-------------------------------------

Here's some FAQ's for you, please read before asking a question:

Q: When will I know of the tourney times?
A: The tournaments will be posted AT the convention, due to many unknown factors with scheduling conflicts.

Q: Where can I sign up for the tournaments?
A: At the convention, the game room main desk will have the sign-ups.

Q: Can I sign up for more than one tournament?
A: Yes. If they are being run at overlapping times, sign up at your own risk.

Q: What's the Naruto games?
A: The more popular ones are the PS2 one (Narutimate Hero aka Ultimate Hero) and Gamecube/Wii (Gekitou Ninja Taisen aka Clash of the Ninja).

Q: Is there going to be PS2 Naruto?
A: No. It was originally on the list, however we weren't confident that many players really cared for it, and we were getting to the point where there may not be time to run it.

Q: What's these "TBD" games?
A: This means there are different versions we can use, and we hope to get the latest versions out, provided it's out past at least about a month from the game's release. If a game gets released within weeks of the con, the game tends to be a bit skewed towards the players that bought the game right away, not really making a good level field for people to learn the game. That's why Smash Brothers Brawl is not on the list.

Q: What about Super Smash Brothers Brawl/SBBB/Smash Bros. on Wii?
A: See: above.

Q: What if I want to run a tournament?
A: PM or e-mail me ASAP.

Q: I didn't like the way a tourney was run last year, how can I know if it'll be run the same way this year?
A: Please communicate that with me. Post here, encourage discussion, we want to make a tournament that'll be the most fair for the majority of players. While more often than not, most tourney rules will dissatisfy some players, the only thing we can do is try to accomodate in the way that's most fair to test the skill of the players.

Q: I think this game should be on the list.
A: Post up and make suggestions. Who knows? Maybe other people will want to see it at ACen too!

Q: How can games be cancelled from this tourney list?
A: Mainly they'll be cancelled because we don't have the system, controllers, or the game. This is why we heavily rely on donations from players like you! If you would like to make a donation (consoles, controllers, games), PLEASE contact us! You may PM or e-mail me if you like.

Q: What are these "Championship" tournaments?
A: We're going to be holding a tournament encompassing several different games, one from fighting games, one for music games, and one for specific games in the gameroom. We will be posting details very soon!

Q: You should schedule around the Masquerade/Soap Bubble!
A: We are aware that attendees want to attend our headlining events. Unfortunately, this also puts major time restraints on our events, so we try our hardest to avoid scheduling the big tournaments during these events, but there's only so much we can do.

Q: What about Dragonball Budokai?
A: Unfortunately, there's a lot of deliberation about the Budokai series. Until we can get a definitive answer for the game, we will not hold an official tourney at this time.

--------------------

Due to popular demand, we'll be hosting three separate tournaments with cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place!

This is the first time ACen has held an official cash prize tourney with entry fees. The entry fee is projected right now at $5 a head per game, and whatever the end pot is, ACen will DOUBLE it!

If you're looking to warm up for this year's Evo 2k7 qualifers in Chicago (hosted by Nickel City in June), this will be a perfect opportunity!

The following games will be the official pay-to-enter tournaments:

Marvel VS Capcom 2 (arcade, consoles may be used to speed things up)
Street Fighter III : 3rd Strike (arcade, consoles may be used to speed things up)
Guilty Gear XX Slash (PS2)

If this is successful, you can expect more of these tournaments in the future with bigger cash prizes!

Conditions for entering the above tournaments:

-You must have a valid con badge to enter.

-To enter, you must (obviously) have paid the entry fee. Fees will be collected at the con, cash only.

-Entry fees are non-refundable.

-All decision by the judges/organizers are final.

-We will try to follow as close to Evo regulations as possible. However, due to the nature of the convention, some modifications to the rules may change.

-All conditions, times, rules, and prizes are subject to change without notice.

--------------------

Anime Central 2007's gaming staff presents:

The ACen X Championship series

What is it?
There are two sub categories, and one overall category:
Fighting games
Music games
Jack-of-all-trades

You will be doing 5 game mini-tournament marathons, and the entrant with the most points wins!

How will it be run?
All details are still being worked on, but it will be kind of like an decathalon without as many events. Just because you may not be good in one or two games certainly doesn't mean you don't have a chance of winning!

The ??? game has been decided, but will not be revealed until the convention!

KEEP CHECKING THIS FORUM FOR MORE UPDATES!

Why are we doing it?
We know you're competitive. We know some of you can be awesome in one game, but not necessarily the other. What if you're not confident? There's also a 5th game that will be the curveball; it can make or break your win. Don't think you'll stand a chance? Try it! You never know whose butt you can kick in a game that someone else could rock on one game, but have no clue how to play the other!

What's the prizes?
With our sponsors, we're working on a bigger prize packages than just our standard tournament prizes!

Why no entry fee for Melee? It always draws a crowd at Acen, and it's on Evo, so people need just as much practice for it as the other games.

Also, every random on the planet that plays SSBM thinks they are good enough to win, so they'd gladly throw down $5 for a tournament that they think is winnable. Seriously, suggest this to them. It'll be so successful that it's stupid.

This is pretty close by. I'll try and make it so it's not quite so easy for the Capn.

What is competition if there is nothing on the line? I'm just saying that Evo stepped up and recognized Melee as the serious tournament game that it is, maybe it's time that ACen does the same.

Oh yeah, let's get some good rules this time. Last year, Mendoza didn't make it out of the first round because it was FFA with the guy who had the most kills advancing. It worked out for me, but Mendoza should have gotten 2nd.

alcheato, i don't tihnk you can just walk in and play at the tournament. You have to pay 50 bucks for the whole convention right?

Heh, appreciate the info Scythe but I know there's cover charge. If my friends are willing to go, I'm up for it. I wouldn't be going solely for the Smash since none of my friends even play.

To get into the Gameroom that the tournament is being held in you need a convention badge - They are $50 for all three days and I believe $45 for saturday only.

Cap and Webster: I look forward to seeing you guys there. ^_^

Not to say I'll do well, but I look forward to this year. No more of that ****ty free-for-all BS.

The only thing I don't like is that the first rounds are 4 min. :-? Cutting it a little close in my opinion, but, it's not a FFA so I don't care. ^_^

I don't even know if I'm going to play in the tournament. I mean, it's like an instant win, but I'm really pissed about this whole entry fee thing. With an entry fee, acen matching the pot, and a 60/30/10 split, I would make like $800. Unfortunately, acen doesn't care about THE BIGGEST TOURNAMENT THEY HAVE!

If I do play, I'm gonna be so ****ed up that someone else might have a chance at winning. It's still unlikely, as I play very well under the influence, but it'll make things interesting.

Oh yeah, a question for dude running the tournament: Can I leave between rounds? Last year, I think they were trying to discourage me from doing so. There are so many people in the tourney, and I could make it from the game room to my room and back again before the next round starts. Is that cool?

God, that was horrid.

Webster: Whoever ****ed you over is a D-bag. That effin sucks.

I dunno who ended up winning, but I think it was "Pyrogamer". Elana took 3rd, and I got 4th. My only losses were to Pyrogamer. Effin Peach. He had a good Marth too, but I can't complain; No johns. ;)

Captain Awesome: Good match. It's a shame you couldn't stay, but I understand. The tourney didn't end til like 8-830. X_X We should just run it next year, if I'm even gonna participate.

I just wasn't in the mood for it. Playing smash is great, but I wasn't going to spend my entire saturday to win a trophy or whatever stupid prize they gave.

I would have to concur. Everything that could have gone wrong did. It took way too long, and what was setup to help make things faster either didn't help at all, or made things worse.

and yes, the guy named Pyro Gamer beat Blue Blur for the win.

Next year *will* be different.

All of this goes for Melee and Brawl '08:
-Cash-to-enter Tourny's
-2 (possibly 4) 24-man tourney's, top player from each goes to finals.
1 early friday, 1 early saturday, with finals saturday afternoon.
-No sign up, Just check-in. First come, first serve.
- Purse Money in addition to prize pack.

See you guys around.

The HDTVs had so much lag. The TVs had high def but had so much delay in each move. We need regular TVs but with good quality.
Hopefully the next tourney here won't take 10+ hours like this time.

Odin -> Doubles? Like Team? Sounds absoultely awsome. I'll be sure it gets in there. But only one question... Team Melee/Team Brawl/Both?

Black Flash -> I'm working on a tournament structure (operations, not brackets) that has a 100% chance of reducing the time 4-fold.

I sat there for 10 hours watching matches, and I didn't notice and lag between button presses and on-screen moves. Mabye some of the tv's were worse than others. ACen got all of the Tv's for free from Hyatt, so if ACen stays at Hyatt next year they will probobly have those Tv's again. If thats the case, I'll make sure theres Tube-Tv Hookups.

The TVs were the worst part. Like, I don't get what goes through people's minds by requesting HD WIDESCREEN TVS. They're good for movies, not for technical gaming like GG or smash.
Mendoza and I pretty much agreed on not even playing in the tournament. The only reason I stuck around was because if it wasn't pyro, it would have been me winning whatever the prize was. We were sad we missed out on CoK 3.
Pyro got owned. Paid money to go play laggy smash every 3 hours and win dot hack stuff. But really that's what was to be expected. Afterall, it is just an anime convention.

I didn't really notice any lag on the TVs, but Zelda is kinda laggy anyway. ::shrugs:: That tournament was hellish. I wasn't gonna enter, cuz last year there were like 300+ people and I spent hours missing con stuff because of how long things took. It's pretty expensive to pay $50 for a prizeless Smash tournament (essentially, because there's no time for other con stuff). The plan for this year seemed more promising, and yet somehow it took longer than ever! Anyway, this is a well-known complaint, and I see that remedial plans are already in the works for next year... still don't know if I'm gonna participate though.

Moving on, all of the entrants were awesome people! It was a joy to play pretty much everyone I got matched up against. When there was actually an opportunity to play a match, it was really fun. Good times, all!

I was laughing my *** off when some dude was like "you guys get away from the powerout-" And off goes everything during what was supposed to be the last match between blue and pyro to determine first place. That made my day.

Yeah, that happened.

They were in the last round of the match, and a bunch of guys laid down next to the tv. A stoutly man was about to kick the power plugs so I yelled "Hey you guys on the floor, get away from the power outlets!" ...it was too late they knocked out the power to the tv, thankfully not the gamecube too.
