This whole thread is crap. It needs to be removed or moved.
There were a good few facts here though:

1: Competitive Smash is not Casual Smash
2: They enjoy the games on different levels of enjoyability
3: Don't flame the opposite group.

I'm a competitive hardcore smasher, but casual smashers are still fun to play with how they like to play. Honestly I don't know why this thread is still here. KirbyKid wrote a wonderful thread on this issue.
Can't we all just get along?

Where's your tourney Dylan? I'll participate. Lol.
as it stands, the tourney doesnt exist.

if it did. uh, I have a TV and a gamecube controller, Id need more tvs and cubes, in either my basement, or somewhere else.

But if you live in montreal the bi-weeklies are near snowdon metro at 4 oclock pm till 11pm, smashfest. 8$ to get in at 4, 5$ at 7.

I didn't say they were idiots, either. I feel no need to insult casual players. I just said that the way they play is stupid. Their strategies.
Thanks. I feel so much better now.

Maybe the OP did have somewhat of a point. My way of playing just got insulted, and not one person on these boards have played me yet.

Ow, my ego.

youre right retrorhythm, people think that since they use advanced techs, some of which weren't even meant to be in the game, that theyre so good, pretty dumb.

Whatever, you have a desire to compete then.

Were you truly casual you wouldnt be all over the place making threads and trying to back your way of play up.

Id really like to smash and relax with you man, anyone would you seem like a chill guy. Smash isnt serious business but until you go out and get experience vs other good players theres jack all you can do to beat people who have, or who ARE the good players.

Geez... not this stuff again.

Look, I'm gonna break it all down. We've all heard the "play the way you like the most" thing, and that is very true. The problem comes when casual players demand their way of play being equal to or on par with competitive play, which it just isn't. If casual players want to gain respect from the competitive guys you should come to terms with that. That and not to get riled up by a few idiots on the boards that shut you down for not going competitive, cause they aren't pros.

99% of the pros don't even post much, and when they do they don't use it to bash casual players.

Exactly. Stating otherwise would just be ********.

Oh wait, did I just use that word? I did! Shock and Horror! Why? Because I'm a member of a society that is capable of change. And, as we are capable of such change, we have altered the meaning of that word to mean something is dumb or stupid. Like how we altered the word "*****" to mean a girl who is incredibly whiny. But when I call some chick a *****, I'm not making fun of dogs, am I? Get out of your little politically correct bubble, stop getting all your political news from the Daily Show, and wake up to the world around you. If I call something gay, I'm not making fun of homosexuals. Our language evolves. You can either evolve with it, or you can stumble through life blindfolded, desperately trying to convince yourself that you have a valid point.

Back on topic!

As a casual player who intends on remaining that way, but has nothing but respect for advanced techers, I think I'm right in saying that most people think like me. The people who don't make just as much sense as getting mad about Allen Iverson being able crossover faster than you can blink, or Tiger Woods intentionally putting spin on the ball. And hey, both those points of view are ********.

Ok, i understand what u mean /sarcasm. Anyways, ATs dont make someone good, but generally, if someone uses ATs, they are good at other things too. DOnt give us the "they werent meant to be in the game"

I'm not a casual and I'm even tired of the effing word "scrub" now... this thread killed it. If some guy calls you anything that's an insult... justified or not.. they aren't worth a response.

*takes out a sledge hammer and goes to execute the thread, but because the ESRB is little pricks and want to censor everything even remotely gory, the scene gets a red smeared filter so you can't see WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON.*

Yes, I played Manhunt 2, and yes, never have I been so disgusted by the ESRB *****ing in all my life...

****ers killed the game. :urg:

I'm a competitive player, and have no problem with casuals playing the way they want, It's all good. But when I'm playing with casuals and not taking the game seriously, that's when they become extremely cocky. When you lose to them you'll never hear the end of it. They'll continue to provoke me even when I'm not playing. Then that's when I've had enough, then break my restraints and go all out on these *****es. Then when I four stock them after about 8-10 times they'll start saying things like I'm cheating, or I'm using glitches, or that I'm just being cheap. I truely hate that. Not all of them do that, but a good number of them do. Most causals just play the **** game so wildly without any thought and think there gods because they do.

This is how I'll categorize them.

Newbs = People just joining the game and trying to understand it. Also Means that these kinds of people suck at the game and don't try to improve.

Noobs/scrubs = People who don't play the game intelligently. Just play the game wildly and think they are the greatest because they are cheap. Also like to complain a lot when they lose, or see someone using advanced techs.

Veterans/Casuals = People who have played the game since it came out or have been following the series since the start. These people can choose whether they want to better themselves or stay casual. For those who stay casual they can play a match with some thought and strategy to gain the upper hand. They can also analyze their opponent and get better by doing so. For those that are willing to get better, they either come here:chuckle: and practice AT, or look for advice to help better their game and pratice really hard.

Competitive players = People that enjoy the game a lot, and love competition. They love playing other people and playing strong players. They use advanced techs, practice them, and learns them. They love to better themselves in the game in every way. Some practice in hopes of becoming Pro one day. Others practice just to stay at their competitive level. They also love heading to tournaments and testing their skills against better opponents to see where they stand in power, or go to try and win prize money. Some also go because it's a good way to better themselves by playing a lot of strong opponents

Pro/Elites = People who are very good at the game. They practice a lot to stay at the top of their game. They always go to tourneys to win prize money and meet other Smashers or Pro Smashers. These people are known throughout the country or world, and are feared because of their power. Some are often challenged a lot by people who want to play them or to see if they can actually beat a pro. To sum this up Pros are basically Really good at the game, and barely loses to anyone lesser than them.

This is how I categorize everyone. From newb to pro. This how I see them. If you see them in a different way that good for you.

I hope this can stop everyone from bashing on each other.

this thread killed it. If some guy calls you anything that's an insult... justified or not.. they aren't worth a response.
If something is justified it's not entirely an insult. When someone fits the criteria of a definition, simply referring to them as such is not wrong. If someone in a thread truly fits the definition of a scrub, then there is nothing wrong with it. There is significant difference between a casual player and a scrub, but people tend to use them interchangeably. That's where the problem lies.

A casual player is simply someone who plays the game casually. A scrub is someone who is close minded and uses self imposed rules and imposes those rules upon others. They cause a ruckus and get on their soapboxes and proclaim how wrong the competitive community is when they have never tried to understand the thing they are arguing against.

Honestly, I truly find the scrub offensive. Anyone that is ignorant yet judgmental is extremely offensive to me (and is to most people). I have the right to call that person a scrub. The problem is the scrub is *usually* a casual player (there are competitive scrubs, a lot of them), and will pull out the elitist card and claim that I'm looking down on him because he is a casual player and then makes a big deal out of his own stupidity. So then it becomes a big mess.

The one thing both sides of the fence need, casual and competitive, is to conduct themselves with a sense of maturity.

Pros aren't scrubs. By definition a pro cannot be a scrub. Sure, a pro might be biased against a few things, but if they were truly a scrub there would be no way they would make it to pro status.

That's another problem, people are throwing out pro and scrub way too much. There are so few actual pros here, yet somehow "pros" get put into the same category as some competitive player with loud opinions that bash people who have differing views. It's really silly for both sides to assume so much about the opposing side.

Scrubs can just be people who wish to limit the game by removing tactics because they are "cheap" or "not fun" regardless of results of said tactic not being game breaking. Not many pros do this but veterans and competitive players I have seen show these kind of traits in this community, especially over the topic of wobbling.

especially over the topic of wobbling.
Holy Crepe! How could I have forgotten about that! Yeah, that is very dumb... I did convince some dead-set anti-wobbling peepz that it wasn't broken at this Georgia tournament I went too; however, they still would opt to ban it simply for their strong distaste for it. It makes me sad that some people are so adamantly oppose wobbling even though Ice Climbers are still not the best character in the game WITH wobbling.

Yeah, that's a small rant on that, but you are right, some pros are scrubs in that aspect.
