Battlefield!! Not Final Destination

I always thought Battlefield was the standard basic stage that best represents the series.
It is the most balanced stage when considering all the character's strengths and weaknesses.

Final Destination always felt too flat, prioritizing characters with horizontal moves since it becomes difficult to deal with those techniques as there are very few options when compared to Battlefield.


I have always been struggling to explain to my smash brothers that FD is not the best stage for a competitive match. BF is always more impartial and fair than Battlefield.
What do you guys think?

There is no single "balanced stage"; every stage favors some characters more than others compared to other stages. That's why it's important to play on a variety of stages, to average that effect out.

Personally I just want For Glory to have both options and it'd be perfect.

That's what I'm getting at. FD gives huge bonuses to characters like Marth, Fox and now Little Mac.
Making matches revolve mainly around them.
BF is more balanced regarding the whole cast, giving the most equal footing possible in the game compared to other stages. Especially FD, which gives something akin to a +5 to all horizontal, ground attacks and/or projectiles.

I can only speak from Melee experience here, but I really do feel like Battlefield is the most neutral stage. Take for instance Marth vs Falcon: Yoshi's is good for Marth but terrible for Falcon, Dreamland is good for Falcon but terrible for Marth, but Battlefield isn't really especially good or bad for either. It's right in the middle.

I hope they actually have different BF skins besides the different FD skins.
I hate playing on FD anyway. Unless I'm fighting Master Hands or Crazy Hand.
Then I prefer them having the advantage.

I loved the idea. I get tired of hearing the same music and seeing the same damn stage whenever people compete.

That would have been hella cool. You know what, they should make two stage packs, "Battlefield Mode" and "Hyrule Temple" mode and release via DLC.

Honestly, I don't even think FD is a neutral stage in Melee and Project M. Fast fallers get chaingrabbed to oblivion there, and certain characters like Samus are much weaker when they don't have a platform. Battlefield and Project M Pokemon Stadium 2 are probably the most neutral stages.

I voted Hyrule Temple just because it's my favorite stage ever.

I really don't know though since I am more casual.

I never liked either, they're too boring, and they're both very matchup sensitive (which I guess is true of all stages).

Voted Temple, but really, I'd probably go with something dynamic like Dracula as the most balanced (though it might need to shrink a bit and actually start appearing in tournaments), since the variability in the platform positioning favors certain characters at certain times, instead of a single character all of the time..

Smashville is probably the best example of a well rounded stage, I think. FD vs. Battlefield is highly situational.

If the character doesn't have good vertical agility or reach, they can't capitalize opponents that land on a platform and suffer as a result against those that do have good vertical agility or reach. Yet on Final Destination, you get a similar problem just on a different axis.

On Smashville, the stage is generally large and flat enough to allow some reliable projectile pressure while providing periodic platform plays for characters that benefit from it more. Also, characters that can't use the platform to recover still usually benefit from the stage being just small enough to use their horizontal qualities break through to another opponent and still account for future platform play. Because it's not as wide as Final Destination, you get more reliable horizontal finisher power too. It's a pretty happy medium.

This is exactly what I wanted and Sakurai gave it to me. I'm personally terrible with maneuvering around platforms but that's just me. I know lots of players prefer Battlefield and I'm cool with that. I'll take my Final Destination Version of Battlefield though <3
