I think the real question is if the people he played in pools even recognized him.

I say this having never watched an episode of idol in my life and recognizing that we're talking about a demographic that likewise probably doesn't watch a ton of that show. But you would think that out of the hundreds of people there SOMEONE would have noticed a semi-major celebrity competing. If nothing else I'd expect the evo people to hype it and make it a thing for exposure for their tournaments.

Cool **** regardless, but I'm surprised it flew under the radar like that.

Won 4 sets? ...mango won 4 sets in his pool. Why doesn't...hold on.

Edit: can't find him using check in tool. Does anyone just want to do the math instead of guessing?

In double elimination:
1
2
3
4
5 x2
7 x2
9 x4
13 x4
17 x8
25 x8
33 x16
49 x16
65 x32
97 x32
129 x64
193 x64
257 x128
385 x128
513 x256

So with 707(?) Melee entrants, there were 194 players at 513th place. You had to win at least two matches to be one of the 128 players tied for 257th.

I don't believe this article. First off his name isn't used in the evo brackets so he might have used an alias which is normal for celebrities. Another case if he tied for 256th like myself he needed to win 2 matches. Also no melee player has confirmed that they played him or even said they played a middle aged guy in pools. Lastly knowing a celebrity they probably don't know how to play because they don't go to local smash fest or tourneys to get better. Its really unrealistic that a person that doesn't play melee beat 2 people in pools in a game where there are no longer casual players but rather competitive players. I like Taylor Hicks. I'm sure he was at the venue but he did not compete. Maybe he won 2 matches because both of them were not at the set up at the time and he advanced twice. Likely? No not really...

Tons of casuals entered Evo. Did you not watch pools?

Still can't tell if serious, because this is borderline insane. If I had the time I'd check through the real names of every player in the pools before aliases..maybe his name was actually in there.

Haha, I actually remember this guy. I probably wouldn't have recognized him on the spot though

He was performing at the Paris during the weekend of EVO and I saw him taking pictures with fans in the casino, but it was no where near the tournament hall. I find it hard to believe as well, but the fact that I saw him in the casino still leaves that small bit of wonder in my mind.

I played at evo. I lost to Fiction and a rookie. I watched pools that entire day so I can say the general skill level was fairly high. Sure there were some noobs but these guys probably didn't lose to a guy that most likely hasn't played the game in a very long time :/
