Yeah, Arle has another chance again! Though, I am quite horrified by the fact the game is coming this year. We are presumably going to be rooting for her as DLC again cause there is just no way she is among the final chosen characters unless Sakurai really wants to get creative. And I don't see any reason why he would not want her in since she's another magic character and could mark the debut of a little girl as a fighter.
True true. Most of Puyo Puyp Tetris's success happened un the Switch's first year.

So she would definitely need all the support she can get if she doesn't make it in the base game. Sega of America I feel is another big obstacle in her way, even if they had been treated Puyo Puyo nicer in recent times.

Sega's own Panel De Pon.
I do not know how likely it is, but I lend my support to this.

To get a good idea, Arle was massively popular in Japan as far as Smash Ballot popularity. Because well, Japan gets all of the Puyo Puyo entries and it isn't a dead series like Panel De Pon.

Just that she's another Sega character and her inconsistent appearance in the West would make her less likely than say another Sonic character or even an Atlus character.

Arle has my support. I don't have a clue what her moveset would be, but I'd love to see her in the game if it means more attention is brought to puzzle games that are more obscure than Tetris and more legitimate than Candy Crush.

Yes, the competitive community for Putyo Puyo is massive. It's there in Japan and slowly growing in the West thanks to Puyo Puyo Tetris.

Goes to show that she's is far from unknown despite people having their own main from the same game.

Gotta say, still flabbergasted that Bayonetta was the Ballot choice and the second Sega rep. Not disappointed, far from it, just... never saw that coming.

Though between that and Ryu, it's confirmed that there's no limit on the amount of series an outside company can have.

I'll support, mostly because I want a character properly designed with Match Puzzle Game mechanics in mind.

Lip's been left in the dust and Dr. Mario, while one of my favourites to play, is still Mario's basic moveset with a coat of paint and a spin. Plus I'm not sure if they could make Tetris blocks a character. Don't doubt their creativity, just the legal issues.

Sorry, gang! Had a LOT of schoolwork to attend to! Now that I'm back...who wants to be popped onto that support list?
From the look of things, you have a few new ones to add. Majorb, Crap-Zapper, Yokta, and Slambros.

Pop me onto the support list, please. Big fan of Puyo Puyo now that SEGA actually let me buy and play it instead of just looking at the character designs online.

I'd also like to say that....I think it would be neat if Arle's Final Smash made the player play Puyo in Fever mode, and they have to set off the chain to make her damage trapped opponents with all her spells. Call it Puyo Puyo Fever.

I support this girl big-time. She'd be a rich addition to the roster, especially because she'd be a dose of brevity in a room where too many fantasy characters are taking themselves too seriously. Also, Bayoeen would be a cool KO move.

You all are now official "Puyo Poppers"! Congratulations!!!
arle confirmed

Soon....soon....

Puyo Puyo Tetris is now an official eSport in Japan. If THIS isn't proof of Arle Nadja (and Puyo Puyo's) massive popularity there, then I don't know what is.

Wait, hasn't it BEEN an eSport even BEFORE eSports was a thing? Like, circa 1997, right? I always hear about that year in regards to Tsu's tournament scene.

Yes, Puyo Puyo’s competitive scene had been big in Japan for a long time, but it wasn’t officially recognized as an e-Sport until now. All it gets in the West is smaller stuff like AnimeEVO.

Hey, at least Puyo Puyo Tetris is even a thing here in the West. A "thing" that sold a MILLION copies, I might add.

Hey, guys. In the event that Arle is added to Smash, what do you say to Amitie and Ringo alts. in the vein of Captain Olimar and Alph?

They all share the same body type, so it's possible.

If Sega is nice enough to make it all happen.

You just may like these cool sprites I found.

Puyo Puyo Fighter when, Sega?
Indeed, this is why I love the Puyo Puyo fandom since they are very creative with fan material.

These sprites being a good example.
Holy crud, these are BEAUTIFUL!

Also, what do you all see? Sonic the Fighters with Puyo Puyo characters or an Arc System-made Puyo fighting game?

Personally, the former feels like delicious irony when you consider Mean Bean Machine, not to mention that Puyo would REALLY translate well into that game's goofy slapstick violence.

As for the latter...well, who wouldn't want that? ASW making a Puyo fighting game? SEGA would probably run my wallet dry.

Given that Sega hardly gives much fanfare to Sonic the Fighters, I doubt a Sonic the Fighters the game would happen with the Puyo cast.

But it's still likelier to happen than an Arc Sys collaboration when Sega would probably skip over the idea.

As much as I would love an Arc Sys fighter with Puyo characters, I realistically see Sega going for the more realistic fighting game characters if we look at Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, which had a playable Akira Yuki and Pai Chan.

Or they can use Sonic again since the rumored and now confirmed Sonic Racing confirms that they will always cling to only Sonic characters for better sales. Yeah, don't expect something like Sonic & Sega All Stars anymore.

I would love to see Arle in Smash but I think she'd make it as DLC, if at all. Puyo Puyo is still too niche outside of Japan, she as a character isn't hugely recognizable (she hasn't been the real protagonist of the series in a while), and SEGA would probably include a second Sonic character before her.

Sadly, I see this happening. The thing is, Puyo Puyo has potential to delve into other genres than just puzzle stuff, but SEGA never bothers. It's kind of bothersome.

I take it I can add you to the support list? BTW, I actually see her (or any other SEGA character) as WAY more likely than a second Sonic character. What's more, I'd say Arle is slowly but surely gaining prominence as the main protag of the series again starting with the 25th anniversary game.

Uh smashkirby smashkirby , you might want to take care of that.

I'm kind of shocked he forgot to list you as a supporter.
Wait, seriously??? I could have sworn you were one of the FIRST people on that list! Hang on, I'm fixing this right away! All right, you're on there! Seriously, I REALLY don't know how or why you weren't on there originally. Again, I could have SWORN I had you on there before...

I recently got a Switch, and before I purchased Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild, I got stuck in with the demo of Puyo Puyo Tetris for the time being, the characters intrigue me and I'm very interested in purchasing the full version when I get the chance.

Sure I'd love to see Arle in Smash. Hopefully she'd make it in as well as Nintendo/IS's own puzzle lass, Lip from Panel de Pon.

Never played much of Puyo Puyo - the extent of my time with the series is the demo of Puyo Puyo Tetris, and an hour of the Super Famicom entry once. I want to play it more in the future, though! I think Arle would be a good addition to Smash. I never knew she was from something besides Puyo - Madou Monogatari sounds far more dark and serious than I would've expected for such a cute character, wow. :o

You can add me to the support list! She has a fun design, she's popular in Japan, and would be a good puzzle game rep, which Smash doesn't have much of (just Dr. Mario, unless I'm forgetting someone else?) Sounds like a good choice to me!

Now usually I am picky when it comes to which characters I support for Super Smash Bros, but with a neat outfit and cute design. I can't help but to be supportive of Arle Nadja, now when it comes to third-party characters. It's sort of a touchy subject if Sega should get another third-party in Super Smash Bros or if they should include other third-party characters instead. Since Bayonetta happened to be a part of Sega as well it kinda puts Arle Nadja in a tight position.

And the fact that Puyo Puyo is published/developed by Sega, it sorta falls in that category as well. But nevertheless, I do support this thread. And who knows. Maybe Puyo Puyo will be considered in for other reasons. Other than being third-party. Let's hope!

Not going to lie, as much as I love Arle and would love her in Smash, I feel as though Lip should be added first as she actually from Nintendo.

Thanks to this thread i decided to add Arle to my wishlist

Oh, trust me....Madou Monogatari is one of the darkest JRPGs out there. Seriously, the tone shift between the two series is one of the most JARRING things I've ever seen in my life.

I'm honestly pretty curious, especially with a claim like that! :p I'll have to look into it a bit more some time - might not enjoy playing it if it's incredibly dark, but I'd like to know a bit more about it, at least. To be honest, I'm having trouble imagining how different it could possibly be, considering how cute and friendly Puyo is, so I'm very interested!

It does work to her benefit in terms of entering Smash, though! They've never had difficulty making good movesets for characters with limited things, so I'm sure they could make something fun if she only had Puyo-based things to work with, but having both puzzle games AND JRPGs to pull moves from definitely opens the options much further.
