Introduction

It's a dark Sunday afternoon during the late 19th century and a carriage is moving toward an small abandoned hospital outside town. Inside this carriage sit 11 people all considered to be insane. Due to lack of space, these have been forced to move from their respective asylums to a small dormitory, completely separated from the rest of civilization.

The 11 people are dressed in dirty, gray robes and locked inside the dormitory left with a food supply for one week. It turns out the staff members don't even intend to check on them until one week later, and they are left to do whatever they want until then.

In the middle of the night, 7 inmates wake up by the sound of a dying scream. Shockingly, they see three shadows violently stabbing Erik, the oldest inmate, to death. Panic breaks out as every single inmate rises out of their bed to confront the murderers. But unfortunately, it's still dark and the three killers manage to blend in with the crowd. When the sun rises, only the three killers know who the guilty are.

Suddenly, the asylum has become a death trap. The three killers are determined that they want every single innocent person in the room dead. It is now their job to make sure that their secret remains so that they can kill off the others one by one.

The innocent, however, have become scared for their lives. They decide that it is best to do whatever they can to kill whoever they suspect murdered old Erik.

Setup

1 former detective
The former detective is the only one who hasn't previously been in an asylum. He was considered mad after a case where he made a mistake and accused the queen for murdering a priest. Unlike the other inmates, his mind is still completely stable, and thus has the ability to investigate people to learn more about them.

Each night, the former detective may ask the game leader to investigate one person to learn his/her role. At the beginning of the game, the detective isn't aware of anyone's role.
4 nutcases
These people are basically clueless about their situation. To them, everyone could be the killer, although, there is one exception. They have previously heard about the detective's case, and therefore know that he is innocent.

All nutcases are aware that the detective is a detective. Other than that, they have no special abilities.
2 paranoids
These inmates are in for threatening innocent people they thought were dangerous. They always keep a knife hidden in their sleeve, ready to attack if someone should suddenly try to assault them.

Paranoid killers work like bombs. They will go down with whoever tries to assassinate them during the night. They will not kill if they are lynched. All paranoids are aware that the detective is a detective.
2 killers
The killers are in simply because they enjoy taking the lives of other humans. Now that they are under no supervision, it's a perfect chance for them to harvest as many people as they want in one week.

Killers are equal to mafia. Every night, they get to choose one person to kill.
1 attentive killer
Unlike the other killers, the attentive killer has the ability to search the other inmates' belongings. They can find out whether a person carries a knife or not.

Every night, the attentive killer gets to target one person to see if he/she is paranoid or not. On the other hand, the attentive killer can't find out whether a person is the detective or not.

Additional rule:
Like previously mentioned, the staff will visit the asylum once every week to check on the inmates. This means that if they arrive the next Sunday to see that the inmates have started to kill each other, they will once again separate everybody.

If the game continues until Day 7, everybody loses.

How is it played?

During the Day phase, all alive players are allowed to post as much as they want. You can use the command Vote: [username] to lay your vote on a person and Unvote to remove your vote. If a majority is reached, that person will be lynched.

There can also be a majority for the command No vote. If this happens, the Day end without anyone getting lynched. The same thing happens if no majority is reached at the end of the Day.

If you want my attention, use the command @Mod in a post.

During the Night phase, mafia members can talk using any kind of chat service. When you have decided who you want to nightkill, send me the name of the person you want killed along with the chat log.

The mafia must also choose one person to be the one who deals the final blow. This person will die if the targeted person is a paranoid.

The Day phase will be 4 days long and the Night phase will be 1 day long.

Rules
1) This is obvious, but try to make the game enjoyable. In order to make this as fun as possible, don't cheat.
2) You are not allowed to edit posts. If you do so, you will be warned. If you get warned a second time in one day, you will be modkilled.
3) When you're dead, you're dead. After dying you are allowed to make a final post with your "dying words" containing no more than 20 characters.
4) Don't quote or screencap role PMs. Obviously.
5) Talking outside this thread is strictly prohibited unless you are one of the killers. If I get to know that you have broken this rule, you will be instantly modkilled.
6) English is the only language allowed.
7) You must post at least once every 48 hours. After 36 hours, you will get a prod. After 48 hours, you will get modkilled (keep in mind that I might be asleep or busy though, heh).
8) If you feel like you can't keep up with the game or if you are just busy with something else, you can ask for a replacement.
9) Roleplaying is not necessary, but it might add fun to the game. It's up to you.
10) IF YOU AREN'T IN THIS MAFIA GAME, DON'T BOTHER POSTING HERE.

looking at the deadlines this is a fast-paced game. keep that in mind people.

Frown, why is mafia not allowed to privately communicate during the day phase? that is a quite uncommon rule.

This is an uncommon setup.

Flavor.

Mafia can't communicate during the day because the other inmates would notice who's privately talking to who

Sorry for double post, but some serious comments.

Your rules contradict, you say, during the day, all ten players can talk ; it would be better to say, during the day, all alive players can talk.

And assuming you won't be editing that rule set, for the 6/10 point, it would be best to say when a majority is reached (or when it's physically impossible to contest the leading vote)

When the morning arrives, 10 people are left to fight for their survival. The innocent ones know that they could talk to the detective for help, but they realize that keeping his identity secret is more important than anything else.

Day 1 starts now and ends in 96 hours.
