Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Gregg Mayles actually the creator of Banjo. He still works at Rare to this day.

Woah a lot of people on this board today

Anyways, staying strong for our favorite and duo. I’m optimistic going into E3, but I’m not expecting them in April

Gregg and Steve who ate brothers, I’m not too sure who did what
Who "ate" brothers?!

E8F12BEF-6667-425F-BACF-2297CF2DED4B.gif

1. I made a ton of gifs using this show. Mostly because I was annoyed at how there were only 2. Though no good Banjo gifs really fit here...
2. You mean are brothers right? They both created Banjo.

I hope you realize that by saying they have “trump derangement syndrome” you’re being just as bad as you’re accusing them of being. Let’s not bring politics into this

It's not GX's fault people believed the leak. It's just that they failed to cover it, despite making their name doing just that a few years ago. It was a highly credible leak and they never gave it a 'lookover' because they had information that debunked it. Which they didn't disclose that they had, instead lying and saying it was an obvious fake and making up things like how it used the Smashified render. The biggest problem was Andre, who acted like an arrogant jerk while the whole thing was going on.

There were several insiders who acted horrifically during that period, but I think Andre and Serebii were the two worst offenders.

Edit: sorry the readability of this post is bad where I'm very tired.

Please slow down and edit your posts before you share them on here, it always gives me a headache trying to read your stuff. And please don't bring politics onto this thread.

This might've been obvious, but I asked Playtonic this anyway: Thoughts?

Even tho yooka was meh, I'd trust playtonic with banjo waaaaaaaaay more than I do with current rare. Banjo is wasted on them.
Most of the Rare employees who created Banjo are part of Playtonic. They definitely have experience, moreso than the remaining Rare ones. Having the creator still with Microsoft(though I don't know if it that's true?) doesn't mean much alone. The creator isn't necessarily the one who programmed the game. They're just the character designer and in many cases the concept designer for their abilities.

All the more reason I agree with giving it to Playtonic. They're more likely to do better in capturing the original style.

Exactly. Yooka isn't perfect, but you can tell it had some love and passion behind it. Rare themselves want nothing to do with banjo. And if that's the case, don't. Don't make a banjo game if you don't want to. Chances are they'll half-ass it to the point everyone will say: "Uh you know what, nuts and bolts wasn't that bad"

General is Steve posting again so I'm gonna hang here until things tide over.

Back to Banjo.... uh.....

Wouldn't it be neat if Wonderwing theme played when Banjo grabbed a star?

Though in the end, it's Microsoft's decision whether it gets made or not. If Rare was on their own, they could have anyone else develop it as long as they can fund it. So sadly it isn't as simple.

I actually forgot who worked on Nuts & Bolts. Was it actually still under Rare, before Playtonic became a thing, or "later Rare" or another developer?

It was Rare after the Stamper Brothers left but before the Kinect Sports era. So a transitionary phase.

It is true, Gregg Mayles is still at Rare.

See, the problem there is that, for the old Banjo games, Gregg was the guy who was actually responsible for the most of the game and level design, which is, you know, where Yooka-Laylee ended up faltering the most. He literally handcrafted the worlds in Banjo by himself and wrote the story and dialogue for the characters, and he imagined all the gameplay concepts and ideas. Have some of his concept art to get a good idea of what he contributed to Banjo:

Yes, Chris Sutherland, Steve Mayles and Grant Kirkhope are important recipes to the Banjo formula, but Gregg was the guy providing the structure for everything to work. It's why YL does a decent job at looking and sounding like a Banjo, but ends up missing the heart, because as it turns out, Gregg was that heart. It's like trying to form the Megazord without the Tyrannosaurus zord, pretty much.

I believe a 3rd party should be hired for a new Banjo, like with KI and this new Battletoads. Obviously its a big risk, but as long as the developers have talent and have true passion for the series it should turn out alright. Playtonic would be better than Rare, but Yooka didnt quite convince me that theyre ready to tackle a challenge as big as living up to Banjo Threeie yet.

Im pretty sure it was before the Playotnic and Rare "split up". I remember around 2012 Grant Kirkhope expressed interest in getting most of the devs together to do a spiritual successor, but it wasnt until 2015 when the kickstarter showed up and Playtonic was officailly a thing.

If the Stage is Spiral Mountain I can see that happening. I still want the Wonderwing to be their Down-B,but more as a reflect/counter like K.Rool's gut check.

Ah, interesting to know. Thanks for the information. inb4DragonzordInFightingMode(incidentally I do my own Power Rangers stuff anyway. I got a ton of stuff).

And yeah, a lot of people do forget that it takes multiple to recapture the same thing. Playtonic definitely can do something with it, but you clearly need Gregg too. But you need just more than one guy to fully do it. This feels kind of like a Sakurai situation, except it's more than that. I bet many didn't know that his wife designed the menus/interface in general, meaning it was always a team effort even from Smash 64. So both matter.

SneakyLink SneakyLink and Llort A. Ton Llort A. Ton Thanks for the information too. More or less, I covered the same reply via the one to Dinoman96.

I really don't know who else Microsoft would ask besides the makers of Super Lucky's Tale since I am pretty sure they are Microsoft owned. Until I see it my self I don't think Nintendo would let any of their studios make the game.

Grant gave a brief summary of the events of nuts and bolts. It was during game grumps (jon and arin) when grant was a guest.

As far who should tackle banjo threeie? In a perfect world...a collaboration between Nintendo and playtonic would be our best bet.

Nintendo has a lot of experience with 3d platformers. The level design would be solid, and they would give it that old "Nintendo polish"

Playtonic for the old Rare Ware charm and personality. Something I don't think Nintendo can nail down.

Speaking of small touches, I like the idea that someone mentioned before of having the Banjo-Kazooie pause menu theme playing on the results screen after their victory theme (Similarly to Cloud's post victory theme)

Banjo-Kazooie: Jiggy Theme
https://youtu.be/DxKaqEycY6M

Which would likely be their victory theme
followed by

Banjo-Kazooie: Pause Screen

You know. I just remembered that Retro studios has had a mystery game in production for what seems like years at this point. :201h::201m::201m::201m::201m:

Jiggy theme complete with a jiggy dance victory animation
I want one of their victory animations to be the one where they collect all the Jiggy's and Banjo bows to the audience, But with Kazooie bowing as well and they both do it twice in opposite sides as an extra touch.

One of their victory animations should have Banjo lean in from the right and knock on the screen, as a reference to Banjo-Kazooie's intro

both are damn good.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

be sure to cast your votes by the way. 25000 votes needed for results to be posted.
Used my Comp to vote for Banjo, and used my phone to vote for Sans. They're probably my top 3rd Party picks right now

I casted my vote last week, But I hope many here get theirs in as well and help Banjo-Kazooie retain their title.
