I need a direct just to know where we stand with leaks and chances and just shed some light on how much is left to show of this game.

Man I hope we get one this month. The wait hasn't even been that long and its torture.

I'm sure they will if the Nintendo Switch is going to be going online this month. Even if it's just a general direct about fall games coming out, I'm sure they'll take time to showcase a newcomer to Smash.

While I think it's highly likely to get a Direct this month, I bet it'll be an unsurprising first party character. Most first party picks now will be unsurprising now that we got Ridley and King K Rool. Bandana Waddle Dee, Skull Kid, a Pokemon. The most surprising out of the bunch would be Isaac. The only thing that could be any indication of the rest of the roster is if it's Incineroar--and then that goes along with further confirming Verge, and therefore Minecraft/Microsoft content.

Sakurai said in an interview with Famitsu that he was looking to the ballot for characters, where Banjo & Kazooie did more than well. Combine that with Microsoft and Nintendo teaming up lately and I think BK is pretty likely on that alone. Just the name "Ultimate" seems to be significant, they really want this to be the ultimate smash game. Considering people have been asking for Banjo & Kazooie since the days of melee, I think their time has come.

...and maybe a certain iconic super soldier could follow them into Smash...

Master Chief from Halo. If they're gonna get access one Microsoft fighter, Banjo & Kazooie, then they should try for THE MS icon as well.
People would lose their **** if they got announced together in a "Play Together" Nintendo x Microsoft DLC pack assuming BK doesn't make the base roster.
Yes I think Halo is colorful and iconic enough to belong, and no I don't think the lack of Nintendo console appearances matters as much nowadays. MC is a gaming icon and it would only benefit both companies to have him in Smash. But I digress, this thread is about the Rare duo.

I still think Joanna Dark would be a much likelier pick, I’m sure Sakurai must have thought of her for Melee.

I will absolutely get a Banjo-Kazooie amiibo. Nintendo would be nuts not to put them in solely for the amount of amiibo they'd sell of them.

Joanna would be cool as well, and I wouldn't be against her.... but between Halo and Perfect Dark there's no question. Halo has had a MUCH bigger impact on gaming and console shooters in particular. The launches of Halo 2 and 3 were the VG equivalent of Star Wars. Not on the same level.

Yeah as much as I may be for Master Chief in Smash, I deffinitely feel Banjo & Kazooie deserve to be among the first, if not THE first MS Fighter.

Joanna Dark is more relevant to Nintendo and Rare FPSs have had just as much (or at least almost as much) significance as Halo (mainly Goldeneye, but James Bond is a movie character first)

Bayo was added because she was presumably a low end popular ballot character, and Bayonetta 1&2's Wii-U ports making her animations, stage graphics. and music easy and quick to rip and paste into Smash with only minor work. Plus the fact they were probably already aware of Bayonetta 3 and wanted to promote that. I know a lot of people find Bayonetta and Corrin to be pretty cynical advertising picks, but neither of them really hurt Banjo's chances. In fact all the DLC characters in Smash 4 now just feel like they were padding out time while working in Ultimate where they are putting more actual fan favorites.
We all know how it turned out at the end about how she didn't win it and how the ballot was used for Ultimate, But it always annoyed me how they said she won it, Like her 2nd game came out exclusive to the Wii U the same year Smash Wii U came out, Don't give me that garbage that she won the ballot ,obviously there was some deal in the works to promote her and she was used as a scapegoat and she was never highly demanded, but that's all water under the bridge because I would rather have my favorite newcomers debut in Ultimate than in Wii U.

I totally support Banjo & Kazooie. Say what you will about whether or not Rare would been better in their dark age if they were still owned by Nintendo. But if that were the case then B&K probably would have been in since Melee. Of course now we have to hope Nintendo and Microsoft are willing to cooperate to put them in.

Likeliness is a wildcard with too little info to say for sure either way. But I am totally a supporter of this character.

I really would love for chief to get in after Banjo would, that would be amazing, I could finally reenact the old Samus vs master chief vid lol

Only issue with Master Chief i really see is that in Japan his popularity is nothing. Minecraft and Banjo are both popular in Japan and I've never seen 1 Japanese Master Chief supporter, he isn't iconic in Japan like he is here. I know western characters have made it to Smash before, but only after massive vocal support like Little Mac and Ridley, but for the most part Smash characters tend to go for international appeal.

You wouldn't happen to know how popular Banjo-Kazooie is in Japan ? Sometimes I hear Their pretty popular other times I hear they weren't that big, So I always assume they did ok, No doubt they were bigger in the west salea wise too. I'm kind of surprised minecraft is popular in Japan, doesn't seem like something that would do well or appeal in the east.

Japan is 1 of 3. The country of origin, so yes, important, but in both NA and EU he is quite iconic and well known, maybe enough to make up for it some. Hard to say.

I've talked about it a little in the past on this thread, yes they are popular. I won't write a giant research paper explaining why they are popular and citing a million sources, but every Japanese N64 fan i know (I'm part of a N64 dedicated forum and have lots of Japanese members and associates) says Banjo Kazooie are big there. People often say N64 isn't popular in Japan, which isn't true. Nowadays N64 is more popular in Japan than ever, nostalgia is high just like it is over here, and they love Banjo.

If you type バンジョーとカズーイ(Banjo-Kazooie) into google, the 2nd result is バンジョーとカズーイ スマブラ (Banjo Kazooie Smash Brothers). That alone should show how popular they are, being the 2nd in Google search result. If you go through every result you can see so many lists with Banjo and Kazooie. Phil Spencers tweets have been translated and Japanese fans rallyed for Banjo once they realised it's possible.

Of course remember this doesn't mean they are most popular. Japan has just as many crazy chatacter communities as we do. Many want a Dragon Quest rep, many want Monster Hunter, many want Crash Bandicoot, and there are dozens of super popular character camps. But Banjo & Kazooie are in the conversation very often all around the world and are obviously in Sakurai's sight given the amount of Rareware references already in Ultimate. So here's hoping, even if it takes DLC. I'm eagerly anticipating the next direct, desperately hoping to see a Minecraft stage or something to confirm Microsoft involvement. As soon as Microsoft is revealed to be involved, Banjo's chances instantly shoot through the roof.

Thanks, Good to know they have a precense over there, If you also google or youtube search Banjo-Kazooie here in the west too, Smash Bros also pops up next to their name, which is good to see how many people want to associate them into the game, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Oh. Never played a Halo game so I genuinely didn’t know what you meant by that lol

My mind went to Solid Snake when I read super soldier

Aren’t Little Mac and Ridley Japanese?

I’m pretty sure the only non Japanese characters so far are Diddy and now K. rool (Rare - British) and Dark Samus (Retro - American)

While Little Mac and Ridley are Japanese creations, They have much bigger appeal in the West seeing how Punch Out seems to based off Rocky which is iconic in American pop culture and Little Mac is from the Bronx, NY and Metroid and Sci-Fi in general were never really big in Japan as it is in the west, That's why for a long time Retro Studios (American developer) was in charge of the franchise.

Last I checked, they were well in the lead with only Rayman being close behind them! I'm sure if Geno was allowed on the poll, though, he'd be up there if not surpassing the bear and bird lol

Doom or GTFO.
Yeah Doom is Halo's granddaddy, both played their part in making FPSes what they are today.
Doomguy is easily my top wanted newcomer, but he's not dependent on MS so him getting in is its own, fairly possible thing. By the time we hit 100 fighters I want both Doomguy and the Master Chief in there though, assuming they decide to make Ultimate live on for 10 years and just supply more and more fighters thru DLC...

Either way I'm pretty certain Banjo & Kazooie will come before either.

That is good. So collect 100 trophies? Perhaps collect 100 music tracks, like collecting music notes in the game?
I was thinking just get 100 total of all collectibles. Like 30 Trophies, 20 Music Tracks, 10 Custom Moves (if those are still a thing) and so on and so forth until you get to 100.

You have to collect 100 CDs in a single match, or else your record resets after the fight and you have to start all over again.

Just kidding. That would be staying a little too faithful to the source material.

Hey there friends!

I've been hesitant to make an account for a really long time, and obviously Isaac is my number one most wanted, but Banjo-Kazooie is a very close second. Just wanted to give a shoutout to the bear and bird crew.

So, what would the unlock methods be for Banjo and how hard would he be to unlock?
I would like to see them incorporate Donkey and Diddy Kong to unlock him, like beat Classic mode at it's highest difficulty with DK and Diddy or something.

I will absolutely get a Banjo-Kazooie amiibo. Nintendo would be nuts not to put them in solely for the amount of amiibo they'd sell of them.
I was just thinking about that today. I've never had any interest in getting amiibo. Never understood their appeal. But thinking about the possibility of a Banjo-Kazooie amiibo? I'd have to get one. And then I'd want to get Mario, Link, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Pokemon Trainer. I don't even want to imagine what that would all cost, but B&K might be my gateway amiibo. NINTENDO AND SAKURAI, PUT BANJO & KAZOOIE IN AND TAKE ALL MY MONEY!

If Banjo & Kazooie manage to get in, I literally will not care who else makes it in. As long as Banjo-Kazooie get in, I will be eternally happy.
Same. I've read plenty of wish rosters, predictions. Any that don't have Banjo & Kazooie don't appeal to me, personally. I'm happy for the fans, but this game is truly Ultimate. Outside of Banjo & Kazooie and Crash, I can't think of any other game I've played that has the potential to be a unique newcomer. Every character returning is both a huge positive--none of my favorites have been cut. But a huge negative, because if Banjo & Kazooie aren't in, I can't imagine a likely roster where at least one unique newcomer I've played, and there's so many popular picks (Geno, Skull Kid, Isaac) that I've not heard of prior to Ultimate speculation. It's why I'm trying (and failing) to keep my expectations as low as possible, as the game is amazing as it is. But Banjo & Kazooie? It'd make the game go from awesome to perfect.
