I'm going to make the AKG thread now since no one else will. It'll be up in a few minutes. Actually, I'll wait until another person posts in agreement that I should start it.

Maybe you should edit the drama part out in your original post, that does nothing to invite people to our community at all (if that's what you're going for).

That's not really important information. Also, prospective members might not know, so the last thing we want them to figure out first is that we have drama.

whats the matter with you people

all this drama about what everyone else is doing to you
especially mike
the only person you gotta be concerned with is yourself
otherwise youre never gonna get yourself ahead in what youre doing
no ones out to carry you or give you the magic solution
everyones been telling me their own version of the same story
none of its right cuz youre all just angling it to sound like its supposed to be about you
its not about you
it aint right
you gotta make it right
you gotta work hard
and you gotta quit letting the wrong things get to you

anyone who wants to play this game just call me up and come play it
quit QQing on this stupid thread about boyfriends or girlfriends or whatever else your problems are

This is probably true, actually. His name could've been left out. No drama, period, Especially not directed at a specific person. Come on, dudes. Let's get our act together. Let's not point fingers and rep it up, yo.

Agreeing with Matt here. :) Not directed at any one person; it would just be nice to play smash and not have to deal with crises all the time, y'know?

Personally, I think I've been starting to improve a little. I've been trying to listen more to what y'all are saying I should do more/less/etc.

Getting better at GG too now that I've found my true main. Everyone should keep playing~

how to get tech skill

try to do this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcM8LTE1wFA
until you can get to about 6000 feet
then do it with other characters
then do target test
then practice **** like shffl dair -> shine with fox or something
???
profit!

oh and no "but i cant use the c-stick in hrc mode" johns

alternatively you could just be like the savage and just know your opponents so well you dont need tech skill

Just a heads up.

I'll try and host some smashfests at my place sometime soon. Probably not until the semester ends, but I'll see about hosting every once in a while (I've got 4 TV's & a projector fyi).

last night at my place guys!

mike you left your backpack and your melee disc

or maybe just your disc I don't know

which brings me to a point. People need to stop leaving **** at peoples houses. I have eans earphones and his wiimote. I want to know who has my melee disc. 2 weeks ago or so Mike and Jason dropped by and said "were borrowing ur melee disc" 2 weeks later i still dont have it, i hate using my piece of **** broken one so id like that back please wherever/whoever has it.

edit: apparently I'm a liberal, according to 3 idealogy surveys
whats your .... orientation?

hey guys, what does it take to be amazing?

also @kira, its great that you're improving and listening to what we say and all that. but i feel that you can also take it up a notch by watching combo videos and matches. like watching armada, or other pro peach players. you can get ideas and inspiration from them. if you see something that you like, and think its really cool, try it out the next time you play.

i guess the same advice can go for matt+

it helped me improve cuz at the end of It takes guts to be amazing, that fox lived FOREVER. also i kinda know how to DI now so my link's been living up to like 200% ("JUST DIE ALREADY!" - james, lol)

alternatively, watch caleb, jason and Ean, they are really flashy players and pull off some really cool ****.

regardless there are somethings that you just have to learn on your own such as lcanceling. which im still having problems with... w/e, ill get it down eventually

this is also a habit i notice in a few people, including myself and i need to work on. adrian, kira, and matt+. lets say u and other player are at 130% and the other guy gets the 1st killing blow on you, and you come back and ALL you focus on is getting that kill on him. its bad because the other person is going to be playing ALOT more defensively and you're less likely to be able to get ur normal killing move on him. instead, take ur time, try and get him in a combo and end it with a killing blow rather than just spam it for the next 2 mins and constantly get punished for it. ur already a stock behind and thats the last thing you need. something i notice and i need to work on it myself. anyways, moral of the story, patience is key.

for those who've been wondering and like wanna learn edge teching. it helps to see things in frames, and know your opponents characters, theres only so many things he can do to edgeguard you, most poeple go for spikes and those are really easy to predict. different moves have different frame window oppurtunity to tech. IE its easier to tech falcon's Dair than it is to tech roy's NeutralB lurking. in addition theres 2 different options that you can do while teching. theres neutral where u just tech off the wall and drop, or if you DI towards the stage while doing so you tech and do a wall hop. i find it easiest to tech with falco and fox, but thats just me, i see jason and caleb tech some cool stuff with CF as well. basically anything that hits the edge in order to prevent you from grabbing it is techable. however, you have to beware of certain moves IE fox/falco's Dsmash which hits just slightly further than the stage and is untechable, so even if you try and sweet spot it, it will still hit you. however thats the only move i know of thatdoes it. on that note, sweet spotting is something you should always try and go for if you cannot make it back directly on the stage IMO.

while on the subject of recovering, i need to learn how to avoid getting gimped while falco, DI and teching can only get me so far. what more is there i can do to improve my recovery game with falco? and of course ill also take advise on link recovery too... although i think i got his down, with link i can do so much, bomb trick, chain, regular, i can throw gadgets to keep my opponent clear...

He did. It was me.

Also, who's playing today? Arthur? I work tomorrow and Ean's dropping by. him and Mike are the only people allowed at my place...

Why can't I come over?
=(
You don't wanna know.

Also, Kira, as the melee tourney goes, I'd like to know the EXACT rules that we're playing under. I'd like it all covered, and I want to see a banned techs list to prevent stalling and such. I'm talking exact limitations.

Melee:

•4 stock
•2/3 sets
•3/5 semifinals+finals
•8 minute time limit
•Items off
•Ties broken by lives, then %
•Double Blind character pick can be called at anytime.
•Stage Knock Out: Each person may choose one stage to be disabled for the entire set, it must be chosen at the beginning of the set, after initial characters are chosen.
•Advanced Slob Picks: Loser may choose the next stage or select to go random. The winner may then change their character, followed by the loser.
•Bring your own controller
•Controller Mods, Glitches (IC Freeze Glitch, Mewtwo Soul Stunner, etc), and tactics used to stall a match (wall-bombing, rising pound), are banned.
•Team Attack will be ON
•Life stealing allowed
Neutrals 1v1:

FD
Yoshis
Dreamland
Battlefield
Fountain of Dreams

Neutrals 2v2:

FD
Yoshis
Dreamland
Battlefield
Pokemon Stadium

Counterpicks 1v1:

Kongo Jungle
Brinstar
Rainbow Cruise
Pokemon Stadium

Counterpicks 2v2:

Kongo Jungle
Brinstar
Rainbow Cruise

Basis of Decision:

The Melee back room did a stage vote on both neutrals and Counterpicks. Both of the rulesets I, as the main TO, voted for are the ones that have the most support. I feel like this is a compromise between everyone, and I'm sorry to those who aren't happy because I can't please everyone. I want the results of this tournament to be as accurate as possible, so these are the legal stages.

* Pokemon Stadium: This stage is no longer a neutral for singles. The transformations in and of themselves would often result in entirely banned stages due to walls and such. Because the stage changes however, the stage is not banned, but I do not feel is neutral. However, in teams if a player is stuck in an infinite his teammate has the opportunity to help, which is why it is indeed neutral in teams (and to make a 5th stage since fountain isn't and this is the next best stage). The camera angles on the ledges are funky, and it's widely known space animals run wild on the stage.

Stage Striking will be in effect for the first match of the set. The player with the lower port will get to choose the first strike. Loser choses ban before next match.

One ban per player per set. To be chosen after loss.

Modified DSR: You cannot go back to the last stage you won in a set, unless agreed upon by the other player.

The player choice clause!:: If both players agree to a rule outside of my ruleset, feel free to play by that. If one player wants to counterpick Mute City and the other player is fine with that because they think it's a fair stage, then that is more than fine. However in the event the two players disagree, house rules stand.

Any questions please contact me via PM or AIM, but as of now the stage discussion here is OVER, and so please do not spam the thread with that. I'm trying to compromise best for everyone.
I copied these from the pound 4 rule set, and I'm pretty sure that this is going to be as detailed of an answer you'll get, apart from the stage selection which might or might not be different.

There is no list of banned techniques, just stalling in general is banned. Such as using jigglypuff's edge-canceled sing attack to infinitely keep an opponent locked down.

I mean really, most of the stuff is just common sense.

stages;
-First stage must be a random neutral, set between final destination, battlefield, fountain of dreams (singles only), dream land, pokemon stadium, & yoshi’s story. A specific neutral may be chosen first round if both players agree to it.
-Loser counterpicks next stage. Allowed counterpicks include any of the above neutrals PLUS brinstar, corneria, green greens, jungle japes, kongo jungle, pokefloats, & rainbow cruise.
-Winner may choose one stage to ban for counterpick.
from the all is brawl thing for the tournament

my bad i forgot that it had the stage list

this means
Neutrals
FD
Battlefield
FoD (Singles only)
Dream Land 64
Pokemon Stadium
Yoshi's Story

Counterpicks
Brinstar
Corneria
Green Greens
Jungle Japes
Kongo Jungle
Pokefloats
Rainbow Cruise

all the neutral stages may be counter-picked as well.

So, what constitutes stalling, then? 10 sing-techs? 20? 508723490?

KDJ, Captain Jack, I think M2K played Sheik a few times.

Sing stalling wouldn't be used just a few times and then stopped, it would be used once you were ahead enough to stall out the match completely. That's usually what stalling is all about, but really, it's an Alaskan melee tournament. Who is going to stall out a match using stuff like that?

I use it in friendlies to screw with people and play around. I don't think I've ever, friendly or tournament match, actually stalled out the timer in an attempt to win.
