Any point in entering tournaments if I'm not that great at advanced techs?

Taylor, here's a story for ya.

My first tourney was SMYM10. It's one of the bigger midwest tourneys they hold. I had only been playing for, like, 5 months. I went in looking to do my best and I ended up doing better than everyone else in my crew. Not to say I made it out of pools, but I won 2 out of my(i think) 6 total sets. Those two sets made me want to get soooo good. So that's why I haven't stopped playing. I'm not pro, really. But that day at SMYM made me improve 10-fold. It's ridiculous what being in a tournament setting can do for your skill. Yea, you might get butt ***** all day. But you'll end up learning alot more than you already knew. It's mad fun to meet and play with different/better people. And even just playing friendlies the whole time is well worth the trip. :D

Glad to be taking you to your first tourney. I promise you'll have a mad amount of fun. The Louisiana guys are all pretty cool.

tl;dr: Go to the ****ing tournament, have a great ****ing time and enjoy your-****ing-self.

:p

Go and lose your ten bucks, but stick around and play as many friendlies as you possibly can. Getting that initial experience will give you a rough idea of how far you have to go. And playing other people who are playing at the best they possibly can will give you an idea of what to expect from your opponents. Then, the friendlies allow you to practice finding ways around various tactics without the pressure of losing.

Most important is to keep your eyes open. Your first tournament is a major learning experience, and every game you play will have something to teach you, so pay attention.

That too. Try and watch as many matches as you can. A great way to find things out along with playing. I like to watch vids on youtube also. Kinda gets me hyped up.

imo thats when you have the biggest reason to enter tournaments
learning tech skill and everything else required for the game really goes hand in hand. if you never play the game for real you wont fully learn how to apply it anyway
