt-rock/punk/indie rock as being the best genre of music, although there'd be no clear cut winner for best band ever. Bad Religion or the Ramones, perhaps, but it's a toss up.

Yeah. This is one of the best opinions in the thread. Graffin is an underrated vocalist/lyricist, and Johnny Ramone is an EXTREMELY underrated and talented guitarist.

I can agree with you about Graffin. And if you look at the stuff the Ramones put out, it's understandable why Johnny never got any recognition. The Ramones guitar is repetitive and overall boring as all get out.

No one made three chords more exciting as the Ramones, and no one ever will again. Sex Pistols tried back then, they sucked. Green Day tried it today, it sucked harder.

The man is a riff machine.

The only bands that come close are the Buzzcocks and the Undertones.

Anyone care to debate against Aerosmith? I always thought of them as the ultimate band. They went through so many singles and so many different sub-genres it's unbelievable.

About 287.986876* 9786/04.0049(87987*5465)-0.0990745 times. Death will and will always be number one for me though.

Technical Death Metal is my favourite genre. Great Guitar, riffs, solos, Technical, brutal, heavy, fast, awesome... etc

I meant that Guthrie Govan was a Jazz God and you couldn't compare him to say, Symphony X's Michael Romeo.

Right. I missed the word "to".

He might be a riff machine, and none others may make the chords more exciting. But that doesn't stop them all from being boring and uninventive.
