Basic Key to ****

So yesterday, me and my friend were smashing and together we just kind of summed up the basic keys to smash. Keep in mind this is very basic and has its ins and outs.

1. Instead of trying to get every little hit in any time you see your opponent open (say trying to fair with marth any time youre hit and think you can get a fair in to stop the combo), be patient and wait for that hit/grab that you know will setup good for a combo or put you in a really good position.

2. Now, once your opponent is in the setup/bad position, try to keep them in that bad position as long as possible instead of trying to force a death combo, or even a combo in general. The key is to constantly force them to have to make bad/hard decisions. Eventually, the opportunity will arise to go for the kill.

Now, most of you probably already know this, but I just want opinions on what you all think about this. Keep in mind, I'm a marth main and this strategy tends to work really well with marth against most characters. The only character it doesn't really work well against is falco, I believe this to be because of his lasers which don't let you be as patient and get that "setup" hit.

The pokers like puff or samus can disargee at times. It all depends on said case like maybe if You are fishing for a said kill move then chances are that You want to keep them at a percent of intrest. But if You can land the fair I see no reason not too it can have merit in just keeping them back and making them get annoyed by Your wall.

Some match-ups You just need to poke till they can't cc Your main moves or You need them in a spot to get started. When, where, how, why, and which moves are safe. I can f-smash super deep into someones sheild as falco can be perfectly fine if they will break or if I have them near the edge and they'll regrab it. Based on the when and where.

as someone who isn't too great at this game i know a few ways to beat other ****ty peeps

a couple of weeks ago i started playing a bit of samus and i noticed something kinda funny

my friend is around my skill level and is a falcon main who occasionally brings out sheik when he gets frustrated.

so basically i realized the magic of wavedashing backwards out of shield when he comes at me and ftilting so i kinda abused it and i was consistently beating his falcon. basically he wasn't landing solid hits when he tried approaching and he got frustrated and starting playing kinda dumb.

he went sheik and the same happened

tl;dr: wavedash backwards oos when they come at you and hit em and they'll get frustrated and play dumb

no need to go balls deep for a combo if you keep getting free hits that lead to bigger things

Depending on the character, there are a whole bunch of ways to punish out of shield, or to at least put yourself in a good position. At the same time, that OoS option of yours may not work against the shield pressure of some characters. For instance, you might get hit with another attack before you manage to wavedash away (think a spacie's shine or Marth's jab or fair).

Or a lot of times you can just grab, except when your grab takes so long that your opponent has enough time to go get a glass of water.

Well of course every strategy has its time and place. In certain situations it would be smarter to interrupt your opponents combos with a quick fair instead of just trying to DI out of it. It all depends on what type of person youre playing (aggressive, defensive, etc.). You can also switch up when you want to be patient or aggressive, which you must do in order to remain unpredictable. I'm sure we can write pages and pages on how to play high-quality smash, but keep in mind, this is just a "basic" thought and I wanted to hear some opinions.

It really depends on who you are playing, I find a lot of times the safest option (with link) is to get in a few hits from a distance and then gtfo. other times I will see one big hole that will allow me a zero to death.

So basically keep pressing the advantage when you have it.

no no no i mean like wavedash away as they're going towards you

What if they read this and intentionally overshoot?
It's not a bad tactic, but don't forget to mix up.

Am I the only one who found the thread title hilarious? Considering that the discussion about using the word "****" just happened.

Seriously, the debate was getting HEATED. People against usage of the word were gaining ground. The arguments were fierce. The opposition started to lose hope...

When all of a sudden, "Basic Key to ****" appeared.

Come ON.
