Are there different play styles in Melee?

Like Aggressive and Defensive? If yes, can you give me the correct names and description of these types? Also what characters work best for each type?

There are definitely different styles among different players. Like when you watch most Falcos you'll see a lot of lasers but when you watch MaNg0's there aren't so many. And then there's Hungrybox's bair heavy, rest anything Jigglypuff and MaNg0's aggro Jigglypuff

It's also important to know how to adapt to different styles when you encounter them, as well as being able to transition between different styles and even blend them together when needed.

Some people are defensive. They have any kind of skill level.
Some people are patient yet aggressive. They are good.

That's how i always felt and observed Melee playstyles, not so sure about it though.

Most of the top players are patiently agressive. When they get 1 hit on you, they are too good at following up. So you're dead

yeah sirlin has good summaries as far as playstyles go

but yeah moo is right, melee seems to benefit that kind of play style. very spacing intensive, but still kinda in your face

I don't think we as a community have ever named specific styles of play?

Aggro
Falco
Fox
Characters who can out pressure other characters and can control the tempo of the game

Campy
Jigglypuff
Peach
Sheik
Marth
Characters who rely on the opponent to make a mistake, like a poorly spaced move, and punish

Run away and throw projectiles
Young Link

No there are not any different play styles in Melee. Everyone plays exactly the same.

my personal favorite style, Silent Spectre's. so chill, yet aggressive and always has fun
