Assign Rivals For A Game

Tried a thread like this as a forum game a while back but that kind of flopped so I thought I’d start a general gaming discussion where you can take a fighting game (or just a game with a roster in it) without a system of rivals and make each character rivals of each other! You can pick any game you want and explain which characters would be each others rivals and why and if this would affect the game. I might try one of my own later on.

Okay so this is part of my Smash fantasy but here are the rivals for my 64 roster redo:

The rival system would work like Tekken 1 and 2 where the characters on the bottom are rivals to the characters on top in 1P Game. The unlock conditions are as follows:

1. Luigi: Complete 1P Game as Mario without using a continue
2. Bowser: Complete 1P Game as Donkey Kong without using a continue
3. Marth: Complete 1P Game as Link without using a continue
4. Mewtwo: Complete 1P Game as Samus without using a continue
5. King Dedede: Complete 1P Game as Yoshi without using a continue
6. Ness: Complete 1P Game as Kirby without using a continue
7. Captain Falcon: Complete 1P Game as Fox without using a continue
8. Meowth: Complete 1P Game as Pikachu without using a continue

• Patrick VS Garfield (Lazy eaters)
• Sandy VS Toph (The cool, tough girls)
• Aang VS April (Aang wants to avoid the news as he misunderstands and equates it to having obsessive fans chase him around again)
• Korra VS Leonardo (The cool, heroic types)
• Lucy VS Oblina (Goth kid finds a Real Monster)
• Michelangelo VS Danny (The young heroes)
• Shredder VS Zim (Who will take over first!?)
• Ren and Stimpy VS Catdog (The dog and cat duos)
• Powdered Toast Man VS Reptar (The food mascots)
• Nigel VS Hugh (The meme dads)
• Helga VS Jenny (Not much to say here tbh)
• Sadly, Rocko is left out due to an uneven roster

Ryu Vs. Cyclops
Basically just because of the shot picture of them shaking hands and that they’re essentially portrayed as the faces of both sides in that image

Ken Vs. Wolverine
Mostly just existing because Ken and Wolverine are essentially rivals to Ryu and Cyclops

M. Bison Vs. Dr. Doom
Gotta have the very villainous villains face each other

Strider-Hiryu Vs. Spider-Man
So we can put the two really acrobatic characters against each other and also it’s funny because their names are both hyphenated

Guile Vs. Captain America
It’s Guile Vs. Captain America.

Morrigan Vs. Thanos
Thanos is known for simping for the goddess of death so I feel like he might do the same with a succubus.

Roll Vs. Sentinel
It’s funny to put two robots of such differing sizes together and it’s also funny to put the objectively weakest character against one of the strongest

Zangief Vs. Colossus
Russian heavyweights

Dhalsim Vs. Storm
They’re both related to the environment and fire is like the one element Storm can’t control

BB Hood Vs. Shuma-Gorath
BB Hood hunts monsters so why not let her take it up a notch and fight an eldritch being?

Charlie Vs. Cable
Admittedly this is mostly a hindsight based pick, Charlie didn’t became a cyborg until SFV but I do still heavily associate both characters with the 90s and just think they’d make a good match up

Akuma Vs. Blackheart
A dude who became essentially a demon vs. basically the devil’s son

Cammy Vs. Psylocke
Two female British characters with a weird amount of upper thigh exposed in 90% of drawings of them

Chun-Li Vs. Omega Red
Omega Red was turned into a super villain sorta because of Interpol and so he might want revenge on Chun-Li, you know, the interpol agent

Amingo Vs. Iceman
Two types of deserts against each other

Jin Vs. Iron Man
Two people who fight using robots or robot suits

Jill Vs. Hulk
I mean Hulk could very easily be mistaken for a colour shifted version of something from Resident Evil if you didn’t know any better

Tron Bonne Vs. Magneto
Tron definitely has a lot of metal stuff Magneto would like to use if a fight called for it

Felicia Vs. Gambit
I associate Felicia with show business since she’s a singer and Gambit fights using cards so that’s kinda similar. Felicia does have some stages that are casinos in the Darkstalkers series too iirc

Anakaris Vs. Spiral
Anakaris’ wife appears in some of his attacks so I figured it could work given Spiral’s origin story involves her lover. The main reason though, is that with her leg warmers I associate Spiral’s design with colder areas so it contrasts Anakaris being a mummy

Ruby Heart Vs. Silver Samurai
guys who would win in a fight a pirate or a samurai?

Captain Commando Vs. War Machine
Robot suits!!!!

Sakura Vs. Wolverine (Bone Claws)
We all know of the way Wolverine plays off of X-23 and so his rival being a young girl could work. However this is a more inexperienced version of the character meaning it might a little rougher or whatever.

Dan Vs. Juggernaut
I’d like to put Dan against a really powerful opponent so why not the Juggernaut? Plus Dan could totally beat him by failing upwards and removing is helmet

ServBot Vs. Venom
Yeah definitely running out of characters here but honestly I feel like ServBots could totally be evil symbiotic parasites

SonSon Vs. Sabretooth
Last two characters but they’re both kinda like animals so it totally works!
