"Before anyone asks any questions, I was given the opportunity to interview a Super Smash Bros. Brawl programmer just a few days ago for work. He told me a lot about the game, but I brought up the subject of what didn't quite make it but was planned. He gave me specific examples, then I asked if I could have more to release for fun. He gladly agreed. What you are about to read is interesting information of what didn't quite make it to the final Brawl. I'm posting this here to help the wait for Brawl ease up. Hope you enjoy this!
Cut Characters
I asked first about what characters were planned then didn't make it. They drafted about 300 possible newcomers to begin with, then narrowed it down to the final version. Some of the characters on the list that didn't make it past the list meaning they were considered included:
-Little Mac
-Professor Oak
-Eliwood
-Captain Syrup
-Kracko
-Waluigi
Many of them were placed in the Assist Trophy field, however, the ones below were seriously considered and programming even begun. However, they were ultimately cut for various reasons...
-King K. Rool: One of the last characters to get the axe. His moveset had been drafted "about five or six times, three of them had begun programming" before he was finally pulled. The team kept on revising him until he was ultimately given another role in the game, one they felt was more fitting.
-Blaziken: Shortly after the announcement of Brawl, the team quickly took notice that Blaziken was far and away one of the most popular Pokemon reps suggested by fans. Programming begun, but Sakurai suggested they wait and see his status after Diamond and Pearl. He noticed that Blaziken's popularity had diminished in the new generation of Pokemon and decided to cut him from the roster. Blaziken would have been "a true hand-to-hand combat character with some fire moves mixed in."
-Banjo and Kazooie: The team was planning on including the duo from the start and wanted to team up with Rare for the designing of the pair. However, complications arose with Microsoft over the rights of Banjo and Kazooie, meaning the Brawl team would have had to make a deal with Microsoft itself. Not willing to go that far for the character, the idea was scrapped.
-Claus: Claus from Mother 3 was one of the last characters to be put in the final roster until his removal. His model was done and actually inserted into the game, but all programming of his existence as a playable character was removed due to a serious flaw in design: his wings could not function well in the game. Also, the physics of one of his taunts, him taking off his mask, created further problems in programming. The team attempted to correct it but decided to cut the character from the roster.
-R.O.B.: R.O.B was one of the major contenders for Brawl's surprise character. He was probably the closest to completion other than Claus. However, his robotic physics turned out to be surprisingly hard to master and his moves were confusing. He was then re-designed for Subspace Emissary.
-Wart Wart truly never made it past the designing stage, but some models were made of him. His appearance as a playable character was later decided to be unneccessary and the team had halted designing on him for too long in favor of other characters to put him in the roster. So, he was cut from the status of playable character.
I found all these to be extremely interesting, and keep in mind that just because they aren't playable doesn't mean they aren't in the game. One of the more interesting characters that was considered was none other than Phoenix Wright from Capcom fame, but I chose not to mention him because I wasn't given specific information.
Cut Stage
There was one truly cut stage in Brawl that was indeed in the Beta, but seemed unneccesary with the inclusion of Pictochat as well.
-Mii Plaza: The stage took place on the blank plaza which would slowly fill up with Miis and then would later be overrun by Miis in a giant Parade. It was almost like a stampede and it was truly the only hazard. Dodging the Miis was essential, and sometimes your own Miis would make an appearance. It sounded interesting, so too bad it was cut.
Cut Game Components
The team had some great ideas for Brawl that were cut mostly due to time. They didn't want to cause any more delay and the game was already deep enough as it was.
-Customizeable Characters: Rumors have been circulating about customizeable Brawl characters for several months now. I was told it was at one point "in the actual game. It added a whole new layer of strategy." Each character had customizeable special moves. Each move (Standard Special, Up Special, Side Special, Down Special) had three different forms. Not only was this implimented, but two Final Smashes came with each character. Pokemon Trainer, for example, was planned to take all his Pokemon back and put in one fourth Pokemon: Arceus from Diamond and Pearl Versions. The moves were going to be unlockables earned by defeating bosses in Subspace Emissary. They were cut because it was far too time consuming to program all moves. Also, some characters, such as Ike and Zelda, had customized moves that caused the game to lock up. It was a major flaw in the system and was removed to eliminate all loose ends.
-Trophy Battle: Here is my favorite one. Trophies were given a second feature in this game: the Trophy Battle. It was a turned based game using your Miis where each trophy had one special move that could attack or defend the player. Each one could only be used once in a "set" of 50 trophies. Once you unlocked 50 trophies, the mode was unlocked. It was cut due to problems with programming each trophy.
There was definitely more that was cut, but this is all I was told in the interview. The information he gave me that is still in the game that has yet to be revealed is incredible; there are some big surprises, and I'm not just talking about characters. Expect big things."
"Okay so as you know I posted some Brawl Beta information in another topic. I'm here to say that one of the characters i previously said was cut is in fact in Brawl. Oddly enough I had accidentally viewed the article wrong and got some names mixed up. I'm not too die-hard of a Nintendo fan so don't call me on it, it's not my fault. For those of you who do not know, I work for a major gaming magazine that will release a post-Brawl article about the game and I asked about what didn't get in. I posted a separate topic about it on the boards. I also received lots of information and I'm here to deconfirm/confirm many of the major rumors/prophets.
-More than one of the "leakers" have posted nothing but true information.
-The real roster has yet to appear.
-Based on the recent Stickers leak of Lucario, Jigglypuff, and Ness, it is true that there will be no more than 5 reps per represented series.
-"Prophet" rapscouter has correctly predicted the Ditto pokeball Pokemon.
-One_Step87 has made the most correct predictions but is a fake. Some of his correct predictions include Chibi Robo and Midna Assist Trophies and Black Shadow as a boss.
-HoldenCaully is a fake.
-ChaoticImplosion is a fake.

I'll say more for those who are willing to hear."
"Some of you may remember me from two other threads where I revealed some information regarding Brawl; one described information that was cut from the game, the other de-confirmed/confirmed popular rumors. What I did in each was to direct attention away from officials, I included fake information provided by myself amidst real information. Clever, no? Anyways, now I’m going to do something everyone’s long had coming: reveal Brawl’s newcomers. My sources are explained in my previous two threads:

I don’t know much about the veterans so I’ll cast that aside, but yeah, I’m going to reveal a good number of the newcomers. There is one catch, though: I’ve included several characters that aren’t actually characters in Brawl. Some of them are Assist Trophies, some have other roles in Brawl, and some don’t even appear! It’s up to you guys to figure out/speculate which ones are the real deal. Be wary, as the ones that are in fact included may surprise you.
Mario Series: Bowser Jr., Geno, Tatanga, Paper Mario, Wart
Zelda Series: Skull Kid, Midna, Vaati, Tetra, Darunia
Metroid Series: Sylux, Dark Samus, Ridley, Space Pirate
Pokemon Series: Professor Oak, Lucario, Blaziken
Fire Emblem Series: Hector, Eliwood, Micaiah, Mia, Ephraim
Earthbound Series: Pokey, Poo, Masked Man/Claus, Flint
Starfox Series: Wolf, Krystal, General Scales, James McCloud
Other Series: Isaac, Felix, Andy, Ray 01, Black Shadow
Retro Series: Balloon Fighter, Sukapon, Mach Rider, R.O.B, Laughing Dog, Papa
Animal Crossing Series: Tom Nook, Gulliver, Animal Crosser
Keep in mind that there are some characters I have withheld just for the fun of it. It’s also possible that I’ve included series that have no more representitives. Happy guessing!"
Seems as tho he was trying to debunk some prophets himself. Lol =P
