A petition for a beloved member of our community

A travesty has befallen the PacWest (and a few other) boards recently. It was the cruel, unfair mutilation of someone we all love very much: choknater.

He was a hardworking man with a simple, noble goal: to increase his post count. He worked hard to achieve this goal, and he took pride in it. He became known for it -- even cherished for it. However, one of the members of the forum staff made it so that his posts ran in reverse to his post count, and his post count was torn asunder into a meager 5,636.

I come to you at this time to start a petition to try to help choknater. To help our comrade, but more importantly, our friend.

if i watch a movie on my laptop i pause to check smashboards.

my bad. we just like to do different things.

i still really like this forum. the mods will do whatever they want. i've been lurking the back room for years now, so i know how the supposed "vet" community is like. they're probably not gonna change, no reform, nothing. especially since JV took over

if anything, this is a big joke. i know for sure some of them don't like the way i post, which i understand. i don't know whether the joke will stop, ease up, or continue forever out of a grudge. who knows.

if they wanted to stop my spamming, they already effectively did so by reversing my post counter. i don't understand the reduction though. oh well

Sometimes, you guys fail to see the big picture.

Choknater is the biggest spammer on the boards: you know it, I know, everyone knows it. Hell, he boasts about it himself. Not just a few posts but literally thousands of spam posts. Just look at his infractions. And most of those were being lenient to posts like this. We told him to stop or he'll get punished numerous times, and he continued.

So, the choice was either permaban or to make the numbers beside his name count down instead of up as a last ditch attempt to stop spamming (as that was the only reason he did). It appears to be successful. So go ahead and call us power hungry for finding ways to not permaban a beloved member of your community.

That said this thread goes against SWF rules of having a thread about a user.

Correct. I'm not sure exactly what was deleted of his, but I'd wager it was all of those.

He had been given a large amounts of warnings and infractions, didn't learn not to spam, so we thought rather than just ban his account, we'd still let him post, and just remove his desire to spam.

EDIT: Oh, and to whoever asked, the postcount would stop when it hits 0. No negative postcount be possible.

Hey guys, you know what happens when a post count obsessed spammer's post count starts reversing?

He's forced to think before he posts. And, you know, decide if what he's writing down is actually worth posting.

The things he rarely does and yet any respectable member should do.


Gee. What a travesty.

Large post counts are respected on members like McFox and Crimson King because they didn't get there by headbutting the keyboard and pressing "Post Quick Reply". People need to learn a lesson in the triviality of post count, and there's no better way than this.
