Kinda off topic but I gotta say that I adore Dedede's Final Smash in this game. I always thought that Masked Dedede was awesome, and I was a little annoyed that it wasn't his Final Smash in Smash 4 in favor of an original and kind of bland attack. Sakurai really hit it out of the park making up for that in this game. I hope that it's a sign of more Modern Kirby representation in this Smash... such as including our spear-toting hero.

Speaking of moves, how'd you feel about him having a move that involves healing food from Kirby? It'd be a way to reference his roles in Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot, and it'd make him one of the few characters who can actually heal (and one of two characters who can actually heal a decent amount of damage).

It would make *slightly* more sense (but still not much) if he were a Meta Knight echo sans the wings/gliding. But the way I see it, should be original or bust. BD brings too many fresh new ideas to the table to make him an echo.

B Waddle Dee couldn't be an echo, but he could easily be a semi-clone of Kirby, with only unique specials and maybe one or two regular moves.

His run, crouch, dodge, block and jump animations are the same in Star Allies as Kirby's, so it's not like he hasn't copied Kirby's animations even in his own series.

Why has everyone suddenly forgotten what "clone" means? Bandana Dee literally couldn't do any attack that Kirby can do. Semi-Clones and Echo Fighters recycle the ENTIRE moveset, or some variation of it, with the latter being borderline reskins.

Bandana Dee can't casually do rapid fighter kirby punches, float, any actual kicking moves, hammer, stone, fire dash, or kirby's neutral air spin. It's literally impossible for him to be a clone of any kind.

A Kirby Echo seems weird, but a Meta Knight Echo is pretty close, since they both use bladed weapons for their basic physical attacks. I would prefer a mostly-new character, though. (And honestly... Sakurai could basically rip nearly everything from Star Allies and directly import it into Smash with minor changes for things like grabs and throws. Bandana Waddle Dee should take almost zero development time compared to most fighters.)

A character isn't going to do something that misrepresents their character, as that defeats the purpose of them being in Smash. This is like saying Zelda can be a Zero Suit Samus echo clone because they have the same shape and hair colour, or that Ridley could be a Charizard echo clone.

I think there's spectrum on how far a character's moveset can be expanded from their home games. Adding some basic punches and kicks seems to be in line with what Sakurai allows. It's not like Pac-Man goes around punching and kicking or throwing keys, but those were added to round out his moveset.

Giving ZSS's stun gun to Zelda is much further on the spectrum of 'taking creative liberties' than giving Bandana Dee a few of Kirby's punches and kicks. It's not as if Meta Knight ever uses grabs or kicks in his home game, but he certainly has some in Smash.

I'm in agreement with DjinnandTonic here. simple actions like punches and kicks can be appllied to a character to round out their moveset.
if it wasn't for that fact, Captain Falcon would do nothing but drive a car after all.
so applying some of Kirby's punches or Meta-Knight's slashes is something they COULD do to deecrease deevelopment time. but just copying a couple of basic attacks is not enough to have Bandana Dee count as an echo of either of them. since the rest of their movesets clash with what he is logically capable of (inhale, wing, etc)

that said, Complete Newcomer or bust! B.W.D should NOT be an echo fighter.

Definitely a Bandana Dee supporter! I play Kirby games every once in a while, and I think he would make the Kirby representation perfect. Having a spear is cool, but I'm also interested in him representing Waddle Dees/other copy abilities that Kirby doesn't have. Maybe he can have a parasol and borrow the beam ability from Waddle Doo. I also think that some Waddle Dee have axes in Triple Deluxe. Overall, I'd say that he has a great chance. Here's hoping!

Pretty much the same as it is now, if slightly less because Star Allies and Battle Royale didn't exist yet. He's always been one of the most popular potential new characters though. He just got a boost since both of those recent games gave him HUGE roles

He's been redder than standard Waddle Dees since at least Return to Dream Land. It's more noticeable now since the recency of Battle Royale and Star Allies, combined with him being seen with other Waddle Dees a lot in both these, it can seem like it's only recent.

the generic waddle dees are from a "nose-chara" set (a japanese stacking game)

while Bandana dee is from a series of Battle Royale themed figurines

His exact colour seems to change between games. but he has been shown as slightly redder than other waddle dees in the past, like in Dream Collection, as a way of helping to distinguish him from generic waddle dees on screen

I guess i'm kinda a phantom nowadays, but i've always supported Bandana Dee, he was my vote on the ballot.

But on another note i just want to say for his final smash, i think the best thing would be a waddle dee stampede, like the Dedede cutscene with Luigi, but
more like the intro to Nightmare In Dreamland, but with Waddle Dees.

Ah, not familar with that move yet as i haven't gotten into Star Allies yet.
But that sounds like another great concept, i think if Dee were to get a final smash, it should have a crazy visual to it.

Recap of what's different now the game's been revealed

1. King Dedede still doesn't use Waddle Dees in his attacks but the attacks that replaced them are now much better (Gordos can now be spat back if reflected and the final smash is now a WDDDF cage fight!)
2. Said replacement Final Smash now shows that using stuff from post Sakurai games isn't a one off.
3. A HUGE fan request got in (DAISY! ) so the Ballot may still change things and, in our little bubble at least, BWD was the most popular Kirby character.
4. All Veterans returned so if the game has DLC this time, it's all new characters.

Surprised I hadn't posted in this thread yet, but I support Bandanna Dee 100% and I feel he's actually extremely likely, even with the smaller newcomer pool this go around.
