Alternate costume unlocks in Smash 4?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place I wasn't sure if this kind of thread goes in the character discussion or general.

Anyways, I had this idea for alternate costumes, have the costumes from past games. I know characters like Kirby wouldn't look much different, but think about Link. Each game he has been different but the same.

The only problem is it would be a lot of work and Sakurai would have to add Link's arrow, Mario's cape, Jiggly's ball, etc. And add the two more taunts.

What do you guys think?

I actually somewhat of the same idea awhile back too, but with sprite versions instead.
Also Sakurai isn't working on this game thank god.


My idea for an alternate costume though, not model or sprite, is Ness in his pajamas.

You know how Wario had two different costumes in Brawl? I'd like to see unlockable costumes for other characters in that vein. Like the cowboy suit for Mario from Mario Party 2.

I'd like to see unlockable Yoshi colors too. We start with green, red, blue, yellow, light blue and pink. We could then unlock orange, brown, purple, black, white, and other colors.

Uh... yeah, he is. He's the director. He's opening the process up for more input but he's still the head honcho. The guy is video game genius. Sure he has his flaws but he's crafted some excellent games and fun characters over the years.

As we all know, in super smash brothers, we can change a character's color. But what about costumes?

Like Wario in Super Smash brothers brawl, He can pick between two costmes and differnt colors for both even. I feel like we can have this with alot of characters in the next game

Mario can have a costume were you can fight in his tanooki suit, or his bee costume from galaxy, Dr. Mario, etc. Mario can have alot of costumes

So do you think this idea should be used in the next smash? What other costumes could other characters have?

I think that every chacacter needs to start with 4 costumes: the originals and the team colors (blue,red and green), and have at least 3 unlockable costume, giving a total of 7 costumes for the chacacters. It's not to much, since most chacacters in Brawl have 6.

You're talking colors,I don't see colors unlockable but I wouldn't mind it.


I think we will have at least three costume (original,two other costumes,and maybe more),so I think we will have the original and second,and the third (or more) will be unlockables.

No more than "2" extra outfits per character is how I see this working out, with each outfit offering up to "6" palette swaps; this would add up to a maximum of "18" color slots, with "6" per alternate outfit.

Maybe I should've said that each character can have up to "2" extra outfits without utilizing DLC. Through the DLC system, bonus outfits can always be made.

Capcom knows how to do alternative costumes to their characters. I think Nintendo has more stuff to work with, and only in this thread have I seen many excellent suggestions.

Charizard should get a black color option, because a shiny charizard is black.

Luigi with the Polterguest 300 on his back wouldnt be a bad costume

I guess, but I don't think the moveset should be affected by the costume you choose to play with... If they made a small Mecha-Bowser as a seperate character, though, he would have potential for a great and unique moveset. But I highly doubt we will see him

I love how Jigglypuff and Pikachu get all dem crazy hats. In fact crazy hats in general are enough to beef up replayability for me.

I've got it! You should be able to use 'dem crazy hats you get on Find Mii for the 3DS! Slap 'em on any character! Can you imagine Link with a Cheeseburger hat? Also, if Dr. Mario is a skin for Mario, change the fireballs to pills.

Great idea for some, but I think many are getting INSANELY, RIDICULOUSLY, STUPIDLY carried away with new costumes as being new characters.

Take Dr. Mario for example; you would need an additional 4 costume changes for Dr. Mario within Mario's costumes because what if four people want to play as the Dr. Mario costume at once? Things would get too confusing.

Changing all the move sets, the announcer/crowd would be calling him Dr. Mario, different final smash and trophies (if they remain) would be pretty ridiculous. It's a whole new character so why not just give them a whole new god damn slot instead of making them mixed in with costumes?

You would win as Dr. Mario, get kills as Dr. Mario, complete solo mode as Dr. Mario but everything would be done under Mario's name.

Unlockable costume changes = great idea
Those costume changes as completely new characters = stupid idea
